Overview:
Although the airborne portion of the “Market-Garden” Operation centered around the seizure of vital bridges, heavy fighting also occurred over control of the highway leading to the bridges as well. While parts of the 82nd Airborne fought to gain control of the bridges at Nijmegen, other elements fought for control of the Kleve-Nijmegen highway. One of the major objectives in the control of this road was Hill 75.9, better known as “Devil’s Hill”. Even though German security troops operating in this area were few in number, when concentrated on the defense of a natural strongpoint, these troops put up strong resistance. Such was the case when Company A of the 508th Parachute Regiment moved out to take Devil’s Hill.Attacker: American (Company A, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division)

2023-03-01 | (D) Grant Hewitt | vs | Michael Hastrup Leth | American win | I realised in turn 2 that I hadn't set up the HIP foxholes in the allowable locations specified in the scenario card, but we continued anyway, for fun.
2021-12-25 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Jeff Wright | German win | The Americans moved without smoke cover which cost them. The German MGs rolled low and kept rate breaking and eliminating the attackers. The Americans continued to press. Mid-game the Americans were able to break and clear the Germans from all the foxholes, but were too far away to capitalize on the success. German reinforcements cycled back into the fortifications stalling the American advance leading to an eventual German victory.
2021-10-29 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Chris Hofland | German win | The Americans made good progress initially despite some tactical errors. Mid game two foxholes had been captured, but the third was well defended. On Turns 5 and 6 the Americans failed smoke attempts preventing them from being able to advance under cover. The German attacks slowly whittled down the American forces when, on German Turn 6, the Americans were left with only 2 Good Order MMCs and no viable path to the last foxhole.
2021-10-09 | (D) Will Willow | vs | D. Pulhamus | German win | Total dicing of the Americans led to a turn 4 concession. No fun in that. Would play it again though.
2021-09-17 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | Craig Renier | American win | Americans had an effective assault slowly and surely eliminating the German defense. The Americans were able to get behind the hill taking out the option of a reverse slope defense.
2021-09-17 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Dave Mareske | American win | A weak initial setup gave the Americans an opportunity to neutralize the German left flank on the German's first turn. With the left flank open, the Americans quickly maneuvered around and up the hill. The assault on the right flank was slower but effective. German reinforcements were able to counter attack and retake a foxhole, but the gains were short lived after a 2KIA against a German MMC and 8-1 SMC.
2021-08-18 | (A) Dan Best | vs | Kermit Mullins | German win
2021-08-18 | (D) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | German win | I kept my Germans in a reverse slope defense and Dan's Americans aggressively attacked. I managed to get multiple breaks and some KIA's as Dan's boys came into contact. My ARTY would get two critical hits including one on his 9-2 with 2 x 7-4-7's with both MMG's. I snaked the effects DR for a 5 KIA. It was pretty much over at that point. The Americans were out of gas and all of the German reinforcements were on the field and occupying the foxholes.
2021-06-30 | (A) Martí Cabré | vs | Danny Peeters | German win | I could advance well on two flanks but then got two hard hits: a sniper killed my 9-2 leading my death star, which broke (the same sniper would hit two more times the same flank), and on the other side the cannon got several hits with rate, including a CH. I lost half my men on T3. I kept advancing and got adjacent to two of the foxholes, and killed 2.5 German squads but all the reinforcements to to the hill and it was impossible to reach the FH on open ground, so I conceded.
2021-03-05 | (A) Eric Partizan Eric | vs | American win
2019-09-29 | (D) Vic Lauterbach | vs | JM | German win (VASL Log) | Played with VASL - interesting small scrap with OBA on both sides - German AFVs were the deciding factor.
2019-08-24 | (D) Vic Lauterbach | vs | John Richert | American win | Played at Dayton ASL club gathering - no notes kept except result - recall US firepower and bazookas being decisive
2019-07-07 | (A) Tom Abromaitis | vs | German win
2018-03-20 | (D) B-E Karlsson | vs | American | German win
2017-12-01 | (D) Gordon Jupp | vs | Simon Church | German win | Difficult for the US, especially with the German HMG getting multiple rate tears....all over by T4...
2017-11-01 | (D) Juan Garrido | vs | Solo | German win
2017-02-06 | (D) Simon Staniforth | vs | German win
2016-12-30 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Phil Buczkowski | German win | If the Americans don't get situated on the hill before the German reinforcements arrive I don't think they stand much of a chance. The gun never even had to show its face. |
