Death Solves All Problems rangercote
Taking TaillevillePaul's outer ring of Germans did their job grinding down my Canadian attack and I had to rush to get to the fortified building in sufficient time to try to take it. By that time I had expended both my FTs and I had to rely on sheer firepower. After I had surrounded the building and encircled its defenders, Paul cleverly slipped some of his Germans away through the tunnel, appearing behind my Canadians, who had to hustle to get into CC against them. Meanwhile the Germans in the fortress stood firm. After repeated attacks (and poor dice rolling on my part) the German luck finally ran out as they broke from point-blank Sherman fire. Very close game!

Gun & RunFNF game. The Gurkha gunners were deadly here. Four tanks were eliminated and one was shocked in the first MPh and that was game over, The Japanese need to be a bit circumspect here and try to keep a couple of tanks out of sight until the infantry have cleared the way for them to advance. The Badger's BreathGerman’s had lots of smoke to cover the assault. Caught a Sherman moving to protect the south flank which opened up the side. Was able to push into the village and overwhelmed the defenders.

Clash at BorisovkaSwitched sides while still learning. We may have gotten a few rules incorrect during play. The Russians made a dash for the south not wanting to engage with the Tigers or PzIVs, but the Germans would have none of it. While initial German fire managed to take out several T-34s, the Russians managed to swarm behind German armor and to knock out a few PzIVs. But ultimately they were no match vs the PzVIE (VASL Log) toddgrx
A Long Way To GoWell, this didn't go well for the Americans (me). On Turn 2, I quickly realized that I had set up too far forward and in positions that didn't leave me many shots. Most were either blocked or into several hindrances. It's never a good day when you've got to immediately fall back or when your rout paths are limited.

The Germans quickly swarmed to the west and pushed forward. While another force kept the Americans busy in the east. Unable to withstand the German attack, and having few rout paths, the Americans lost two squads and a leader to "failure to rout". The Germans continued to push albeit very very cautiously which allowed the Americans in the east to rush westward in a desperate attempt to delay the German advance. Mount PissoderiNice, tightly balanced scenario. Greek 9-1/HMG in overwatch on Brd 2 had a few rate runs that broke up Italian repositioning and allowed flanking forces to scale the cliffs from behind and take the key positions. Italian AC finally overran the HMG position but too late to make the difference. Great tactical challenge for both sides, would play again with either side. RMod
French SpiritGreat little scenario that has both sides defending and attacking. Seems a little hard on the Germans especially if the French oust the village defenders before help arrives. dmareske

Frazer unfortunately failed his PMC and conceded during his turn 3 movement. We both agreed that he could easily get 5 of the buildings, but Frazer felt the final two would be a struggle. One-Eyed JacquesAfter my 9-2 died in Melee in the factory my sights turned to the building on the hill. Sniper activity prevented a clear win, but in the end the Germans prevailed. I had fun driving one PZIIs around in the factory. French guns had little effect as they either missed or malf'ed on an IF shot. However, the French infantry did put up a stiff resistance. The Germans only won by a 1/2 squad. dmareske

An Uncommon OccurrenceA sub-optimal ESB move on the first turn resulted in one of my tanks becoming immobilised. I then managed to lose all my platoon tanks without anything to show for it. I managed to destroy one of Hugh's tanks when he rushed me but was unable to score a hit on his small target, motion tanks, despite being point blank. I threw in the towel when I was 22-5 CVP's down. First DanceThe Germans had it all over the French at the start and managed to capture the central building. Was able to dispatch the French AC's but when the French tanks arrived it was a different story. Best I could manage was an immobilisation, with my 37mm shots pinging off French armour without result. Now I know why the Jerries called the 37mm the "doorknocker". Well played by Rob. He was careful with his platoon of S35's not to present a side shot. +6 armour for the 37L makes a kill very unlikely. Nicho11

A Vast Hellish RuinGermans came back with a vengeance on Turn 5 with ROF terror from 37L Gun taking out three American AFV with CA changes vs Motion vehicles & out of a Dispersed Smoke hex. This resulted in Americans surpassing their CVP cap.

