After several days of struggle, the City of Aachen-one of the first major towns to be threatened on the Western Front-was now completely enveloped. The veteran US 1st Infantry Division had approached from the south, while the 30th Infantry Division, a National Guard Unit known as "Old Hickory," had done so from the north. Five kilometers north of Aachen, the town of Wurselen was one of the few supply routes still open for the Aachen Garrison. Fighting was particularly fierce in the northern section of town, around the critical rail and road links. The 30th was pushing hard and the panzergrenadiere and panzers from Panzer-Division 116 "Windhund" (Greyhounds) responded to the pressure.

Though US have good firepower and you try to flank and surround - really really hard to dig the Germans out

I lost too much force by turn 3 - infantry on the northern flank pushing into CC7 building, and 3 tanks pushing from the west. I had a flanking force coming in from the south as well, but in hindsight it would have been better placed elsewhere - either a stronger western or northern push.

The Americans had pushed to far at the beginning of the scenario, and lost a good bunch of squads when the German reinforcements surrounded them...Nice Scenario, that allow both players to defend and attack.

I bagged the on map Americans on turn 1, they advanced too much and were encircled and routed (failing it) by my armor and infantry. I retreated slowly but some counterattack drove Americans out of the victory buildings.
Nice scenario.

Bitter Ender 2022 open Play.
This was the craziest game I have ever played and with Mr. Flanagan, the most fun. Anthony and I have been friends for decades and I always look forward to our games. So after years of not playing, it was a great pleasure to play this loud mouth again. We diced for side and we used the same dice. These dice, seemingly only rolled 2 or 3 for both of us. If this was a play-test we would have thrown out the results because it was such a rollercoaster ride. As it was, it came down to the last CC of the game. Big Fun!

ROAR currently has this 24-10 pre German so a tough test for the Americans and so it proved. The outer buildings were cleared by T3 leaving another 3 turns to assault the stone building VC area manned by those tough 8 moral troops, including the reinforcements. I had though largely kept the initial on board forces out of any main thrust up to this point (I figured if they go down early you are highly unlikely to win as the Americans) and as they came into the game, they were able to set up some limited encirclement shots to the Germans disadvantage. A slow grind in, lots of Smoke use helped by a mild breeze springing up, and decided in the final half turn with 2 Close Combats the Americans winning both although holding in Melee would have been enough. Always a good game when goes to the last CC.

The initial US press was stalled. A platoon stack of Americans broke and was surrounded by some enterprising Germans on east flank. Loosing that stack and three tanks forced the Americans to concede. This is a tough on the Americans. Tank support needed and their weak SMOKE chances.

The German just turtles in the stone buildings and the Americans need incredible luck to get them out.

German fire KIA’d 1.5 sqds and broke 2 add’l US squads in Turn 1. Was able to get the halftrack back to chase the brokies but lost it in Turn 2.
Germans pulled everyone else into the hedgehog victory area and I continued to roll well stuffing the American attack. ASLOK ‘21

VASL's a funny game. My previous game was a scenario in which my 8-morale Russians couldn't pass any NMCs and fell like ninepins. Here though, my 6-morale Americans proved surprisingly resilient and repeatedly passed their MCs! This meant that I was able to press into the VC area early, and I was further helped by one German PzkwIV disabling its MA and the other falling to a bazooka shot. I thought I might have trouble with the final German stronghold in 46AA9, but by turn 5 I had this completely surrounded and it fell without my having to risk a CC. A fairly comfortable win for the Americans in the end, although I certainly had the better of the luck.

US tanks too careless in the first turn and lost 2 of them. German firepower was tough but they lacked ability to pass MCs. This allowed me to slowly envelop them and maintain DM on most of the brokies.

Americans were coasting to an easy win on the backs of hot dice when it all went wrong on turn 3. Germans won a couple of low odds close combats taking out the best American squads and leaders and coming out with a new leader of their own, as well as a turn where no ground was taken. After that, the Americans had to press harder, and the 6 morale troops were not up to the job. The PzIV's were never crucial except as a threat, but the German LATW did the job for them. Americans conceded on turn 5.

This scenario is another Andrew Rodgers design of Action Pack #16, which means that you are in for a close brawl with tough gut punches...
Set in Germany in October 1944, it pits the the attacking Americans vs. a mix of 548s and 447s with ample MGs that can dish out serious firepower against the GIs closing in on their 'castle' on the famously constricted board 46 town. Needless to say, to flush out the 'castle', the Americans have yet more firepower and are supported by no less than 5 Shermans in this 5.5 Turn tournament-sized scenario, but they are burdened by their lesser Morale while 'sucking it up'.
In our playing, we made a mistake by getting the German setup-area wrong, by allowing them to set up ON and south/east of the specified hexgrains rather than merely south/east of.
A full AAR can be found at GameSquad forum under the following link:
A challenging scenario for both players. Based on his setup I thought that a double-envelopment from EE5 and Board 53 would work. I opened by moving hard and fast against the screening defenders Tom placed in V8, freezing them with my Shermans and killing them in CC with my infantry, which knocked him down by a squad and a leader in Turn 1. I chose to send my reinforcements on an end run around Board 53, hoping to interdict his Turn 2 reinforcements but they ended up getting bogged down and shot up by the Mk4 he put behind the wall in Z9, resulting in the loss of my 76L Sherman and the near loss of a second 75mm Sherman. I chose to make my other effort to cross the street from building CC7 into BB7/CC8 only to run into his MMG and 75mm Inf Gun -- which was soon backed up by another Mk4, the combined weight of which threw me back to rally and regroup. Not having sufficient mass to effect a penetration on either flank, I shifted my forces to the center where I found a weak point. I managed to get into the building at Z6 and the graveyard, thereby threatening the woods in AA8 and position myself to outflank his defenders in BB8 and AA9, who's attention was focused on my reformed effort across the street. By that time he had malfed and recalled his second Mk4, lost three or four squads due to a combination of K results and failure to rout, and a leader. I wasn't sure it was over, but by that point it was 0200 hrs, Tom failed his Player Morale Check, and conceded.
