During April 1944 a series of attacks by the Red Army in the Iasśi sector was aimed at capturing the strategically important region. The German and Romanian forces successfully defended throughout the month of April. The attack aiming at Targul Frumos was the final attempt by the Red Army to achieve its goal of having a springboard into Romania for a summer offensive. Before they could establish any initiative, the Germans counterattacked with reserve Panzer Divisions. . . .This features a German panzergrenadier counterattack in Romania, against Soviet infantry supported by an antitank gun and a pair of AA cannon. The eponymous hare is Vasily Zaitsev of Stalingrad fame, here directing the AA unit. The Soviets are falling back to defend several buildings, while the Germans are pressed for time to take their scattered objectives.

My hip trap was foiled with Trevor's skilled searching and he then accidentally found my AT gun by walking a squad into the woods (after surviving 3 -2 shots from covering infantry.
With no real AT assets and no hip trap left I only lasted until turn 4.

VASL-Ladder Game, great little scenario. Luck was with the Germans as they surrounded the last building with AFV's and encircled & broke the Russian defenders. Recommended.

Ran out of time and had to stage a last turn scramble for the last building, in which I took too many risks and got burned by the dice.

Jerry and I replayed this one with me attacking as the Germans. Turn 1 went great for the Germans as I armor assaulted and took good ground and disposed of all three of his dummy stacks. My PzIII cutoff some of his troops from the victory building and forced him to take the long way around. Unfortunately, starting on Turn 2, the Russian sniper took over the game. He rolled a 1 and moved to a stack of 2 squads and an 8-1 leader. My random selection roll was triple 5 so a dead 8-1 leader, 2 broken squads, then a LLMC casualty reduced one to a half-squad. The middle of my attack was gone just like that. Jerry got about a 7 or 8 shot ROF tear with the AA gun and took out two (of my four) turn 3 reinforcement halftracks (and then their crews and PRC squads) and still had rate when the carnage was finished. Then the sniper returned from his smoke break and proceeded to wound 2 of my other 3 leaders and break one more squad.
The Germans conceded after Turn 4. I had some squads into the 3rd victory building but no leadership and precious little time to even attempt an assault on the final building, let alone clear bldg 3. I also forgot to search and Jerry had an HIP halfsquad in building one. Good win for Jerry and overdo considering my luck against him in the last 3 games. His setup was solid with the AA guns in the woods covering the reinforcement entry area and the bottom two victory buildings. A fun little scenario and well worth a play.

Good scenario - lots of options for defender not much time for attacker. Made too many mistakes.

Lots of excitement. HOB galore with a hero, berserkers, and a couple battle hardening results. The Russian HIP unit and AT gun surprised the Germans and delayed them just enough to hold onto the 4th building. Nice scenario with lots of ground for the Germans to cover.
