The Party Ends at Neunen	Tough on the Germans but Martin made a good go at it. The OBA is the element that will win for the Germans if they can bring it to bear but there are tough lines of sights to make it happen. Wiking Rescue	Fun scenario, but a bit difficult to play quickly over Teams. Just way too much armor to move around. Would be better as a Face to Face game. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. My Germans weren't able to hold the village as the Russians encircled them. My Panthers managed to knock out just two SU-76's as I lost 5 halftracks and then a Panther was deliberately immobilized and the crew abandoned and was eliminated. At that point and 3 hours into the game, I gave the concession as the Russians had the victory.	grumblejones

Luodian Lament	Good scenario. Chinese had 4 buildings and were in CC at the end in 3 more. Rolled two 6's on ambush and then KIA'd in Hand to Hand. Won the final one and ended the game with only 5 buildings. Tough slog for the Chinese, but it was the ambush rolls that really killed me...no pun intended.	grumblejones

Hakkaa Paalle	As the Finns I was focused on getting mid-board and putting down fire lanes to stop the Russians moving towards west without FFMO, etc. At that point I'd try to keep at ranges where my 8-3-8 could plink at the 6-2-8s without reprisal. The Russians had terrible luck the entire time, losing 4 LMGs to the extreme winter before the half-way point. That meant my Finns could maneuver without fear beyond 4 hexes of the Russian squads, basically. Combined with Russian failed MCs, Casualty MCs, and Fate rallies, the Finns had a 10-0 CVP lead by Turn 5 and could take things easy. The Russians tried to turn on their attackers to level the field, but couldn't handle the Finnish FP. There will be lots of 2 minus 1 and 1 minus 2, etc shots in this. If the 10-2 can keep some functioning LMGs, that can help the Russians a lot. And perhaps forming a defensive blob right as you enter and making the Finns come to you could work. But in our game the Finns won in a landslide. (Or avalanche.)	ubertripp

