Overview:

At dawn, under orders that brooked no delay, the vehicles of the 2nd SS-Panzer Division lurched forward, beginning the eventful trek north towards the Allied beachheads at Normandy. At Montauban, the 4th SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment was to meet up with the divisional reconnaissance troop. But the Recce Abteilung was late getting into position. The commander of the "Der Fuhrer" Regiment impatiently ordered his headquarters section to roll north. Behind followed trucks, half-tracks and cars of the regiment in a long and dust-shrouded line. The HQ staff was still cruising at the head of the column when it reached the outskirts of the small village of Cressensac. As the lead vehicles neared the cluster of buildings, they were suddenly raked by a long burst of machinegun fire. As the long column jolted to a halt, the armored halftrack of the Recon battalion skirted it and roared forward -- its men enjoying the spectacle of clerks and officers cowering in the ditches as the price of their impatience.

2023-11-27(D) M T vs V.K. German (SS) winI aimed to hit both of the German Leaders and the 75mm on the initial ambush and set up accordingly. My opponent moved as predicted and the ambush was sprung - unfortunately the dice never got the memo and all attacks were missed! I did recover during the later game however, making it a tight contest to the end. My opponent played a good game and used Smoke well to cover his advance - victory well deserved.

This is a surprisingly good scenario and a change of pace from so called "normal" gameplay. I think it shows that the ASL system can really depict many kinds of combat situations. The Maquis are very much outnumbered, but they get to use HIP with all their units and the Germans need to exit a really big chunk of their initial force to win, so we felt that the game was also surprisingly well balanced.

I am not too sure about replay value though, as the German exit route choices will be quite limited. But otherwise, I would recommend this scenario.
2022-04-17(A) Douglas Leslie vs Marc Hanna Partisan win

(VASL Log)
The Partisans took a conservative approach by only committing a third of their force to the ambush while keeping the bulk of their forces between the SS and the exit hex while maintaining concealment. This tactic proved to be successful. Full report can be found here:

2022-03-23(D) Craig Renier vs Jim Vasiliou Partisan winThe Germans unloaded as soon as the entire convoy was onboard. The infantry carefully advanced along the East edge while the convoy idled in the road. A forward partisan unit was forced to reveal and attack permitting the German halftracks earlier than the Partisans wanted. The Germans made steady progress only loosing one MMC, a leader, and the car. The battle shifted in favor of the Partisans when the Allied sniper forced the HT with 37L to recall. Running out of time, the German pushed the convoy down the road facing fire and residual. Two trucks were wrecked, one of them burning. The outcome was still in the air until a Partisan MMC and leader entered CC against a BU HT wrecking it leaving no path to victory for the Germans.

ASL RECON GotM March 2022

Game 3 of ASL RECON: Wanted to switch to a vehicular exit with vulnerable vehicles...no Heavy Metal.
Also, wanted to choose a "non-standard" approach, NOT taking the roads.
Early shots were costly. Rolling overland was slow but methodical for the "convoy".
Partisans hit and ran...Germans tried to squeeze off the board, then had to ATTACK the Cowardly French Partisans...Killed most of their resistance, SCUM that they are killing innocent German SS soldiers.

BIG losses sustained, BUT still 1 TC and one SR of an 8 to make it to Victory....Missed the SR and MISSED the 9 needed to pass the TC....

Fun game DO NOT GIVE UP, there are always options!!!!

GG Thanks Kevin!!
2021-06-08(D) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne Duval Partisan winDisciplined and concentrated fire took it's toll on the Germans as the immobilized traffic slowed up the German advance preventing the needed exit VP.
2021-06-08(A) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin Duval Partisan win
2021-03-06(D) Richard Jenulis vs Jim Roche German (SS) winThe Partisan's six squads and a poodle were no match for the convoy of SS.
2020-06-28(D) Andy Beaton vs Richard Hooks Partisan winHeld fire until all units on the road had an adjacent target .. first blast burned 2 and immobilized one truck. The margin was recalling the 75 HT and its leader with successive stuns and wrecking the gun towing truck as it tried to make a last minute dash. Otherwise a pretty close game. Not many French survivors.

2019-12-29(A) Dan Best vs Paul Works Partisan win
2019-12-29(D) Paul Works vs Dan Best Partisan winTook out a lot of his convoy troops on the semi-L-shaped ambush, first shots; several with a fire-lane. Killed two German squads for failure to rout, then killed two stunned HTs in CC to close it out. I took no casualties.
2019-04-13(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins Partisan win
2019-04-13(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Partisan winAs the Partisans, I held my fire until Dan's Germans were deep into the ambush zone. Despite losing 5 of my 6 squads, I managed to inflict enough damage to secure the win as Dan exited only 18 VP. Fun game and brutal.
2013-12-15(D) mark watson vs Luke Sineath German (SS) winGreat little scenario. We thought I had own until we counted up the points. The partisans should stay hidden as long as possible. Not much advantage to attacking too soon. Clearly balanced would be good as a tournament classic.
