Overview:
As the drive on Moscow slowed due to supply problems and general winter, STAVKA was given time to deploy fresh troops from other fronts. The 78th Infantry, Siberian veterans of the Mongolian frontier, were transferred 6000 miles to use skillful ambushes and delaying tactics to slow the panzer’s march on Moscow. Near the River Istra, they were finally ordered to halt and fight. The snow-covered fields and the medieval town of Istra itself would become a battlefield for several weeks. On 26th November, the 78th was renamed the “9th Guards Infantry”, but needed no special titles to display élan or heroism. Squeezing out of the pincers formed by 10th Panzer Division and 2nd SS “Das Reich”, the “marvelous Siberians” would regroup and launch a counterattack to retake the historic town.Attacker: Russian (9th Guards Infantry Division)
Defender: German (SS) (2nd SS Division "Das Reich")

2023-12-10 | (D) Klara Kundzicz | vs | Ripples | German (SS) win | I was losing pretty badly the whole game but i bounced back last turn making my oponent lose and she conceded. I really enjoyed this game and it was one of my better games. Underrated scenario that should have way more plays if i have to be honest! Forgot to start a logfile tho
2023-09-10 | (A) Klara Kundzicz | vs | Benjamin Steinberg | Russian win | My oponent forgot about a whole stack of units for two turns! I won because only because of luck
2023-05-15 | (D) Justin DiSabatino | vs | Self | German (SS) win | The Germans set up to defend the western building and central buildings heavily with a token force to delay the Russians on the eastern building if they chose to pursue it. Unable to resist the potentially easy control of the D3 building, the Russians split their forces for the Turn 3 entry to take D3 from the east while the other forces attempted to wrest control of the other buildings. The plan started out soundly, but the main Russian force could not crack the Germans in the stone buildings despite multiple high FP attempts, and the MMG malfunctioned on first use, breaking on the next turn. The LMG did the same on the second turn, leaving the main Russian force lacking SW. The German force in the east stalled and then locked the Russians in melee until the end of the scenario. It was a rough go for the Russians.
2023-04-21 | (D) Andreas R | vs | Jenny | German (SS) win
2023-03-13 | (A) Bob McKenna | vs | Robert Kroczynski | Russian win | Initial attacks stalled at all three buildings. Slow advances and flanking left and right pushed Germans back. Poor dice rolls and a change of luck in turn 4 turned the tide. Germans nearly counter attacked the center and left buildings. Melee resolved the issue.

2022-12-08 | (A) Patrick Bonner | vs | self | Russian win | The Russians really used the snow-camo to their advantage to get in close a couple times and kick the Germans out. I played this one four times, with each side getting two wins. Set-up seemed to be what determined victory.
2022-09-23 | (D) Dan Best | vs | Kermit Mullins | Russian win
2022-09-23 | (A) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | Russian win | Dan's SS rolled miserably all night long with a bunch of 11's and more 12's, which allowed the Russians to get in close and overwhelm them in CC for the win. Bad dice really decided this game.
2022-08-04 | (A) Andreas Brueckner | vs | Rick Runner | Russian win | Tough game, Russians attacked in the center. The Russian tactical reseve gained controll of Victory Building D3, Germans had uncontested control of Victory Building R2. The Victory Building in the middle witnessed several CC situations. The 9-2 making all the difference in melee, but was killed by defensive fire in the last German turn.
2022-06-15 | (A) Pascal Boileau | vs | Fred | Russian win | A nice scenario played by email. As Russian, I decided to enter in the center of the map with almost all of the OB. With the middle building in control, I used some troops to keep the ground and shifted a large number of MMC to assault the second building (the one guarded with the lower number of German MMC). At the end of turn 5 it was impossible for the Germans to take back one of the 2 buildings invested by the Russian troops.
2022-06-13 | (D) Bob McKenna | vs | Robert Kroczynski | German (SS) win | Russian rolled up the east flank and ceased a VC building.. The Germans re formed a defensive line and defended the middle building. A final attempt to reach the final building stalled. The Russian could only get one VC building in control. The game ended with the Germans holding the middle building. High morale troops tough to break on both sides. Russian was left with little room to maneuver. Fun scenario.

2022-01-18 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Jim Liang | German (SS) win (VASL Log) | The Russians attacked through the center of the board while holding the largest possible force in reserve hoping to split the German forces in two. The German fire on Turns 1 and 2 was devastating. At the end of Turn 2 the Russians had only 3 Good Order full squads, 5 broken half squads, a LMG and a broken MMG on the board. The Germans had to keep their forces dispersed to prevent the oncoming Russian reinforcements from easily gaining a Victory building. However, with the original force so depleted, the Russian reinforcements entered behind the original force. The second attack made much better progress, driving into the center Victory building. But this building was defended with the SS 9-2 SMC and 2 MMCs armed with a LMG and MMG each. The high morale, one bolstered with the 9-2 SMC kept them in good order throughout the assault. One Russian MMC was able to flank the German troops and gained control of one building on the German right flank. But the SS troops in the center survived PBF, DC, and CC keeping control to the end.