The Cloak of Disorder	Played this scenario as the attacking Japanese against Chuck Hammond, the scenario designer, defending Chinese. After our thoroughly enjoyable last game, I was looking forward to play Chuck again. He proposed his scenario design pitting an entirely Elite Japanse force supported by a platoon of three Type 89A tank and a 70mm INF Gun towed in by a Truck against a 1st Line Chinese force of 13 squad equivalents holed up in a village in March 1938. The Chinese are reinforced in Turn 3 by two more Leaders and a platoon of Elite 447s along with two Italian L3/35(i) tankettes with variable entry options. The Japanese Ordnance Smoke making capability is capped, while the Chinese may create up to 3 THH/DC Heroes as if they were Japanese. PTO Terrain is not in effect. The Japanese may enter on/after Turn 1 from one board edge as they please. The objective is to Control Stone Building Locations within the village by game end. A Quick Strike	Friday Night Fight Fun game, it came down to a mad dash to exit on the last turn. It was tight with managing to exit the required 16 evp + a 2vp cushion for a captured pillbox. We discovered at the end of the game that Tony had setup 2 Pillboxes illegally but don't think it affected the result materially. We had a few issues with VASL ((VASL 6.7.1 - VASSAL 3.7.18) Firstly, I hadn't thought to deselect the Auto-reveal HIP Fortifications, although my opponent didn't have it switched on, it revealed his entrenchments despite being PTO in the first place and secondly the LOS went through Swamp hexes as well. Pillboxes were not revealed. Secondly board 75(v6.7) didn't fully convert to PTO terrain :-Brush didn't convert to inherent Bamboo and a couple of hexsides in interior Dense Jungle stayed clear. Diggers at Chongju	American tanks knocked out two T-34/85's on Turn 1 and the final one on Turn 2. The North Korean MMG and HMG stacks were smoked which allowed the British infantry to surge forward and take the objectives.	grumblejones
Men of the Mountains	Solo play, first time with both partisans and Italians, I might have missed some national capabilities quirks. Very entertaining scenario. The Italians were taking good care of all fronts, with a MMG in the steeple and the gun and tankette on hill 547. The tide started to turn when the partisan sniper broke the gun crew before they could fire their first shot at the incoming reinforcements. Then the fight for the gun started. The partisans managed to blaze the tankette and break some infantry even with the captured + non-qualified penalties. In the end, the Italians could not make it to the gun's hex.	mestravis
Ripe for the Picking	Thanks to my friend Steve for humoring me by playing the Germans in this scenario. The Germans have it rough in this one as they face two armored columns approaching on their own axis of advance. The Culin hedgerow-busting devices and air support give the Americans some nice tools to use, and I especially enjoy the cannister firing 37s and 75s and the HT which dismounts the US 50 cal. with crew. Nonetheless, Steve's Germans managed two score two Recalls on my open topped vehicles (one each with a Sniper and a long range IFT attack from his HMG) and his MkIVs briefly kept me bottled up until my airpower arrived. Using the aircraft MGs (I prefer them against armor over the rockets) I managed to destroy one tank and immobilize another. Add that together with a lucky hit from a Sherman and a surprise bazooka attack knocking out the immobilized Mk4, by Turn 7 Steve didn't have much left to stop me so he conceded. Overall fun scenario for the Americans, not so much for the Germans.	Agoldin
A Quick Strike	Friday Night Fight Game This is a mismatch in terms of relative OB strength but the terrain is a great equaliser. As the Japanese defender, I set up two dummy stacks and 3 squads in the jungle surrounding the CC2 bamboo with two HIP HS in the K2 jungle. This is a risky set up so close to the US attackers but I figured that it was worth it in order to delay the attack. Time is the main issue for the Americans with such constrictive terrain to traverse. I also hoped that Chip might take the less obviously defended path up the left side where pillboxes and MGs covered the ground behind the jungle. Smelling a rat, ne just attacked straight into the teeth of the defence and the Americans ground forward. Despite the favourable modifiers, the Japanese couldn't buy an ambush when they needed it and this eventually was their downfall. The game came down to the Americans needing to run a squad through open ground while surviving a 2 FP attack from the only surviving Japanese HS to make it to the exit. The chances of surviving this were greatly improved when a US squad managed to hinder LOS with a smoke grenade and the defensive first fire DR of 11 came nowhere close to getting the done. This is an excellent scenario which shows PTO fighting at its best with outnumbered Japanese using stealth and terrain to fight an overwhelmingly more powerful attacker. Let’s Shoot the S.O.B.’s	Fun, small scenario. North Koreans were able to clear the southern part of the hill, but in the final movement phase lost their third T-34/85 to a Bazooka. The 50 BAZ's are tough! The same 6-6-7 knocked out all three T-34/85's for the win.	grumblejones
Disengagement Under Fire	Put the Grants on the hillocks so I would have all tubes available. Didn't get enough hits before they were knocked out and it was over after three turns. Would try again.	wwillow
Not Apt to Drag Feet	German defense setup had all AFV's in aggressive forward positions. Americans pushed through this line causing more harm than they received. From there it was steady forward momentum to the north and victory.	Kydder

Highlander Victory	All the Canadian CCs went their way. Progress was fairly rapid and the panzer suffered a critical hit from 3 hexes from a PIAT. This made gaining control back of the bridge impossible.	dmareske
Battle of the Barricades	I set up all the way back on the north hill inside the large 2-story building. So for almost 4 turns there was nary a shot fired. If the defender sets up like this, I think it's quite difficult for the attacker to win. Once I took out his flame-tank, the writing was on the wall.	Chuck

