On 9 July, the Soviets managed to create a bridgehead in the VKT Line at Vuosalmi. This was reinforced the following night with several divisions supported by armor. Finnish HQ realized the seriousness of the situation and ordered Maj. Gen. Lagus' armored divisions to the front with orders to eliminate the bridgehead. After several bloody skirmishes, it was evident that the bridgehead contained many more Soviets than the Finns had realized, so they changed their strategy to one of containment. The expected Russian breakout came on 12 July, led by the experienced 92nd Infantry Division, supported by armor.
with a Russian balance with one 7-0 one 458 and one SU152 more.

The Russians were given an extra 7-0 and 458 for turn 1 OB. Still seems very pro-Finnish.

The scenario is pretty unbalanced in favor of the finnish, the russian player has a difficult puzzle to resolve in order to get to those backyard houses, and the scenario is quite static for the finnish player.

Awesome game that came right down to the last MPh. The Finnish crew held off a swarm of Russians all by their lonesome, topping it off with a melee tying up a precious squad and leader at the end. Russians broke a key Finnish squad in the west during the previous DFPh which guaranteed them at least four squads reaching the goal line, but this same squad rallied right back to be a thorn in the following Russian RPh. This forced the Russians to use one of their remaining three tanks to VBM freeze him, which left the last two no choice but to head for the exit. This meant one squad had to run the gauntlet. Thankfully for them they had two different squads, both in position with leaders, that could reach it to safety. A fortuitously burning building in S4 left the Finns with a crappy shot to try and stop them, and the first of the two made it without a hitch.

My opponent tried for an easterly goal line push, which I thought might stand a chance, but his two tanks overshot his infantry and left them exposed to a PF shot, which blazed one up. When the other bogged in the woods things were not looking good for the Russians. Meanwhile the attack in the west got fairly ripped to shreds. When the eastern tank eventually mired on Turn 5 the Russians called it a day as there was no mathematical chance of reaching the VP zone, and no reasonable chance of taking the buildings.

Fins had a screen in centre woods and all dummys were used to hide the location of the stugs...
Russians pushed hard straight into the middle woods.. a few mmc broke but they caught 2 finish mmc in the ensuring melees, also locating a HIP fin HMG and ldr with faust designated... the surviving fins fell back into the first wooden building just outside woods and moved all forces from the flank to help in the centre...
Russians switched to a hard push on the left flank and this went all the way into the village itself.. but then a critical hit with AP ammo from a stuf took out a moving 152mm at the wrong time and the IS2 went down to a shreck shot... leaving the Russians just short of taking the final building to win.. grainfields ablaze, burning buldings.... both forces down to 2 or 3 MMC... great game!

We gave the Soviets the balance. Tough game ass he broke through on the right and I had to scramble to stop Dave achieving the unit 'exit' VC. In the end he couldn't more his second tank far enough into my backfield and I was able to swarm it successfully.

My Round 2 in Saint Louis: 174 LAGUS ASSAULT GUNS; Larry Zoet and I picked this to play because it was from HP. Based on ROAR, we gave the Russians the balance and diced for sides. I received the attacking Russians. I could not come up with a good plan. Larry made the right Russian attack look attractive, but suspecting HIP stuff, I attacked up the middle with a lot of armoured assault on turn 1. After one turn I felt bottled up, so I pushed up the right flank with tanks anyway and the turn 2 reinforcements. My tanks found the HIP surprises that I suspected. Larry had two HIP HS on or near that road with designated PF. BOTH MISSED THEIR TARGETS! They had needed 8 or less. Larry shifted the tanks, the PSK and some infantry to block that area. My troops crept up the road and the area left of the road. Eventually, I took out 1 Sturmi in CC with some good luck saving them from being shot up. That set up the IS-2 to go after the second Sturmi. Its shot did not hurt the adjacent IS-2 and the return shot destroyed the second Sturmi. Coupled with other losses, Larry conceded on Russian turn 5. It was more or less a dicing.
