As the majority of the 119th Infantry Regiment advanced into North Wuerselen, they left behind a reduced company deployed around a roadblock to protect their line of communication. There seemed little chance of significant action. Suddenly, as light began to fail, armed German halftracks struck at the small American force. . .

Illuminating Rounds Tournament Round 1 - PBEM - I played the defending Americans and Tim was the Germans. I decided to play aggressively with the Americans and this paid off early with the destruction of a number of half-tracks. A missed bazooka shot at point blank range at a H/T on the right flank might have finished the game earlier. The +2 moving, +1 size and +1 LV modifiers reducing the To Hit number to a 5. Missed it by 1 so blamed the LV!
Tim managed to push into the centre of town only to have the H/T destroyed by the 9-2 leader and the MMG. A last ditch effort saw him capture the Victory hex by withdrawing a squad from CC. This was then supported by one of the turretted H/T's but neither side could do much damage.
It all came down to the final turn where I reinforced the melee in the Victory Hex with two full squads and the 9-2 leader. I needed to wipe him out as he had controlled it last. A squad had also advanced into CC with the H/T and destroyed it. The final CC resolved in the Americans' favour and they snatched a narrow win.
Thanks go to Tim for a good game and for his patience with my constantly forgetting to apply the +1 LV hindrance. A very enjoyable scenario. Log File submitted to IR.

Illuminating Rounds tournament round 1: 2021. Germans got thoroughly diced for the duration of the game. It turned out to be great bazooka practice for the Americans.

US balance used. sides chosen at random. 9-2 leader + MG seemed more useful than the 3 bazookas

US balance applied. Germans called it T5 down to 1 GO squad vs 3.5 with the 9-2 still in the game and controlling the victory hex. Bazookas ineffective but Sniper recall and CC did for a number of the halftracks

It felt like it came down to the last turn, a nice close scenario we played with the balance in favour of the US which seems to be fair. If you want to have fun with halftracks this is a good option
Played as part of IR tournament

Played as part of the ASL Scenario Archive tournament. My half tracks were used as mobile gun-trucks. I was able to keep my manoeuvre up enough to get in among Jean-Yves little village, aided by the 9-2 wounding on a Casualty Morale Check. Don't discount those 37mm Rounds!

Moving halftracks kept the Americans busy. The halftracks were able to get behind the US lines and get the 37L into the victory hex. The Americans had to assault the hex the last turn and faced a enough firepower to break or pin them where they stood, unable to get into CC with the vehicle. A major turning point was when the German sniper took out the 9-2 US leader.

Dave maneuvered his HTs around really well. Well done by him. I did take out a few of his HTs, but fell victim to some over-confidence when I moved my 9-2 out to CC (and destroy) one of those HTs. this in itself was not horrible, but because the 9-2 was in open ground (vice the higher TEM of a building), when Dave got a sniper, it selected the 9-2's hex and POW - killed the 90-2; also breaking (and ELRing) the squad with him. This unhinged my entire defense and Dave was able to get into the victory hex and not let me get back to it for the win. Good job by Dave.

Fun balanced small scenario. Germans pushed at the beginning. American bazookas couldn't hit a thing in the early half of the game. A sniper caused Recall on a key AFV near the end of the game. Played in 2.5 hours.

Came down to a close combat in the victory hex on the last turn. I had a regular halftrack, an 8-1 leader and a 4-4-7 squad in the hex. On the last American advance phase, the 9-2 and a full squad/half squad passed the PAATC and advanced into the hex.
Our analysis was that if the Americans could kill the German infantry, the HT could not control the hex because it is not devoid of enemy units.
Did not matter, the 3-2 (-2) CC roll turned out to be an 11
Interestingly, that HT had been in the victory hex for 3 turn absorbing MMG fire from the 9-2 and the crew watched a few BAZ rounds fly harmlessly overhead. TWO other nearby blazing HT were not so lucky.

Lyle played a good, patient game. Easing into the attack and then using the halftracks to surround and expose my troops and locate the bazookas. It was a close game but he had plenty left in the victory hex at game end. Fun little quick hitting scenario.