The Cloak of Disorder	A hard fought win for the Japanese, only taking two of the four VC buildings in their final turn and resisting a limited Chinese counter attack in the last half turn. The IJA is outnumbered 16-11 in squad equivalents and with the Chinese having both Dare Death capability and (by SSR) THH, conserving the Japanese force sufficiently to hold what you have taken needs some thought in this one	Simonstan
The Blood of Lambs	Germans got held up on their left flank by some pesky Russians, who held out until Turn 7. The Germans mad good progress on the right, but also stalled at the church. Called it for the Russians after Turn 8. Even though the hill was cleared the village would not be. Great scenario but the Germans have to be fairly aggressive.	dmareske
Round One	First scenario with roadblocks and wire for the attacker. The German vehicles hurried to discover the enemy fortifications but, alas, the Polish guns were waiting for them. There were some glimpses of hope when two guns malfunctioned and one was eliminated in close combat together with its manning crew, but eventually the Polish reached the necessary CVP before a single German Infantry unit could cross the central road.	mestravis
A Few Rare Men	A dramatic French victory due to extremely low lows on vital shots that prevented the Germans from maintaining their foothold in the victory building. Other noteworthy actions being a Green squad killing two German 4-6-7s over 3 turns in Melee - gross! I don't know if its a scenario error, but I did not see any Errata that pointed out the issue, namely that the Germans enter on the EAST edge, aka NOT entering on Board 18. This makes Board 18 irrelevant for the victory condition and only relevant for the German reinforcements, which shouldn't matter anyways because who cares for a 37L against +3 stone buildings. It's been said before but Urban combat without the pre-requisite tools, such as DC or Flamethrowers makes for unappealing gameplay, and this scenario is no exception.	Jobbo_Fett

Piercing the Abscess	I set up the three 57L south of the stream and the 3 x Baz 44 on the right side in case the German tried to push the more open ground (risking bog) or more straight road routes. German went down the centre pretty much however and the centre was dealt with rather quickly once their 838s came on board. I rolled the extra Tiger for the Germans which helped deal with the nest of Americans in the centre area and the Germans were doing fine until the 155 landed on Turn 6, right on the elevated road (13M5), catching one Elephant, a 548 and the 9-1, eventually eliminating them with the FFE:2. Germans came up 2 VP short, when the last Elephant was taken out by a hurried shot from the remaining 57L (broken crew, recovered the Gun, spin and fired (rolled snakes on the TK)) as it was about to drive off the board. Great scenario of fire and movement, with a couple of set piece battles in the midst. The Aerial Observer was less than effective, failing several radio contacts and then drawing a red chit on its second Access attempt, but by then the last 57L had taken out the remaining Elephant and denied the Germans the VP required. Forest Strongpoint	Germans are pretty tough in this one. 9-2 with two HMG's, a Hero, 48 AP Mines with Barb Wire and nice cleared fire zone...oh and with 80mm Battalion Mortar OBA coming down in tree bursts. Yeah...you'll need a lot of luck as the Russians. Oh don't bother dragging your Mortar, HMG and MMG through the mine laden woods. Just move and hope you survive with enough troops to maybe do something to the German strongpoint.	grumblejones
Phoenix Rising	The Chinese took a beating but ended up getting all three guns in turn 6. Dare Death squads were used to good effect drawing fire and getting into some CC. Fun scenario.	dmareske
French Spirit	Good scenario and a great opponent. My French maneuvered south early to link up with reinforcements from the west and tanks from the south to hit the village en masse (with a few detached to delay the Germans coming down from the north). Germans pushed reinforcements hard down the east edge to come up over the hill and reinforce the village from the east. Tanks chugged into the village and did ok until the MG version (the most useful one) X'd the MA and recalled. Quickly developed to multiple melees that lasted 3-4 turns, both sides feeding reinforcements into the melees while the few uncommitted French worked to hold off the reinforcements. On the final turn, French had what they needed but one German squad managed to run the DFF/SFF/residual gauntlet and survived to jump into a melee, and the final CC DRs crushed the French hopes. Had a lot of fun with this scenario and definitely recommend.	RMod

