Overview:
The opening hours of the Ardennes offensive found forward U.S. infantry outposts probed and infiltrated by their German counterparts. River crossings and key road networks had to be seized to allow the panzer divisions to drive through Belgium. On the morning of December 16th, German formations crept through the Schnee Eifel and delivered the first hammer blows to the green U.S. 106th Infantry Division. . .Attacker: German (293rd Volksgrenadier Regiment, 18th Volksgrenadier Division)
Defender: American (423rd Infantry Regiment/Company B, 81st Engineer Battalion)

2023-09-19 | (D) Justin DiSabatino | vs | American win | At the start, this felt very one-sided. The Americans set up a forward defense anchored by two MG nests on the central hill with the AT guns hidden around the square. The first three turns felt like no contest, the German line steamrolled their way forward, routing almost all the Americans and disrupting the plan for an intentional withdrawal. At the start of turn 4, there was the start of a reversal of fortunes. The American center and southern flank were collapsing, but an American force solidified in R8 and S8. Those two stacks would prove pivotal to stalling and then breaking the German forces in conjunction with the American reinforcements, who managed to turn back the Germans coming around from the southwest. All in all, a great example of how a battle can go either way.

2022-12-05 | (D) Jack Wilson | vs | Bob T. | German win | Another fun game with Bob. Came down to German last fire phase on last turn. He was able to DM my last GO unit in my last VC building. Americans held the line for a while, but once he was able to get his HMG and MMG kill stacks established in the center hill area within LOS of all the VC hexes, it was just a matter of overpowering the helpless ML 6 Amis. Bob played a tactically sound game and did not leave me with any weaknesses to exploit. Great fun, nonetheless.
2022-11-11 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Bob W | German win | The German initial advance was reft with mistakes and poor setup. However, a few fortunate rolls prevented disaster. The Americans slowly withdrew, but took heavy fire in the few locations where the Germans were able to inch forward and cover most of the ground that needed to be crossed. The American reinforcements rushed into the fray as quickly as possible, but the Germans attack had taken its toll on the initial defenders. While it came down to the final turn to seal the win, the outcome was essentially decided before Turn 6.

2022-07-04 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Jim Liang | German win | The bulk of the German force concentrated on the American right flank. The initial German attack was stymied by the tenacious American defense. On Turn 1, the German mortar rolled no smoke and then subsequently malfunctioned before causing any harm to the defenders. After two turns, the Germans found themselves only 2 hexes closer to the VCs. The tide began to shift on Turn 3 when the German mortar was repaired and proceeded to break one American MMC with MMG. The two American AT guns were HIP'd forward in the defense and were both revealed by Turn 3. One ran out of HE early. The second was overwhelmed by the attackers. At then end of Turn 3, the two guns had been captured or abandoned and the center defenders were pushed off the hill. Even with the American reinforcements, the only Good Order Americans were 2 squads, 2 HS's, a crew and 2 leaders. Unable to rally enough of the broken squads, the Americans were quickly pushed back and forced from the center of the village. The game solidly was won by the Germans at the end of Turn 6.
2022-07-04 | (D) Jim Liang | vs | Craig Renier | German win
2022-04-18 | (D) Jack Wilson | vs | Ken Walsh | American win | Another closely played game with Ken. He pushed the Americans to the edge, and the game came down to two DRs to take out the crew manning my last 57L. Luckily, his dice were unkind. He pushed hard in the center and on his right (American left) I had a HS hold up his center push a couple of turns in CC/Melee in building L5. Another HS held on to the end of the game on the hill in building P8. It survived about four rounds of CC. But he eventually got into my backfield with a several FGs, including a 24FP kill stack. I waited till the last turn to reveal my last 57L and crew in building U7 Unlike my other ATG, it maintained ROF several times (and got a CH) while holding off two attack groups from being able to close for CC. Several things we both agreed on: 1. The German MTR seems to be only a factor for the first two-three turns. Ater that, the battle moves beyond its LOS, and it's too cumbersome to manhandle far enough forward to be of much help. 2. Once the American 57L lose HE, they are not nearly as effective, and are vulnerable to the ubiquitous kill stacks. 3. The American player needs to be mindful of the Victory Conditions. The German player wins if there are no GO MMC in the six VC buildings. The German player can accomplish that be either blasting the defender on the IFT, or moving in for CC, and then surviving to Melee, which makes holding those buildings a little more difficult. Again, a well-balanced fun scenario.
2022-04-10 | (A) Eric Partizan Eric | vs | German win
2022-02-27 | (D) Codie Lonsberry | vs | Hugh H | German win (VASL Log) | @clons87 (Americans) vs. @HughH (Germans). The Germans tied down the strongest American defense with two excellent mortar smoke shots no Turn 1 & Turn 2 which stifled any chance the Americans had of slowing the German advance. The hidden 57Ls were near useless due to ammo shortage and poor placement. Germans slowly and methodically advanced using 2 large kill stacks to mow down any American resistance. The American reinforcements kept them in the game until the Prep Phase of the last turn when yet again the kill stack made the last remaining GO American turn tail and run! Well played Hugh. Note; this was played using PBeM so attached is the last log.

