Overview:
Following a valiant defence of Isurava Village in late August, the Australians withdrew south, relentlessly pursued by the Japanese. The Japanese Nankai Shitai (South Seas Force) under the command of Major General Horii, were eager to inflict a devastating defeat on the Australians. Isurava had hurt Maroubra Force, but it was not broken. Brigade Hill is an impressive mountain ridge roughly halfway along the Kokoda Trail. Mission Ridge extends from its north face like a nose. The eastern face is very steep whilst the western face is only slightly less so as it drops down to the Fagume River. It was here that Brigadier Arnold Potts, Commander of Maroubra Force, was ordered to stand and fight the advancing Japanese.Attacker: Australian (2/14th and 2/16th Battalions, 21st Brigade)

2023-05-21 | (D) Michael Rodgers | vs | Erik Lindblad | Japanese win | Japanese only lightly defended the center hill. Used the other hills to cover the center. Japanese eliminated the Aussie reinforcements.
2023-04-15 | (D) nathan wegener | vs | James Lancaster | Japanese win | Quickly turned into a smoke fest with little damage the first couple of turns. Japs were able to break enough Aussies in the woods with the mortars to keep them at bay. The rear attack charged at the lightly defended back line. Looked like an Aussie win when the HS ambush failed completely near the top of the CC4 hill but some quick maneuvering by the Jap reinforcements recaptured CC4 and defending AA8 saving the back two hills. 2022-06-24 | (D) David Ramsey | vs | Gerard Burton | Australian win | Came down to the last CC although the Australians had the better chances. Great PTO scenario for tactical choices.
2021-10-17 | (A) Shane Pask | vs | Australian win | When Sgt Smith and 2 squads were killed on turn 2 in CC, the west flank was broken and the situation looked bad. However good rolls (good tactics?) allowed Sgt Skinner from HQ to clear Sgt Kiro and his MMG crew from hill 507. Stubborn Jap resistance pushed him off the hill after claiming it and the Japs reclaimed it on turn 6 with a mtr HS. Prep fire broke this HS however and allowed me to claim victory by advancing in unopposed.

2020-11-29 | (A) Ulric Schwela | vs | Stefano Cuccurullo | Japanese win | A tremendous seesaw battle, which saw fortunes change every turn. It continued to a real nail-biter in the last turn's AFPh! The hills ended 2-2 for a Japanese win, each hill being a separate micro battle throughout the whole game, with virtually no interaction between them. Biggest mistake for me as Australian was insufficient perimeter control, meaning I probably lost 7-8 squads for FtR through the scenario, which would have been useful. OTOH the Ozzies were mostly lucky in CC, avoiding ambush and rolling low. Multiple options and good replayability.
2020-09-20 | (A) Vic Lauterbach | vs | JM | Australian win | A real test of intestinal fortitude! Jim set up strong on the front and back hills, leaving the middle one (502) undefended except for an HIP HS. Lots of ambushes and bloody HtH CC as expected. I got the win but it wasn't easy. Good balance.

2020-04-30 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Magnus Rimvall | Japanese win | I don't understand the strategy I saw in some AARs that lightly defended the central hill. To my mind, this is the most important hill on the board. Aussies attacked straight up the gut and in the seemingly empty east. This is where my HIP unit was, but he was very uninspired - striping and breaking his LMG. The Aussies eliminated him next turn, gave up the frontal assault, and swept in force from the east. Turn 3 was deadly for them though, losing 1.5 squads trying to take the central hill, and losing a reinforcing squad and 8-1 to CC in the southwest. The Japanese did not go unmolested, losing a squad, an 8-0, and a disabled MMG, while their holds on the central and southeast hill were becoming tenuous. A smoked in Aussie MMG and a KIA in Turn 4 helped the cause however, but both victory hexes had been subject to encirclement. After this is was mostly just a matter of who would be luckiest, and that ended up being the Japanese. Pretty good intro-to-PTO scenario.

2018-07-22 | (D) Ron Garcia | vs | Darryl M. | Japanese win
2018-06-30 | (A) Paul Works | vs | Brian Roundhill | Australian win | I like this scenario a lot. There are several interesting options for both the Australians and Japanese - allowing for repeated play. Fun.
2017-05-31 | (A) Jason Wert | vs | Gary Bartlett | Japanese win | Outstanding scenario with Gary and real fun to play setup and conditions. High recommend with multiple options for the attack. The lead hill cost the Aussies many casualties, but the second hill would be the defeat after two costly infiltrations on CC.

2014-02-23 | (D) Stanley Neo | vs | Ian P | Australian win | Malaya Madness 2014
2013-10-06 | (D) Andy Beaton | vs | Richard Hooks | Japanese win | Australians kept getting pushed off the big hill by mg fire from across the valley, and took one hill from the flank but lost it again to a Japanese counterattack. I did very well on the Japanese ambush rolls throughout.
2013-05-31 | (A) Ian Morris | vs | Simon Staniforth | Japanese win
2012-05-25 | (D) Michael Rodgers | vs | Bruno L'Archeveque | Australian win | Good challenging scenario with several options for both sides.
2012-05-19 | (A) Michael Rodgers | vs | Jim Suderman | Australian win | Challenging scenario.
2011-08-25 | (D) Paul Jones | vs | Craig Benn | Japanese win | Fun little PTO tourney size scenario. Came down to final CC - always a good sign.