Melting Pot	FNF Game. This is a very tense scenario with good chances for both sides. Jonas played an aggressive defence that broke the right flank of the British attack. They made better progress up the middle but it was still touch and go when the German PzIV was taken down while attempting an attack against an American TD, at which point Jonas , perhaps prematurely, conceded. Par Saint Georges!	German tanks went down to the blazing French tank guns. 2 French tanks and one German all stunned. Both French recovered and the German died. French infantry on board 16 broke in the center of the board. Two of the three squads rallied from under dm. Germans failed their personal morale check and chucked it in.	Guru Bob
Bastion Bodange	Paddington Bearz - Jan 2026. Fun scenario. Conceded as the Germans as we were running out of time. Might have been a tight finish if we had kept playing but I think the Belgians had the edge. A mistaken air attack (rolled boxcars on the sighting TC) by the Stuka didn't help the German cause. Makin Taken	This was a close game which Martin won in the last turn. He attacked in strength across the North board clearing the Japanese by turn 5. The Japanese failed on every Tank Hunter die roll and had no answers for the American AFVs. However despite the Americans had overwhelming fire power but still struggled to clear the Japanese. On the last turn he drove his AFVs into my occupied huts collapsing them but taking out two of my remains 3 squads from my defence of board 35. With only one squad to defend he was able to overwhelm me and take the 3 huts he needed for victory.	alexashton@vinecc.org

Phoenix Rising	The Chinese set up all long the bottom with a two hex deep assault planned. This would set up for a potential turn two human wave. The initial fire from the Japanese was ineffective. The attack by the Chinese was very effective including a Critical hit on a Art gun. The Chinese was able to get around the left side of the hill. By turn 4 the game was no longer any fun for the Japanese and they conceded. We felt that even with balance the game is still to pro Chinese.	slunts

The Replacements	My Russians lost on the first turn, when I MALF'd my 45 AT Gun and broke an ATR. After that the tanks and the Italian squads with an absurd and ridiculous number of machine guns chopped me up. I didn't enjoy this scenario.	grumblejones
The Amy H	I didn't play with some of the crazier options (just keeping a unit HIP until the end of the game, or allowing the Trucks to move on their own). It's an interesting scenario, allowing for some trickery as the trucks don't HAVE to be ammo vehicles - and why I think they shouldn't be movable on their own - so you can play with your opponent's tactics that way. The Germans were methodical in their advance, but the low unit count and having to take on Stone buildings proved tough. The motorcycles were abandoned instantly. Three German tanks managed to advance on and surround the Matilda II, only for it to maintain Rate of Fire 3 times and blow them all up. The last tank didn't last much longer either. Ultimately, this turned into a German win only because they managed to break enough units and isolate the rest in Melee. There's a serious consideration to be had to have the Armor Leader abandon the tank just to have that extra Infantry Unit to avoid the game loss. Not terrible, but not something I'd want to play several times.	Jobbo_Fett

Bloody Burgberg	Concur this one is very difficult for the Germans. My opponent set up a strong position and defended it skillfully, but there are just so many Americans with so much firepower and so much time. Moving through the tough terrain is a slog, but I was able to maneuver around the bunker CAs and surround the position, taking one bunker and achieving 2 VCs (CVP cap and majority of squads at Lvl 4) by end of turn 5. German options are limited and pretty much over once they have set up. With the terrain and US ability to attack from multiple directions, they don't have much ability to react/reposition to American attack as it develops. German balance might help a bit but likely wouldn't tip this past 75% US, in my opinion.	RMod