Gallic CounterpunchJeff moved all his tanks in threes. Turn 1 saw one trio make for the north to secure the VC road there, a trifecta of platoons move straight up the middle (the area I was most concerned about his wave of infantry entering), with the last trifecta of platoons south along the road. I was fully expecting a sweeping move from the south, so I set up all but one of my guns along this route. One of my 37Ls shocked an AC, and then proceeded to bust on its next attempt. Turn 2 saw the shocked tank become a confirmed kill, another blown up in my second AT gun's bore sighted hex, and my 88 brew up a B1. But on the bottom of the turn, unable to hit on its first shot and thinking its last target ever would be driving off, it overheated for good on an IF shot. Well...this wasn't looking too good. Turn 3 saw him get a bit aggressive trying to pave the way for his trucks, smashing an H39 into my broken gun's hex and bogging. He was taken out in CC by my crew, who broke shortly after and was eliminated. My last remaining visible gun down there was blown to bits with a CH. OK...really not looking good. Turn 4 saw him make for the bridge and me bring on my last gun in the area. It proceeded to immobilize a truck, but did nothing to hurt the passengers. It then proceeded to follow suit and break on its next shot. Good thing my tanks rolled on that turn because that crew was soon broken and dispatched as well. They entered in the SE and formed a line. Lucky for me I turned a 9-1 berserk, who proceeded to convert 1.5 squads to his cause in charging my marvelously MG-laden row of metal. They were shot to bits on Turn 5. We proceeded to exchange tank-for-tank. Thankfully the one I lost had already managed to break its MA, soon to be joined by my 9-2 tank's gun. All those beautiful MGs broke up his infantry pretty well and he could only sneak enough men over the bridge to grab the first three buildings. Meanwhile I was wining the tank battle despite breaking yet another gun, and by the end of Turn 6 two more French tanks were scrap. So in the end he came up short in VP (19-29), and was blown out of the water in CVP (14-44). All this despite my horrific luck with my guns. I really didn't care for this scenario, as it's mostly all about guessing correctly with the gun placement vs the approach. buser333
Blood on the TracksHard scenario for the german...the only flame counter that begins the scenario transform absolutelly our play. Also, losing the 10-2 to Vassili Zaitsev rifle, was a big inconvenience....

Heavy Metal NoiseBoth sides chose the B group of reinforcements, the Germans more halftracks, speed and CVP, the Russians with more infantry to stop building control. The game went back and forth as the big tanks suffered losses. As the game wound down the Germans scrambled for more buildings and exit VP, both remaining King Tigers had Malfed MA which became not enough to exit. It was a fun game. First time doing a dogfight which saw to the eventual destruction of both Russian planes. dmareske

Heavy Metal NoiseBig scenario - lots of different action and possibilities. Despite thin lines the Russians have enough to stymie the attack just enough and my opponent had a nice defense that did the job despite some ill timed rolls. Highlight was definitely the dogfight and winning that dice contest to have my surviving FB get a CH on a IS and moving squad for a couple of accomplishments on the bucket list. Good times but two malfs for my Big Cats and eventually finding all of Dave's traps did me in. Definitely plan to play again. nebel

Vienna's Final DefenceMy inexperience showed as I let my AFVs get too close to Chip's panzerfaust wielding Germans. I got smoke from them, just not in the way I wanted. Chip rolled low exactly when he needed to against my infantry and my Russians just couldn't get across hexrow J. As turn 3 became turn 4 it became obvious that I would not achieve the victory conditions. geebeehaitch

UnhorsedAs Americans, I split my forces across the board, and that ended up serving the Germans defense more than me. I finally make a breakthrough on turn 4, but not enough squads down in south to get off the board. cscottk
Scorched EarthAfter x’ing one of the FT on each of the two flammpanzers on the first turn the little monsters did the heavy lifting in the scenario smoke pouring from the special sD to cover my infantry and flames licking up Russian positions. ATR and INF gun were ineffective and it was already too late for the T28 to save the day despite killing 2 tanks when it entered. This scenario definitely requires fortitude and creativity from the Russian defense to have a chance. H&V2026 nebel
Exit PoleThere was an slight chance of moving cloaked on the Polish right so I went that way. I put the two HMG on level 2 to provide overwatch. This paid dividends when the Germans started firing. I was lucky with German MC failures and on the penultimate turn with German star shell placement. mtrodgers99

Katyusha's EmbraceFun scenario with a neat little defense setup. Russians had some bad luck with their OBA and then broke two MA, so the attacked stalled out. dmareske
Swan SongOurs played out very historically. I think the Germans racked up 53 CVP, lots of French blood spilled to win this one, but they did. A great scenario, with a lot of options from a strategy perspective. The French achieved the VC at the end of game turn 11. CWO_19
First DanceCould not kill the French ACs and received too many kills on the German 37Ls. The French managed some late game CHs with their S35s against my infantry. A notable last CC saw two 8-1 leaders take on the French 9-1 and 4-5-7, ambushed them and killed them. But those two leaders could not control the building as one of the S35s got a kill on my half squad in the building. Don't think I had enough VPs even then. It was fun to play out though! dmareske

Danish CrossroadsFriday Night Fight (VASL Log) Bongiovanni
Danish CrossroadsTough sledding for the Danes in this FNF game when they broke both ATGs without scratching the paintwork of any German AFVs. Frazer then used his ACs aggressively to try to freeze defending infantry to allow the Germans to make progress. This led to a rare event when the Danes managed to stun and capture an immobilized AC when the crew abandoned it. I had hopes that this might nail the reinforcing MkII at point blank range on the final turn but a DR of 11 kind of summed up the performance of Danish ordnance here. The final act came when the Germans had one unbroken squad in a victory hex in the final turn. An adjacent building contained a broken crewed and ATG with an 8-0 leader and 457 which was frozen by the MkII. The Danes managed to repair the gun, spin it and retain ROF with a shot at the tank. A hull hit bounced off the armour (needing a DR of 6 to kill). An intensive fire shot generated multiple hits, both of which resulted in DRs of 8. The tank survived and the 457 was denied the chance to try to break the adjacent German squad. That was that when the Danish stack broke under heavy defensive fire. Considering the complete failure of Danish guns to do any damage whatsoever, it was surprising that the finish was as close as it was. At least the capture of an enemy AFV ticked off an item on my ASL bucket list! (VASL Log) Dougban
Villains at Ville-sur-IllonConservative German attack ran out of time. My AFV MG's had several key rolls on his infantry which sent Krauts scurrying back. FB immobilized a panzer and DM'd infantry. Fun for both of us. nebel

