For the American 30th Infantry Division, Operation PLUNDER commenced on 24 March with a relatively quiet crossing of the Rhine. The division’s first main objective, the village of Spellen, was quickly taken by two of its regiments which attacked the German defenders from opposite directions. In the early morning of 25 March, 30th Division moved eastward, now in mutual support with light tanks and tank destroyers. They met only modest resistance from scattered German rear guards, and the lead units made good progress. The division’s three regiments now separated to assault different targets. Gahlen, a village centered on the axis of advance, was tasked to the 119th Regiment. However, the good mood of its soldiers changed drastically when the capture of troops from Panzer-Division 116 was reported. It seemed that “Old Hickory” had met some old friends from its Normandy days. 119th Regiment started its approach towards Gahlen only to be beaten to the punch by panzergrenadiers from Panzer-Division 116, which entered the village first. With some frustration, the lead elements of the 118th had to stand by and watch as more armored vehicles, among them two Panthers, followed…

It's not often that I can claim the dice ended a game prematurely but that's what happened here. Within two consecutive player-turns I managed to malf 3 AFV MAs and 2 AFV MGs (all on boxcars, no IF involved). With a further tank lost to US fire, the Germans had virtually nothing left so we called it on GT3.

The US were cautious in early stages but we're behind the CVP count from T1 with some accurate German shooting; nip and tuck until T3 when a Panther got a low odds advancing fire shot on an M24 and the Pz IV got a crit hit on the Sherman 105, on T4 the US tried to flank a Panther with the gyro Sherman 76 but missed their shots and subsequently got taken out...CVP cap reached on T5 with more tank losses for US.

Draw
This was a bloody one with my Americans being probably overly aggressive and Guy losing tanks with some minor errors and bold defense.
We started German 6 with the Americans holding 5 buildings, in CC for a 5th and threatening a 7th.
However the Germans had ammassed 35CVP on the Americans and had accumulated 32 against them and had only 1 Panther left.
A disasterous rally phase for the Germans saw them lose 3 CVP to boxcars moving them to 35 leaving both sides no real margin for error.
Rather than skulk back, Guy opted to push in with the Panther for the CVP win and gave me a very low percentage side shot where I proptly rolled a 3 for the hit and got the subsequent kill. That pushed the Germans over the CVP which would allow the Americans to run for it and try to retain the victory.
We instead opted to play it and see if the Americans could take the two buildings they needed to get to 7. Americans managed to do that but only by losing 2 tanks in the process.
In the end we both had well over 40 CVP and Americans in possession of 7 buildings.
Called it a draw as the Germans probably could have positioned to keep the Americans out of 1 building but with significant opportunity for casualties.
Fun scenario, I would probably be a bit less agressive with my tanks if I played again. They have pretty limited smoke other than the sM but with the good infantry smoke and sM I could have attacked a bit more cautiously.

Interesting scenario with lots of toys for the US side. I was able to dispatch the Stugs early. I also made a trailbreak through the woods at top of board that allowed me to flank the second cluster of bldgs. Needs a coordinated armor/infantry assault w/ lots of smoke mortar and smoke usage. CC really went my way as well which helped.

This is an hell of scenario, it's going to become a classic soon.
In our Game The American inflicted 40 CVP on the German at the end of 5th turn, but was hedging towards defeat with 32 CVP. With no more Gyros and 76L functioning the last Panther went on wild hunt, it was a tense end game, with the attacking side defending itself. The Pnther inflicted 1 more CVP and went down to a capture PSK shot manned by a leader and an hero.

yanks took some tank losses in first 2 turns from panther across the stream while clearing the first village... responding to this I laid down a larg eamount of WP and smoke markers to cover the push across the bridge with the inf and 2 tanks, M10s and the 9-1 leader took 3 tanks right while hovering with armour in the middle.. panthers and stug got caught between 2 lines of fire when the flank attack landed in turn 5 german armour falls and the way is open for the yank inf to push into a few obj buildings at edge of town... on the left a single squad with leader flanked wide and grabbed another building in the german rear....
interesting game, good scenario, cant give much advice as I thought I had lost but ended up winning!

Derek set up a masterful defence, seemingly covering all the angles with his AFV'S. I just couldn't seem to threaten the Panthers and one by one mine went down and I lost through the CVP cap on T6. Interesting game but very hard on the US we decided IF the Germans set up properly...

Played this one as the Americans. My plan was to use the approach through the village, use overwhelming force to stomp the German token force, then SMOKE the other bank and get across. Big problem is that the German Panthers are extremely powerful and do scare the shit out of the US at long range. The US cannot afford to lose many tanks early because of the CVP cap their SMOKE making ability etc. Second big problem in my game: The German "token force" was indeed a token force in number, but it managed to beat the crap out of me breaking the multiple squads repeatedly along with the 9-2. I still had no US infantry across the stream at the start of turn 4 and would have bet that the game was lost. At least it was out of the question to conquer enough buildings. In the end I managed to win by CVP cap and beat the Germans.

The Americans securely contained matters on their own side and, with the help of smoke, stormed over the bridge en masse on turn 1. Turn 2 saw both Panthers go down after some sacrifice of American armor. From there it was a race to the CVP cap, with the remaining American force overwhelming the Germans. The Americans cannot afford to lose too many tanks early so I could see how this one could go either way.

Americans could not get into a position to lay smoke or set down fire without being zapped by Panthers at long range. CVP cap hit by turn 4. Feels like a tough one for the Americans.
