Towards the end of the Russian winter, German commanders in the east belived Soviet efforts would wane as the ground turned to mud. However, Marshal Zhukov mustered six tank armies within the 1st Ukrainian Front and, on March 4, launched them with the town of Tarnopol as a key objective. The "Mud Offensive" was successful and 200,000 Germans under General Hube became trapped, victim's of Hitler's no retreat order. Fortunately, by early April the Germans managed to skillfully extract themselves from Hube's Pocket. The 5,000 defenders of Tarnopol were not so lucky and they oud not free themselves from the Soviet siege. German armor units were tasked to break the stranglehold but received an unexpected guest. . ."Joseph Stalin" tanks armed with 122mm guns.

A king of the hill style scenario and a lot of fun for bothsides. Highlights of our game included a Russian 527 squad immobilizing a tiger with CCRF, IS2 getting a kill on the second tiger in BFF. A lot fun overall and highly recommended.

Fun game that came right down to the last CC. Hot and cold dice streaks for both sides, but my hot streak came at the crucial last turn.

I couldn't find a way through my opponent's excellent defence as the Russians. Rather than defending in front of the hill, he concentrated his forces on the edge of the hill, and often one hex back from there. Which meant that I couldn't hit him from range, and got hit with PBF as soon as I climbed to Level 1. It also meant that all of his units were close to the four victory buildings and were able to defend in strength when I eventually got close.
I tried to counter this but surrounding the hill and looking for weak spots, but this left my units too spread out, and inadequate to advance when they took casualties - which they did. I also planned to use smoke, but the Mortar ht got hit by his AT Gun and my Stummel malf'ed on its first shot. The IS-2s placed in the middle of the village also proved impervious to any attacks, swinging round to knock out a panther with a lucky shot when it attempted to creep up from behind.
So all in all not my finest hour, but a good game all the same.

German attack came in from the north with the Panthers attacking from the south. The Russians took down all the Panthers and after four I conceded. Russian victory.

Just finished the scenario. I cannot say whether it is a nice scenario cause on Turn 2 the 57LL "ambush" an aggressive Tiger on the rear during the German in the MPh, then in the Prep Fire the AT Gun kept rate for 11 (eleven!!!) shots: SPW 251/2 KIAed, SPW 251/9 KIAed, HS went HoB creat a Hero then HS KIAed, Hero KIAed. Too much, honestly too much. Maybe I will play this scenario again, not possible for me to judge after such lucky streak.

I setup the Russians too much forward. The German troops decided to launch a combined attack both from the North and the South. I tried to retreat methodically in the direction of the VC buildings but it was too late. German AFV moved unharmed inflicting major losses to the Russians. After a fierce resistance, they conceded at the fifth turn with only one MMC in good order and the two IS with malfunctioned MA...

My attack sliced Alessandro defences, he had 3 squads act as speedbump but they didn't slow me a bit. They were crushed and after that one lucky mortar shot crumbled his center, and that gave way to multiple failure to rout that deprived him of three squads in the early part of the game. At the end of turn 3 it was all over, his ISs in flames and the GUN broken during an overrun, he lost 6 squads to failure to rout. Germans lost one HS and no AFV.
His mistake was tring to defend too much estate. slowing germans is due and expected, but the core of defence has to be on the hill.
Nice Scenario btw.

I got my infantry up to the center on turn 1. I have several large-FP attacks that failed to break his units and that delayed me a turn. My armor got in a shoot-out with his IS-2. Result: one of my Panthers recalled by a sniper (oops, that'll teach me) and another burning. I eventually killed his Stalin tank, and burned a couple T34s with PFs, but just did not have the oompf (and MF) to get to the VC buildings at the end. I have a couple chances, but well played by Rodney.

Hook attack around my right flank with the Tigers and 2/3 of the squads. Pushed aggressively and was able to reach the hill in turn 2. The Panthers and remaining squads struggled but in turn 3 I rushed the IS2 on my left flank which isolated much of his infantry defending the forward building. One Tiger got ROF breaking the defenders in the town center which allowed my LH flank to advance risk free. Rolled a couple critical hits with PF/PSK that wiped out the two big pigs and sealed my victory. StL2021

Yet another scenario from the pack that is very pro-defender. Worried about side shots on my armor and lack of time, I tried to push a square peg into a round hole from the north. Terrible dice caused much breaking early, and a well-placed AT gun took out many vehicles later. Failed tank shots, point-blank PSK shots, and PAATCs couldn't even take down one of the IS-2s. When the highly superfluous Russian reinforcements arrived I called it a day.

Enjoyed this one but came up a bit short. My MRT HT did not have any smoke which hurt greatly. However this unit won several awards by shrugging off many attacks as it charged to the center of the village solo to interfere with the Russian plan to fall back to the VC buildings. Numerous attempts to take out the HT with light arms failed as did a squad and leader that was only able to jam the treads before succumbing to the AA machine gun and sending the leader back to training school. Got some units behind the defense but the IS2s were too tough to stop and saved the day for the Russians.
