Death Solves All Problems rangercote
Cibik's Ridge	I put many MGs and good leaders up front to ambush the columns. Got 6 CVP in the first Japanese MPh and so had a third of the needed CVP. But the Japanese keep coming, and the Americans have to fall back to and up the hill while trying to extract CVP from the Japanese every turn. I was at 19 of 21 CVP needed as we started Turn 8. The Japanese needed one more hex, but even if they took it, I was going to extract at least two more CVP, so we called it. Great scenario.	ubertripp
Suxy Beasts	There are very limited options for the German attack. The light woods mean that concealment is almost impossible. The PFZ make it easy for the French to fire on the Germans as they approach. The Germans might have a chance to win on CVP if the StuGs keep their AP.	mtrodgers99
Fausts At Wethen	Doug found a flaw in this scenario by withdrawing and leaving the map without the US could trap a MMC for interrogation. A very smart analysis and move. Maybe this scenario is broken. (VASL Log)	Bongiovanni

Stand Fast the Guards	British MMG and 4-5-8 with 9-2 leader almost single-handedly swept the Germans from the hill during the last two turns	slunts

The Akrotiri Peninsula	Germans lost 4 gliders on the descent with 2 x 8-3-8's KIA'd, 2 x 5-4-8's KIA'd and an 8-1 KIA'd. British successfully held all guns.	grumblejones
Black Devils of Bure	Gave Germans balance which wasnt alot of help. I took the PIATs and hero. I set up heavy on my left. Attack went the long way around on my right. We got heavy snow in turn 2. Right flank fell back and delayed long enough that it became impossible for the Germans to get enough building hexes. ASLOK XL	nebel
Rail War	Definitely a fun scenario. Opponent and I thought it was hard on Russian to get all the VP needed. His FT got 5-6 shots with several K/ results but only 1 ammo car.	nebel

Red Lightning	Lost because a German half-squad was locked in Melee but not broken. Played my best and hosed by the victory conditions. Taking 19 buildings should have been enough.	grumblejones
Casualties Cooks and Corpsmen	Super exiting game, both sides get to attack and defend. Went to last possible CC where Japanese had to roll 6 to eliminate Marines from last VC hex, or survive the marine attack back for which marines needed 10 or less. Cannot be tighter than that.	asloser

Fausts At Wethen	Friday Night Fight Came down a last turn close combat with my Americans needing a 7 or less on a 2-1 with -1 leader mod, rolled 9. That attached log file starts mid way through the German Prep Fire. (VASL Log)	Paul Legg
The Beasts Have Arrived	Defense was mostly back in the village limiting my casualties early. Looked good for me at first. I drove a Tiger iinto his HIP ATG hex in the village. In DFire opponent rolled low got APCR and rat and killed that Tiger and another one adjacent that had moved earlier. His DFire pinned or broke all my squads on german right. Then in his prep he broke the rest of those 5 squads on consecutive shots to allow him to swing a leader around and kill everyone for FTR. Very fun scenario but Germans need a boost.	nebel
Lytle Too Much sparkyxc9
Grande Ferme de Meez	ASLOK	jrwusmc
At the Point	Was able to rush on his left flank. Got onto frozen river (we played ice was active per D3.722) was able to successfully get up the far bank and exit 4 HT with squads in turn 3. Entertaining puzzle could have gone either way. ASLOK XL	nebel
The Red House	Very close game.	cscottk
Guderian's Foxes	Played the Russian very aggressively and suffered heavy losses through three turns and then dice and Russian luck started to crack the German defense on the right. The T-34's helped roll up the remaining resistance and then the Cavalry rode in and right to a victory location. Together with the T-34's the cavalry secured the second victory location for the win.	grumblejones
Paper Army	This is a rough scenario for both sides. The Italians need to simply make a run for it using at least three leader stacks and going CX whenever they can. Italians can't really afford to do much else with those units or they won't make it across the board. The only thing the Italians can reasonably expect to do is leave a "harassing force" behind in the woods to delay the Greeks as much as possible. The variable is the flanking force of Greeks. If they come in on Turn 2 (which they did for us), then the Italians will have to deal with them... at least in part if Italians split their forces. If the flanking force comes on later, then perhaps a bulk of the Italians can reach the tree line near the west side of the board before and set up a defense. (VASL Log)	toddgrx

Gavin Take	Germans ran 1.5 squads and a leader back to the bridge and the exit hex. Gavin and the 10-2 led some squads across the middle from the town, behind the bocage line to flank the single stone building on the German left. They fired on the blocking units, eliminating the squad and HS but only wounding the leader who was still in the exit hex. Final turn rush: Americans artfully used infantry smoke to obscure the 9-1 directed three squads, 2 MMG, and LMG on level 1 of the creamery, and then made a mad dash with Gavin and 747. They had "just" enough MF to go into the wounded leader's hex for SMC Overrun and then advance off, but the 24 up 1 DFF shot resulted in a morale check that Gavin just passed but pinned. Squad could not move far enough (CX'd the previous turn) to do the overrun. German victory from a pin result. Can't get much closer than that. Steve felt that the Americans did not stand a chance for most of the game, but he made it very, very close at the end.	pensatl1962