2021-06-26 | (A) Jim Liang | vs | Bradley Davis | Russian win | Germans deployed around the objectives. I kept 4 squads and 8-1 in tactical reserve. 1 squad covered row T. Another squad and MMG covered row Q. These two units kept 3 German squads to the west. 1 squad with LMG covered row N. Another squad with LMG covered row I. The remaining 6 squads, 9-1, and 8-0 with DC assaulted building L6, eventually capturing it. The 8-0 was wounded during the attack and 1.5 squads were lost. The Germans in the east were drawn to the battle in the center. On turn 3, my tactical reserve entered from the east and captured building D3, unopposed. My opponent conceded after that, believing he would be unable to recapture either building before game end to deny me the victory.

2021-02-07 | (A) Jonathan Townsend | vs | Myself | Russian win | The Russians pulled off the full allowance for Tactical Reserve including the HMG and DC and 9-1 leader. Ignoring the left most building they swarmed the closer northern one with all the rest of their units and had cleared it by turn 4 with good strength remaining. The Germans were hampered by uncertainty as to where the Reserve will strike and ultimately both the left and right Objective buildings were not strongly enough defended to keep off the Reserve. The Reserve came in on the right because the Objective was closer and they quickly overwhelmed it. A relief force to the right from the German left, and a counterattack in the with the fallen back defenders of the middle just did not have enough time/force to make it. A good Russian win, but not with two Melees that went on for 4 or more Player turns - so some risk and nailbiting. All in all we had three Melees and each very important. The last was the German's ultimate last turn forlorn hope...
2021-01-03 | (A) Tony Fermendzin | vs | Arshish Kapadia | Russian win | The Germans set up forward forcing the Russians to fight their way onto the map. The Russians entered in the center/west. The Germans refused to budge in front of the Russian onslaught and the Russians were able to get into CC and kill two German squads along with their 8-0 leader, at the cost of two Russian squads. An end run by the Russian was able to grab the undefended victory building in the south/center, with the remainder of the Russians pushing east towards the victory building in the north. Russian reinforcements tipped the scale and the Russians were able to take the second required building after an unlucky FPF shot left the German 9-2 leader, squad and MMG broken. After a last ditch counter attack by the Germans on the northern-most victory building fell short, we called the game. A tense and exciting game!!

2020-11-04 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Laurent Tisseyre | Russian win | The Siberians launched their main assault from the North while a small group progressed through the Western buildings. Despite accurate shots from the Germans, the Siberians turned out to be unstoppable never breaking morale. Bloody closed combats took their toll on both German and Russian units. A first objective fell on Russian hands. The German regrouped to defend the other two objectives expecting reinforcements from the East but were still too scattered to stop the Russian advance. The reinforcements came instead from the North. The Germans conceded on turn 4 with the Russians in position to get the second objective.
2020-10-17 | (D) Kevin Sanders | vs | Jason Littleton | German (SS) win | Solid closer than expected game from a new player.
2020-08-18 | (A) David Garvin | vs | Loic Gourdon | Russian win | Wow. What a match. I held back 3 squads, 2 LMGs and an 8-1 for the turn 3 reinforcements. This was to keep some of his forces off to the west, away from my goal of the north and eastern building, and to keep my options open. I ended up reinforcing my success in the middle and Loic wisely mounted a counter attack that ended up taking the building to the east. I had to counter-counter attack on the final turn. I broke one squad and sent it out of the building and ended up going into CC with 2 x 468s and an 8-0 with 2 of my own 458s. I had luckily pinned one of his squads, setting up for the ambush! I rolled a 1, but Loic pulled off a 2: no ambush. To win, I had to eliminate all his guys. With a 1:2, a 4 (reduction) wouldn't do it: I needed a 2 or 3. I rolled 1, 2! WIN (I had squads elsewhere in the building) Loic rolled on a 1:2 (One squad pinned), and he rolled: 1, 2! Incredible ending! Loic is a new player, but he "gets it". What a pleasure to play with such a capable and eager new player!
2020-07-04 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Sam Belcher | German (SS) win | Russian initial assault was on the German left flank. Germans re positioned the MMG and ended up breaking 2 squads and a leader. Russians went into CC, losing 1.5 squads and 2.5 turns. In the end, the Russians ran out of time and could not gain a second building.