Melting Pot	Friday Night Fight In my setup I tried a bit of subterfuge by not HIPing the ATG to make it look like there were three dummy vehicles making it look like I only had 1 dummy infantry stack. Also the two 8-0 leaders setup forward with a squad each to look like mg positions. The PzIV in 53L3 was boresighted on 53E9, the mmg in 53M5 on 53L10, 50mm mortar in 53X7 on 4GG1 and the ATG in 53DD5 on 4DD6. Chip's troops entered mainly on turn 1 with the M10s entering individually with riders on turns 1, 2 & 3 on a broadish front through the centre. I conceded in German turn 5 when an important stack fell to allied defensive fire leaving too few defenders to prevent an overrun in the allied's final 2 turns. (VASL Log)	Paul Legg
Kicked to the Curb	Enjoyed this fight and learned a lot from a skilled opponent. I set up for the main push from the center/north, with a smaller flank attack from the south. Russians executed an excellent delaying action, able to mass units and/or firepower at the right times and places to blunt my various attempts to lunge forward. Poles had limited success in the center but I never managed to get my MGs positioned optimally to support the assault. Underscored for me the importance when on the attack of planning several turns ahead on where your units and weapons systems need to be, anticipating the defender's ability to disrupt your planned pace, and having contingencies thought out in advance as to what to do if that happens. An enjoyable fight and a good scenario.	RMod

All That Glitters	Undefended buildings in the plains meant a bloody control for the hill, buildings and guns. Needing to take back a couple buildings in Turn 3 the Japanese were only able to manage mutual elimination of units in CC hand-to-hand.	dmareske
Strangers in a Strange Land	The French tried a balanced approach through left, right and center. The 60mm mortar on the level 2 hill did its job throughout the scenario, until it honorably failed in the last turn. The gullies were utilized by both sides to move and cover extensively. The greatest mistake by the French was to not reach the far edge with at least one of the tanks before the German reinforcements arrived. That way, these could easily reach the building without resistance. This eventually made the battle impossible for the French. Very fun scenario, with the all-HIP-setup dynamic, and we got a lot of HoB and CC, although little sniper action.	mestravis

A Well-Engineered Ambush		Pantera
Sabres, Boots & Saddles	Great game with Chuck. We approached each other cautiously until all our forces were on board on Turn 3 before going at it full force. Chuck had an armored car slightly forward of his infantry, so I went after it with both M8 armored cars. The first missed, and the second malf'd its MA, requiring me to bring up the TD (with my armor leader), which managed to hit and destroy it. Even so, Turn 4 was looking tough as Chuck came at me with his best infantry (548, LMG, 9-2) to set himself up for street fighting against one of my armored cars, which was still buttoned up due to having failed an IFT MC in the previous turn. Chuck then maneuvered his armed halftracks to try to cover the main victory locations in the road junction, but one of them stopped in the LOS of my TD which scored a low-probability hit on a '4', destroying it. In attempt to set himself up for a kill shot on my light tank, Chuck brought up his second armored car. Knowing I had to destroy it, I took a chance eating the backblast from a bazooka, needing a '5' to hit. I'm glad I did, since the shot (a '4') would have missed otherwise. The squad survived the 2 check easily enough but the armored car crew did not survive the attack. Having already malf'd the MA on his Marder, Chuck had enough of my hot dice at that point and conceded. Can't say I blame him. Overall I give the Americans the edge since their vehicles are qualitatively better, in my opinion. Fun game with a great opponent!	Agoldin

Raiders Along the Wall	The Americans set up with a forward defense, ready to punish the Germans as they entered. The Germans managed to make some ground, but enough of the force was broken that it slowed down advancing. This was compounded as the Americans kept the broken Germans under DM while moving backward to take new positions, forcing the Germans to cross more open ground. Still, the Germans had a solid chance by turn 4, the southern flank managing to push close to the center victory building while sending a stack sprinting for the building in the rear. They could not pull it off and the Americans held a solid position for the win.	Turuk
Stalin's Orders	I made some ill-advised counterthrusts as the defender to knock him off balance and they both failed miserably, leaving me completely exposed. Derek played a really good game, not failing his PMC after a few initial setbacks!	Chuck

