British planners desired to keep German units in the Ortona region “occupied” so they would be unavailable to reinforce the Cassino area. V Corps Maj. Gen. Allfrey decided to carry out this mission with green troops who would be provided with combat experience by attacking the fortified German lines. Against the wishes of its commander, the 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade was selected for the task of assaulting a ridge line beyond the dry Riccio River. They would be supported by armor from the veteran Three Rivers Tanks.
Attacker: Canadian (A Company, The Perth Regiment, 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade & A Squadron, 12th Canadian Armoured (Three Rivers) Regiment)
Defender: German (Bataillon III, Fallschirmjäger-Division 1)
I tried to move down the board edge with the Canadians and have the tanks harass the other edge
poor judgment - tanks were cooked and the men were trapped - hands up was my only solution

First mortar shot was a critical hit and managed to unhinge the initial German trench line. Canadian infantry swarmed the south edge and would ultimately exit 16 VP. The Tanks would come in at Q1 and go up the dry stream only to run right into the 50L. One Sherman was knocked out, but the the gun MALF'd and the other 3 moved around and up over the hill. Fast moving German squads repositioned to take panzerfaust shots. They would succeed in destroying two more Shermans, but the final Sherman managed to exit for the win.

Jason correctly decided the decisive point was/is at the open ground on the way to the exit hexes on the south side of the board, and had both his MMG and ATG in position to mass fire on the narrow approach. That worked well for him. I managed to break both positions but had insufficient forces remaining to get through the exit, which was guarded by his reinforcing 8-1,548,LMG. He knocked out two of my tanks and I malfed the MA on the third, which got PF'd at the exit hex. The fourth tank laid fire and smoke on the hilltop and was not in position to exit.
Jason and I played with the German balance due to the pro-CAN rating on ROAR. The additional squad made a difference but I think it was his good setup and play which won him the game. We agreed that a German player who gets caught defending the woods on the initial approach won't have enough to stop the Canadians from exiting. An experienced player won't need the balance to win as the Germans, but newer players probably will.

I was on a business trip to Dallas and reached out to the Texas ASL'er to see if I could get a game in. Arlen was kind enough to meet me at the hotel for a game. This was the first time we met. Fun scenario. Thanks Arlen for the Texas hospitality.

The German player has a difficult decision to make regarding the set up for the lone AT gun. If the gun is placed without good fields of fire against the Shermans, or if it or its crew are knocked out early, the British armor will steamroller the few infantry defenders remaining.

I split my forces and got a lot of smoke to get over the stream. One force went over the hill from the back and the other forced down the road. The AT gun took out 2 of my tanks before I could kill it and I won my just getting the 2nd tank off the board to cover the VP margin

Went for a left wing push, couldn't break the MMG and AT gun guarding that flank. Conceded after I lost most of my infantry.

Delayed a turn being bluffed by dummies, split up my tank forces which was a mistake - my surviving tanks were in a position to exit, but not support the infantry getting through

German player lost the ATG on illegal setup. Gotta remember that Level1 limitation.