2020-06-19 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Dave Mareske | German (SS) win | Russian attempt to outflank the German defense from the West had too far to drive to reach a victory building. The Russian reserve force entered on Turn 3 with the center building as the objective. In the end, the Russian center assault failed leaving the Russians in control of only 1 building.

2017-12-19 | (D) Scott Sherer | vs | D. Bruce Weston | Russian win | Played this one with full ASL rules as I am teaching a co-worker the game and we decided to step up from ASLSK to ASL. Gave the Germans 6 dummy ? counters since they would set up concealed on board, but ignored the SSR about their increased broken morale. Called SSR#1 full winter camouflage, but kept the no FFMO. Probably made it a bit too easy for the Russians as they could assault move next to the Germans without losing their concealment, but it played pretty well considering I was the more experienced player as the Germans. The Russians won by capturing two of the three buildings, one of which was made easier by the MMG with the 9-2 leader rolling a 12 on one turn followed by a 6 on its repair in the subsequent RPh. Good learning experience for my friend...he's ready to go full ASL and we are going to try Gavin Take next!

2017-06-24 | (A) JP Laurio | vs | Russian win
2017-05-14 | (A) Seumas Hoskins | vs | Dean | Russian win | The German setup was spread among the three Victory buildings. Russians pushed with everything right in the middle, keeping 4 squads and the DC in reserve. A hesitant German held most of his shots allowing a concealed Russian advance into the building lines when they overwhelmed his forces there. Turn 3 saw the Tactical reserves arrive in the SE corner effectively sneaking right into the building with a dash. The DC attempt was a dud, but the following Russian attacks quickly mopped up the eastern building. The game ended after turn 4 when the Germans had only 2 squads and a heroic leader left (one squad being berzerk and charging a forward russian line)
2017-05-13 | (D) Louis Langdeau | vs | Andrew S | Russian win | I set up pretty far forward of the middle building, putting my 9-2 in front with the MMG. My plan was to either force Andy out to the sides, or cause him to take enough casualties on entry that I could blunt his offensive with my reserves. Andy decided to take the chance, and pushed right up the middle with the majority of his force, leaving the maximum in reserve so I couldn't redeploy that much. My shots weren't great, and Andy did some good sequencing to keep me from getting my best shots where I wanted them. I pushed the rest of my troops into the massive melees that developed, but they ground on for too long, and eventually I lost too much. Once his reserves came in, it was game over.
2017-04-08 | (D) James Everett | vs | Russian | German (SS) win | Russians entered to far away from the objectives. This allowed the SS to set up a line of defense. Despite eliminating the initial SS units contacted the Russians could not pierce the line of defense in time.
2017-03-05 | (D) Bob Davis | vs | Paul | In progress
2016-12-27 | (A) Jeff B | vs | Bronson Barnhart | Russian win | Germans forgot about Turn 3 Russian reserves and went all-in trying to repel the flanking western invaders, leaving the northern and eastern buildings ripe for the pickings with little chance of getting them back once captured.

2016-04-17 | (D) Tom Abromaitis | vs | Matt Russman | Russian win | Looked all but hopeless for my opponent midgame, but I left the door open and after a long melee in the central VC building, on the last turn a leader and a squad rushed into the West VC building to take the win. Tense game. Fun. I should have garrisoned the VC building better, but still. Good game.

2012-07-25 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | German (SS) win | The tactics adopted by the russians turned out to be a nightmare. There was 3 assault groups, one making a frontal attack from the north that was utterly destroyed by the precise shot of the germans, a second attack that bypassed german resistance and captured one building, and the third trying a frontal assault from the east but without success and many losses. A deadly day for russians. Casualties : -Russian: 9 squads, 1 halfsquad, 2 leaders. -German: 2 squads, 1 leader
2012-05-14 | (A) fabrizio da pra | vs | Alberto Da Pra | German (SS) win
2012-05-04 | (A) Russell Dewhurst | vs | Gordon | German (SS) win | My Russians tried to assault all three of the target buildings. In the centre, there was lots of covering fire that held me back, but by turn 5 a double-one roll in the building got me my only building control. The demo charge on the left almost got used successfully, but not quite. The building on the right was a close run thing, but an ambush in the final turn's CC wiped me out. Lots of CC in this game. In retrospect I should have concentrated more on just two of the targets.
2012-01-28 | (D) Stefan C | vs | osterhausm | German (SS) win | Russian reserves all enter on the east on turn 3, Germans play avoid the Russian kill stacks on the west (also concentrated). Russians all cx dash into close combat to try to control their second building on the last turn, can't make the final dice roll. Hard to break units in this one without a large FP concentration relative to the amount of units on the board.