The Eastern Gate	First VASL experience. Very bloody contest.	grumblejones
Soon to be Dead	Took an extra squad in balance which was erased on two shots in the first turn. Attack on the south went well. on the west I was able to hook around and reach the northern edge of the village. A couple of his Shermans were absolute monsters and I believe I lost 6-7 squads to 2 tanks despite being in terrain and/or smoke. No other way past him as he was able to take out both JgPz. Just a little short. Good interesting scenario but it takes a while to get going with pregame rubble and debris. ASLOK XL	nebel

Broich Bash	The US attack came from the long board edge, mostly in the NW corner. I had a 9-1/HMG/247 in a second level and was able to take a couple of lucky shots. I think this made the US a bit hesitant. Said MG next also got a few shots in as the US emerged from the woods around 24H10. The US only tried for WP once (with a MTR) and failed. They didn't try for SMOKE again (save a few infantry smoke grenades). I was fortunate to keep a coherent defence. In the end, the US didn't come close to gaining enough points. It's an interesting scenario, to be sure, and one I would play again. A lot depends upon how the German HMG in the second level (is there really another place for it) fares, and how successful the US is at getting SMOKE. They have WP7 with a MTR and two M24. The M24 also have s5 and sM, and that coveted smoke number of 3 on their squads. If the HMG goes on a tear (like in our match), it will be very tough on the US.	Indy Lagu

Sidi Omar	Fun, but not necessarily good. I think scenario could do with a little tweaking to make it exciting for both sides. But, as it stands, the British have to bet on an entire first turn of being shot at, dropping off the artillery leader, and effectively using as much smoke as possible. Without doing this, you may find yourself victim to the numerous, fast, Italian guns. Even though they don't have the best performance, ROF 3 makes it likely that they will hit you often enough to knock out your tanks. In my case, the Italians got incredibly lucky, knocking out about 6 tanks by the end of Game Turn 1 and outright killing the leader with the radio. I didn't even bother with Air Support as by the time they were relevant, the Brits had exhausted most of their forces. Make the artillery mandatory turn 1 from an offboard observer, change the air support to 1 plane automatically on turn 4, and I think the scenario is at least a little more fun for both sides.	Jobbo_Fett
Next Stop Sidi Omar	Fun, but not necessarily good. I think scenario could do with a little tweaking to make it exciting for both sides. Priority Target	The Germans decided to take the shortest route to the guns using available wooded cover and grain fields. They also held back some troops in reserve to reinforce any faltering attack. On turn 1, a brave German leader threw himself against the crew of the southernmost Bofors locking the crew in CC and silencing the gun temporarily. Unfortunately he wouldn't survive, but it did allow other units to not have to undergo point-blank prep fire on the British turn. On Turn 2, the Germans forgot to bring in reinforcements. But the northern attack was still working to clear the woods nearest the two other Bofors and doing a decent job of it. With a pincer move gaining a foothold, the Germans worked to envelope the defending ANZACs and Greeks cutting off their avenues to rout away. Finally, on Turn 3, the Germans rushed towards the two remaining Bofors using the cover of the orchards and preserving their options to rout back if the attack failed. The Greeks were able to temporarily hold off the southern German forces from gaining ground. Ultimately with their forces surrounded, the Germans were able to capture/destroy all three guns (VASL Log)	toddgrx

Seton Block	A profoundly unfun game for me. Don't be the Japanese in this one.	grumblejones
The Pouppeville Exit	Played at ASLOK XL, The Bertram Inn, Aurora OH. This was my son Thomas's introduction to ASL. American sniper broke the 3U2 gun crew on turn 1 and they never made it back. Germans moved out of the 3M2 building to CC the 9-1 & 747 attacking that building, went to melee for 3 turns. Other American units swept through the village, lost their 10-2 to rolling boxcars on a MC, and put the bum's rush on the 3N7 gun. Thomas's first shot malf'd the gun, and the Americans won on turn 5. Kebur Zabagna	Harrasing fire FFE saeled the deal. Goosd fun but depends on OBA for both sides.	asloser
Transylvania 6-5000	Nail-biter of a game against Steve's shrewd defense. Among other things, he started two squads behind the hill on board 3, where they took advanage of the Russian's bonus at digging-in to dig foxholes, which I had to blast him out of on Turn 5. To get there, I fired Smoke, Smoke and more Smoke from the StuGs to enable the infantry to get to and clear the hill after repeated melee rolls. My "decisive" move of rushing his remaining tank (the T34-85) cost me two StuGs and immobilized a third, which managed to knock it out with a side shot nonetheless. The game winner was an advancing fire shot by 3 squads on his last good order squad. Emblematic of his dice rolls this game, he rolled boxcars! Very tight game against a skilled player.	Agoldin
Rush Hour	Friday Night Fight The chess match of the first turn was tense but highly enjoyable and would lend to high replayability. My Germans conceded in their turn 4 movement with the Americans currently on 94 VP to my 80 with the strong chance to gain another 4 in CC and the northern half of the board without a infantry sheild to protect the halftracks. Germans had the balance. (VASL Log)	Paul Legg
Melting Pot	Excellent scenario, but I didn’t love the victory conditions. In the end, the Germans held on to the final building by routing broken units upstairs. So, the Brits need to rush those buildings one turn early to prevent this outcome. Otherwise, it’s a fun scenario with a lot of maneuver.	GeneralFG

