The U.S. 88th Infantry Division was to take Mount Bracchi in the opening of the offensive to take Rome. The 351st Infantry Regiment was to take the small town of Santa Maria Infante. But to reach it they had to attack over difficult terrain – in the dark. Small knolls known jocularly to the Americans as the Right and Left Tit jutted out on either side of the road to Infante.
