The Big Red One had been working its way into Aachen for a month. Two battalions of the 26th Infantry Regiment entered the city proper on 13 October and began grinding their way through the heart of the city. Colonel Wilck, commander of Volksgrenadier Division 246, had been put in charge of Aachen’s defense and established his command post in the Hotel Quallenhof outside Farwick Park. In response to his frantic, repeated calls for help, reinforcements in the form of SS-Bataillon Rink arrived at the hotel on 15 October, where they were quickly engaged along with Wilck’s Grenadier-Regiment 404 and some assault guns in an effort to break out against the encircling Americans. Although the counterattack pushed the Americans back, it failed to break through, whereupon Colonel Wilck and his staff left the park, the hotel, and the nearby Kurhaus to the combat troops and set up a new command post in an air raid bunker not far away.

Dawn +1 LV hindrance, all hexes of bldg jC1 are Fortified.
Hard fought battle made harder by the Dawn LV hindrance. Dan's Germans massed two Kill stacks that just devastated the Americans. I broke early and often and by Turn 5, I had lost my Sherman, 4 squads and 7 buildings. With only five unbroken squads left, I gave the concession for a German victory.

A victory narrowly won by the Americans. Best to hold a few U.S. squads in reserve to re-read occupy any buildings which the Germans are driven out of. The lone Sherman is very useful as a mobile pillbox... Although the close quarters make it a challenge to keep the tank out of Panzerfaust range.

Right down to the last CC, a really close intense battle that makes the most of the close in DASL style.

Got my SS in a tough spot and lost two squads as prisoners. Fought them free later but had lost momentum and let an american infiltrate to recapture previously taken buildings (ASL cardinal sin...) which further dispersed my effort. Used smoke and dash as much as possible so kept losses in the streets ok but got locked into one too many CCs that wouldn't end.
Joy moment: toasted the sherman with the 'schreck.
Great to be on deluxe hexes, no stack mishaps.

Winter Offensive 2018. I played as the attacking SS against Jamey's elite Americans. Despite the +1 LV Hindrance I took more casualties than I should have simply getting to the first row of buildings so that by the end of Turn 2 it wasn't looking good for me. Luck turned my way on Turn 3, as I managed to get some good fire attacks and have some luck making smoke and passing some key MCs, getting a hero and two fanatic squads from battle hardening. I cleared three of six buildings I needed for victory and got a toehold in the remaining three across the street by the end of Turn 4. Even so, casualties were high and, in a bad sign, both of my fanatic squads broke on NMCs and failed to rally in the next RPh, making them unavailable at a key time. He then rolled up his tank and opened fire at one of my squads which had gotten across the street. Although his first shot hit and I passed the MC, his second (rate) shot was a CH, resulting in a KIA and turning the building into rubble. The CC I had next door ended badly he fired on the building and broke my 338 HS on another 1MC. At that point I no longer had enough forces left to mount another effective try, as I had taken too many casualties in CC, getting across the street and still offline due to MCs or Rallys which I "should have" passed. Game over by the end of US Turn 5 with an American win. Tough scenario on the attacker, IMO. The German player needs to be very good, or very lucky -- or both -- to pull of a win.
Note that this scenario isn't in ROAR at this writing, so the W/L ratio is for a different scenario.

Great game that came to the end. A key Defensive Fire attack (IFT 6+3) was enough to inflict a NMC on a stack of SS, and they all broke. Took 2 turns for them to return. It was enough to block me.
Great match!

The Americans took some heavy casualties in the initial SS push but the LV hindrance really came to help out after turn 2. The SS quickly advanced on the American left but were drawn into CC in the center and the Americans held out through 3 CC phases before succumbing but that sapped more of the SS strength and delayed them. The left was supported by the tank keeping the American loss to 2 buildings.
On the right, the Americans held firm and were able to keep a couple German squads DM and hold out.
Overall a good scenario and i think the Germans really need to make heavy use of smoke and movement. That LV hindrance gives a lot of +4 shot possibilities.