2022-02-14 | (A) Ballesteros Angel | vs | Solo | American win
2022-01-08 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Artem Kalinovskii | German win | US setup their defenses too close to the German initial line, so the mortar had a chance to clear the way for the flank assault, Germans secured the victory building radius before the US reinforcements could reach it.

2021-07-30 | (A) César Moreno | vs | Squarism | German win | My mortar broke with the first shot and never was repaired. So I had to rely on bold maneuvering without the cover of smoke. It paid off. A couple of lucky shots and a succesful CC made my opponent resign before his reinforcements arrive.
2021-01-03 | (D) Lee Hyde | vs | Tim Pelican | American win | The German 81Mtr can cause some problems in this one. Played til last turn and some judicious Rally rolls gave me 4 buildings with MMC garrisons in the last German Turn, to make it really tough. Only the HMG fired in the last Prep and broke 2 x MMC’s in one building, leaving a Leader, but revealed my last Gun position and the crew survived in tact. Tough moves to get into Advance range for CC attempts proved too much, but even so I only manage to Pin potential attackers. Barely enough to scrape the win. Well fought game.

2020-12-22 | (D) Pascal Boileau | vs | Simon Goudissard | American win | A very nice scenario for both sides. The firepower of the Germans could be devastating. Therefore, American troops have to retreat during the first turns in order to avoid too many losses. In the last turns, the German troops need to move in the open towards the building hexes of victory. At this very moment, they are vulnerable to the American shots. A disputed game that ends with a short American victory.
2020-11-26 | (D) Craig Renier | vs | Steve Boro | German win | The American defense was immediately stomped on by 10 consecutive shots from the German mortar, one of which included a critical hit. There was little the Americans could do to stem the German tide. The German advance focused on the American right easily crossing the roads. The American guns were positioned in the rear as a final defense. When revealed, the first one broke on its first shot. The second one was eliminated on its second shot. The Americans conceded on Turn 3 with only three good order units standing in the way, two crews and a half squad.
2020-11-21 | (D) Mark Dennehy | vs | Craig Reiner | German win
2020-11-21 | (A) Craig Renier | vs | Mark Dennehy | German win | The American initial setup made it nearly impossible for the German to do anything but advance into American shots. The tactic was maintained through the first half of the game leaving very few PrepFire and even DefFire opportunities for the German. The German assault focused on the American right and center and was able to maintain steady progress. This was facilitated heavily by American high dice rolls (validated in post mortem analysis). With few German losses incurred in the advance, it was too difficult for the Americans to resist.
2020-10-29 | (D) Igor Luckyanov | vs | Anton Sulin | American win
2020-10-22 | (D) Stephen Solomon | vs | Craig Ranier | German win | I made some set-up mistakes and was too far forward with ill conceived route paths. Craig played a skillful match and was on me like a chicken-on-a-June Bug. I bolo-ed this won.
2020-10-03 | (D) David Garvin | vs | Loic Gourdon | German win | What a see-saw battle. Loic's attack was initially unstoppable. Then I had some good fortune; however, that didn't involve my AT guns, which failed to bring any HE with them at all. LOL Great match
2020-09-17 | (D) David Wiesenhahn | vs | American win
