XIX Mechanized Crops had done its best to contain the Germans of Army Group South and was now ordered to form part of the northern pincer of a counterattack around an 1,800 square mile triangle formed by the towns of Lutsk, Dubno, and Brody. Due to losses and a lack of reliable communications, the Soviets only had the equivalent of an understrength division available; however, when commanders expressed concerns about this, commissars remained unsympathetic and reminded the leaders that the cost of non-compliance was personally high. With that dubious encouragement, Soviet tanks advanced toward Dubno with only a vague idea of their objectives, and who would be on their flanks.

Soviets steamrolled down the left overwhelming the defence on the hill for minimal loss. The contribution of the three German guns to the defence was limited to immobilising a single BT tank (and that was achieved by the howitzer crew in CC). I also entered the German tanks on the less optimum east edge which limited their ability to get into the battle while the Soviet attack was well coordinated so I couldn't find an opening to launch an effective armoured counterattack. Conceded in German turn 5 by which time my opponent held six buildings and it was obvious I lacked the strength to counterattack.

Fun Scenario. German won when they managed to launch an all out AFV attack on Russian infantry in turn 3 when Russian amour had overcomitted themselves.

Russians attacked up their left flan with a slow and steady drive to the Town
My early blocking German forces failed to stop him
My armour attack on his flank (very classic to do this in this game) fizzled with some nice shots from him
My re-deploy in the town failed to stop his entry
Really a nice three part game

Great fun plenty of early war armour to move about, the heavily armoured KVs and T34s you would think should dominate the battlefield but it doesn’t always play as you expect and current balance reflects this. Tough for the Russian infantry without the close protection of those tanks to get into town and take the necessary buildings

Germans setup with a very heavy western defense, with only a couple squads in the east. I figured if I was going to get beat it would be by making him take the long way. A very enjoyable feature of this scenario though is simultaneous setup, so Scott had no idea of my setup when he planned his attack, which just so happened to be heavy in the east. My guns up on the hill rained early destruction, taking out two of the lightly armored BT-2As on Turn 1, leaving the third without a platoon (and it would fail movement rolls for at least the next three turns). Turn 2 saw two of the T-25 M32s go down, but the Germans lost their Pz IIF to a sneaky shot. Turn 3 saw the only radio-equipped tanks the Russians had (the KV-1s) move up on the hill to harass the gunners. They succeeded in taking one out. Meanwhile German armor reinforcement entered from the north, just in time to setup shop on the other side of the stream before the Russian advance could jump off. German infantry had gradually repositioned to meet the challenge as well and were mostly in the middle of the board. A berserker ended up sucking up a lot of German firepower, eventually returning to normal in Turn 4 after dispatching a key Pz IIIF who was parked on the bridge. But the Russians lost a KV-1 to the remaining gun, who had found a HEAT round, and two other Russian tanks were immobilized, and another recalled due to a MALFd MA. So things were looking quite grim for the Russians at this point as the Germans held a 4:2 advantage in functioning AFVs. Turn 5 was a great swing for the Russians however as they took out 3/4 of the remaining German armor, but not without losing the last of their light armor to an ATR shot. By this time the German infantry was holed up nicely protecting their buildings, having only lost one. And when the last Russian AFV MALFd its gun it was game over. Very fun scenario which I would gladly play again.

Very enjoyable scenario. I figured Jeff would heavily defend the shortest route to stone buildings (and the extra benefit of having the commanding heights). I also figured he's have AT assets on said commanding heights and that was correct also. My plan was to send some of my up-armored AFVs up to the hill to suppress any guns up there and take my attack around the flank to try to get enough buildings using the clusters around 76Q9 and 76U5. However, I didn't get my suppressor tanks in place soon enough and thought I had a better chance of getting some of my thin-skinned armor across the plains. As Jeff mentioned, four Russian tanks died on the first two turns to thwart that approach. The other thing I should have done was try to get some firepower in position to interdict 76 hexrow O to prevent the shifting of the German forces to meet the attack. As such, Jeff was able to bring enough troops in to prevent me from capturing enough stone buildings, and when my final tank malf'ed his MA in the top of Turn 6, there was absolutely no chance of pulling out a miracle. Was disappointed in myself for not even getting the Russians in place to try a Human Wave.

Excellent scenario! I concentrated on the East flank and made good progress early on, taking out the 105 and one of the 37mm ATG by T2. Even so it was close at the end and I only got the required buildings on the last turn. Worth a play!

Got one of the T34's with the 105 before it was killed, one KV went home with a broken gun, the rest of the scenario was trying to stop the Russian infantry, kill the weak tanks and stay out of the way of his invulnerable tanks. Getting a T34 in CC in turn 5 put it out of reach for him even though he had 3 buildings and was ready to take a couple more

This was my 4th Round scenario during the 2017 Kansas City ASL Group March Madness Tournament. It was also my 8th game in a whirlwind 3 days of ASL. So I was a bit punch drunk going into the fight against a great opponent. Jeff's 105 managed to knock out both of my KV-I's and his 37L AT Guns cost me some other tanks as I streamed up the center of the map. I felt like Dirty Harry in that movie "The Gauntlet" minus Sondra Locke of course. I managed to secure 4 buildings in the town, but could not hold on the 5th building and Jeff had destroyed my armor assets...so it was a clear German victory!

The Russian did most of the work by breaking three MA of their best tanks.
My plan defend the shortest path to the village while having the guns covering the hill.
I was sure some tanks and infantry would go up there searching for my guns.
My first two guns, the 105 broke very early and with no effect on the Russian tanks. the third one was able to destroy 3 tankettes on the hill and immobilize a T-34 that was parked next to it.
An ATR was able to immobilize a BT and shock another and killing it in CC soon after.
Another BT was killed by the PzIIIf wich missed also a couple of nice immobilization shots on a KV before being destroyed.
With the two KV with MA disable, one T34 destroyed in a cellar the other immobilized, two BT destroyed the third immobilized and three out of five tankettes destroyed I was able to kill most of the infantry with my 5 remaining tanks.
A nice result considering I never found a single special ammunition, especially the H6 of the two 37L guns which are very important to stop the four big Russian tanks.

Couldn't overcome the German Defence, certainly the KVs and T34s breaking 3 of the 4 MA helped the nazi cause. Nice scenario with high replayability.