Ridgway's Mission	Overall I think this is a pretty even match however, the US can be overwhelmed and probably needs a little help at Neuville au Plain end of the board. Ferrying a 1/2 with jeep and maybe a DM mortar or sending a squd or two in that direction can help but, the German's can catch and overwhelm that force in 9 turns. A bad pin result or losing the MMG to malfunction is significatnt. This is how I lost. The southern edge of the battlefield was a pretty good seesaw and after 9 turns my US guys were really beginning to ware down the Germans a bit and a counterattack was in the making. Tom and I had fun with this and I think it gives both players a good glimpse into the desperation both had to contend with on that day.	SGT Mac
Dash for the Stairs	As the name indicates, this one is all about controlling the stairwells. It will be interesting to see where the Amis setup, though with their ground-level restrictions the Japs can more or less dictate the situation. There's probably only one hex outside the building the Japs can set up in to avoid some potentially withering fire. The east side of the building was guarded with mines and wire and, though the Amis probably fully expected some further surprises, this is the area they chose to bull rush. Once the Amis get inside the building they will be extremely tough to stop, their only limitation being their poor morale. The Amis were slowed by some HIPs, but didn't suffer so much as a break. With the trap sprung, the Japs broke and routed to the arms of their waiting leader, and the Amis would have free reign to walk in the doors Turn 2. Vut not before the Japs poured into the cellars in the west. The eastern defenses were rapidly attrited by the Ami kill stack, and the Japs quickly lost a HS and striped a squad. Meanwhile the 2-4-9 hero was a bitch to take out, even in CC, and he got the best of a Jap HS. Thankfully he fell at the bottom of the turn, as well as another Jap HS, and the Japs burned one of their few precious DCs. There were still some Amis outside the building in the east, slowed by a brave and hearty defender. But Turn 3 saw the Amis fully inside the building (except for the kill stack which moved unopposed into one of the trenches outside in the south), and fully in control of the eastern stairs. The Amis burned two DCs while continuing to whittle away at the Japs, who lost another squad. Turn 4 saw probably a game-saving event. With Ami momentum rapidly growing, the Japs banzaied through the cellars from west to east, forcing an Ami squad to break in FPF, and clearing a path. Their attrition still continued however, losing 1.5 more squads, but the re-routing of Amis to deal with this new menace would buy them much-needed time. And so it became a battle of two halves: the Japs confined to the cellars in the east, as the Amis controlled 3/4 of the stairwells, while the Japs staunchly defended their last remaining access to the upper levels in the west. The body count on Turn 5 was mostly even: 1.5 squads for the Japs vs. one squad for the Amis. Concluding their half of the turn, the Japs made what would either be a game-winning move or game-losing move, depending on the dice, when they evacuated both heavy MGs from the cellars to the trenches. As luck would have it, they got the best of the 9-2 HMG stack when he flubbed his attack, sending him running deep into the bowels of the building. This allowed them to repopulate the area, forming a ring of Level 1 hexes around the 8-0 and three 137s. Virtually impregnable, they would just have to see one more HS hold out to preserve victory. When the FT fizzled out, and the 8-1 and HS leaving the building to dive into the back trenches was gunned down, the Japs had at least 5 VP left of GO units in the building. This one is probably more interesting on paper than it plays, because once you get into it it's a bit of a headache for both sides managing all the different levels. It would probably be helpful to have a copy of the building at hand so that each side could use their own when manipulating all the different counters that will be cluttered amongst only a few pertinent hexes.	buser333
Gavin's Gamble	Big scenario with a River crossing proving troublesome as drifting as well as the possibility of slow progress with loss of MP depending on die rolls a plenty, which probably worked in my favour. The Americans had spasmodic progress across the River and that may have gained me a turn or two before they were fully able to advance before the Dyke. Despite suffering heavy losses near the GG row, which gives the Americans 150% of the exit points, I kept enough behind the Dyke to get lucky with Pins or better. My Mortar and HMG were effective, and the AA Guns less so, although the crew of one were prone to breaking before being despatched by the Allied Sniper. The Americans conceded in T9 when Defensive fire drove my opponent to misjudge MF Gavin himself needed to exit, against seeking to avoid DF from my HMG. T'was a close run result though, and whilst the Germans got a good number of Sniper Activations very few progressed to 1 or 2 to generate a result.	Tigernaut