Pomeranian FuryGerman advance managed to avoid main Russian line of A-P mines and Guns to keep his units intact thus eventually swarming the beleaguered defenders. Kydder
The Gingerbread MenGermans placed the roadblock well forward, covered by MGs, and spread out squads to cover the forests. Roadblock and deep snow puts tremendous pressure on the US side to clear the road and get the tanks in play as soon as possible. A Sherman finally managed to blast the roadblock out of the way but as the Germans repositioned the US ran out of time to clear the woodline along the exit road of 'fausters. RMod

Escape from Komsomol ParkRussians split their force about evenly, half staying and breaking a HS across the street in PFPh, the other making their way east across the street. They need to be very wary about guarding their rears from the German reinforcements. This they did, and the first batch entered on the eastern plaza. Second Turn saw them break the remaining frontline guards and start to push their way forward. The gutted buildings will make movement very slow. One of their LMGs broke for good. Turn 3 was more agonizing grind, both sides being almost entirely concealed. Turn 4 saw the Russians far enough ahead that the Germans felt their latest reinforcements were again needed in the rear. They sacrificed a HS to search and reveal a whole stack of Russians, setting up a bloody HtH showdown, which saw the Germans lose a 467, an 8-1, and a 9-1. While the Russians, victorious, lost a 237 and 328. After this there were still too many bodies in the way, so the survivors changed tack and swarmed west to join their comrades, their 8-1 leader breaking in the process. The bottom of Turn 5 saw me survive a bunch of point-blank shots, the +2 LV certainly making all shooting difficult. My forward troops were only a diversion though for my 5VP worth of men sitting on top of the street sewer. After choosing to shoot and stun the AC guarding their target manhole (I needed it alive), they used the sewers on Turn 6 to enter, exit, ambush, and withdraw off board for the victory. Good thing too, because the backup plan saw only 3VP worth of men make it out alive. A rather hokey little scenario, sounding more interesting on paper than it played. buser333
Hammer to the TeethThe German attack into Bleialf forced the Americans to hastily take up defensive positions. With a barrage of smoke from a German 81mm mortar, the main attack of three battalions pushed into Bleialf from the southeast while a flanking maneuver by one German battalion was temporarily halted by a lone bazooka team in the north. The American squads in the south began to fall back having taken casualties from the main German assault. As the main attack moved up onto a hill overlooking the village center, a 57mm AT gun, concealed in some woods, opened fire on the German units rushing to occupy the high ground. Meanwhile, the northern flanking attack had engaged the bazooka team in hand-to-hand combat. A German squad rushed along the southern flank to get in behind the Americans, but another 57mm AT gun, this one concealed in a building on the square, opened fire allowing a beleaguered American squad to fall back into cover. Now on the high ground the main German attack poured withering fire onto the AT gun in the woods temporarily routing the crew out of their position. Meanwhile, reinforcements from the 81st came rushing in from the rear to protect the remaining gun and its crew. As the Germans were regrouping, the first gun crew rallied and attempted to retake the gun position only to break once again under fire. The Germans on the high ground moved into the square to rout out the gun crew and a half-squad supporting them. Meanwhile, the bazooka team had managed to eliminate two full squads in hand-to-hand combat, but pinned when fired upon by the several machine gun crews. By now, the Germans split their forces into two with one battalion attempting a southern push while the other battalion flanked north. As the remaining Americans fell back to more defensible positions, the Germans knocked out the AT gun in the woods, but the remaining AT gun along with two machine guns kept the southern flank attack stalled. The Germans knocked out one of the machine guns as their crew fled across the square. Then the German machine gun squads moved to high ground attempting to push the northern flanking attack. Unable to rally along the southern flank, and unable to push further into the village from the north, the Germans retreated (conceded) and left Bleialf still in American hands. (VASL Log) toddgrx
Danish CrossroadsHerbert played extremely well. I foolishly placed the non-HIP 20mm cannon too far forward and his MG fire group broke the crew in Axis T1 prep fire, followed by one of my squads going berserk in Axis T1 AFPh. After that, my defence of the woods in the center crumbled but not before inflicting morale checks on advancing German infantry. I was lucky with the remaining 20mm cannon and the MMG, turning two of the armored cars into blazing wrecks by the end of turn 3. I was also lucky enough to immobilise the PzKpfwII with a street fighting attack one hex away from the victory crossroads in Axis T4 Mph. Sadlyy, the advancing Germans overwhelmed the Danes in Axis T5 and I was obliged to concede (although I did already consider conceding at the end og Game Turn 4). Well done to Herbert. geebeehaitch

The scenario page now has an Order of Battle editor to ease the pain of editing scenarios and slight update in the way scenarios are linked by name to scenarios in ROAR.

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