Cohort and the Phalanx	First off, I think Perry or whoever is insane for declaring that offboard hexes are level 0 even when using come from off-board onto a hill hex (regardless of level). The implication that the world simply ends and becomes a cliff in such a way is insane when we have glider rules that "mirror" based on approach and location. Regardless, I played it the objectively correct way and the Greeks had a hard time approaching the dug in defenders, with some early breaks, turning into early losses, making recovery and progress incredibly hard. I tried to go with a fast approach from either side, hoping to shut down movement across the bridge, but it never materialized. The Guns found their marks and even the Italian MMGs hit several ROFs and the numerous 3/4s I was rolling did the Greeks no favors. Its a fun scenario, and one I'd easily recommend for some less popular adversaries.	Jobbo_Fett

Rush Hour	FNF game. The Americans controlled 14 out of the 27 intersections at the end of turn one and could therefore sit back and let the Germans come to them, with the additional advantage of having the final move. The Germans never overcame the VP hole that they were in and David conceded with two of his Pumas having broken their MA. Even with the balance given to the Germans, this seems to be pro-US. They have greater firepower and mobility than the Germans and the results to date seem to reflect this. The first turns is crucial here.. It is easier to defend the VP lead than to overcome it and it is highly advantageous to have the final turn. (VASL Log)	Dougban

War of the Rats	The Germans had a very successful first PFPh, and the Russian reinforcements arrived only on Turn 5. This, coupled with some smart attacking moves and desperate attempts by the defense, made the end predictable. As was discussed often with this scenario, getting the reinforcements too late can be tough. But overall, it doesn't diminish the enjoyment of this classic scenario.	mestravis

Shoestring Ridge	The American setup was good, and the NVR increased to 7, so movement was difficult for the Japanese. But this one came down to a confrontation between the Japanses 10-1 kill stack and the American 9-2 kill stack. The American 9-2 broke on his first NMC, and then couldn't rally. The Japanese just started slithering by. Once the Americans failed to rally again in their Turn 5, it seemed all but over, so the Amis conceded. We're still learning the Chapter G rules, and it is difficult to prevent a Japanese attack avoiding your troops for an Exit VP condition when you can't use normal routing at night to have a fallback defense. I think that's the key to an American victory in this. That's the draw of this scenario: can you handle the awful terrain and fortifications at night when everything is so challenging. I can't imagine not playing this on VASL. Japanese fire attacks were woeful, but their MCs and TCs were solid, and their CC was outstanding. There just were too few Amis left. (VASL Log)	ubertripp
Balkan Barbecue	Well played defense by my opponent deserved the win. Luck was not really favourable Deep snow with secret bog and despite using platoons I had 2 tanks bog on entry hex. 2 snipers got leader effects a wound and a kill. He started a flame which flipped to blaze on the first opportunity creating smoke to obscure my attack. All went south in a hurry. Wont be playing this one again.	nebel
Italian Crescendo	Interesting scenario as Axis attacker, but spoiled by a blizzard of brutal Russian DRs. It ended very early. I took some calculated risks on the hill to freeze two hexes of ground-level defenders with AFV. All attacks on the AFV came up short. This allowed the Italian 8-1 DC placement. Another unmolested DC placement was forthcoming for the other hex. My opponent conceded. It was a dizzying display of awful rolls.	Houlie
Pynda Avenged	Used the Italian balance. The Italians had everyone in the victory area. The Greeks lost their best leader in turn 2, but still managed to push into the town.	mtrodgers99
Blood Brothers	Fun scenario. I didn't expect it to be as fun, but that could be attributable to me totally dicing Jacob.	atomic

A new publisher in the shop!

Le Franc Tireur have joined the ranks of third party publishers who will be selling digital packs on the shop.

Their first publication in English (and some French!), LFT #8, is now available via LFT #8's publication page and features both the 90+ page magazine and 10 scenarios, for $24.

LFT are trialling the service and if there's enough interest he will be adding many more publications, so if you can support them either through words of encouragement or by purchasing the pack, we have more digital content to look forward to!

Minor updates

The scenario page now has an Order of Battle editor to ease the pain of editing scenarios and slight update in the way scenarios are linked by name to scenarios in ROAR.

More updates

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)

Firstly, just visiting and using the site is great - thanks for being here. You can contribute in many ways, from simply entering data like logging your plays, or your collection - through to rating scenarios or writing reviews. The site does cost me about $100/month to host, which I've been happy to do for a number of years now, and will continue to do so. Don't worry - we're not going away! However, if you'd like to support further donations are welcome (and all donations go towards the costs of running the site) or you could become a Patreon supporter for all sorts of funky benefits! (More details on the Patreon page.)

Patreons and regular donators are signified with a checkmark

on some panels across the site.