2020-08-25 | (D) Jonathan Plott | vs | Craig Renier | German win | What started off as a runaway for the Germans became a slugfest that went down to the last turn of the game! Fellow DC Conscript recruit Craig R was my opponent this evening, and we wanted an SK#2 scenario that featured Ordnance so we could learn a bit more about the mechanics of the TH/TK process and incorporate those capabilities into our respective battle plans. The German OB had an 81mm mortar (with useful HE and Smoke factors) to support his attack; the Yanks had 2x57mm AT guns that were not well suited for fending off an infantry assault. BAZ/PSK fires did not affect the outcome. Craig got the first move, crowded his right flank with a huge kill stack (3xSq/3xMG/9-1 leader; 24 FP!!) and after 2 turns, and shattered my defenses in front of it. As the Amis had 2 HIP guns, he advanced his infantry deliberately, without taking any undue risks. With my left flank pretty much gone, and my center positions starting to wilt from the constant fire of the kill stack, I was actually wondering if I would be conceding the game before my Yank reinforcements arrived in the bottom of Turn 3. But the reinforcements DID arrive pretty much exactly when and where they were needed and wound up shoring up my left until the last German PFPh in Turn 7. The Artillery, which was the main reason Craig and I chose this scenario, was a bit of a bust. Craig got three shots off with his single German mortar before it MALF’d in Turn 2, and it finally Broke hard (X6 off the board hard) late in the game. The Yank AT guns did not affect the German assault through fire attacks as much as their hidden presence did, but the crews acquitted themselves quite well in CC and self-rallies until the final turn and a half. Craig maintained a steady pressure against the the left, right and center American positions with his well conducted German infantry assaults, and while my Americans did not collapse in dramatic fashion (they came close a couple of times), they certainly crumbled once Craig amassed his force for the last drive on the remaining VC positions. Casualties, as in squads off the board was 3 to 1 in the Germans favor for the game, and, of the five S/MMC counters the Americans had left in game, 4 were broken. Victory to Craig and his Germans! Great game, great Scenario, and not a whole lot of sleep last night!
2020-06-29 | (A) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Jakob Gruvaeus | German win | A couple of miscalculations about LOS gave the german a few good shots and the reinforcements were finished. I few well placed baits also gave the germans good space for maneuvres in the end game and the last, surrounded bastion, of american heroes in S4 were overrun and broke in FPF which sealed the game.
2020-06-27 | (A) Jonathan Plott | vs | Kevin Sanders | American win | One of the games in the DC Conscripts Human Wave Virtual Tournament (VASL) June 2020.
2020-05-08 | (A) Nate Gregg | vs | Chris Gregg | Draw | Cannot recall why we considered it a draw. This was one of the last Starter Kit scenarios we played before switching exclusively to full-blown ASL.
2020-04-27 | (D) Macari Samuel | vs | G. | German win | American guns are not what they used to be. No effect during all the game except breakdown and misses. However, American resisted proudly until the last turn : German won on the last CC by eliminating an entire stack. Tense and interesting game.
2020-04-14 | (A) Kevin Sanders | vs | Rob Brown | German win | Really had to push last turn or two or else would have lost. Unlucky yanks lost HE on both guns 1st shot. Fun attack, hard for Americans have to be smart in a delaying defence.
2020-03-06 | (D) Macari Samuel | vs | O Ramaille | German win | My setup was very weak as I really didn't know to manage the defense. I was completely overtaken by my opponent who played a good game.
2020-03-06 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Macari Samuel | German win | The German assault quickly overwhelmed the American defense with the help of the mortar. The guns revealed themselves but were soon overrun by the German infantry. Total victory for the Germans.
2020-02-07 | (A) John Smith | vs | Scott | German win | The Germans started out with some hot dice and had the Americans on their heals after 1.5 turns, to the point where the game was close to being over. We tabled the game, then came back to finish and the dice turned. The American's had the hot dice, scoring 2 CH with their lone surviving 57L in hex U5 (an ideal strong VC strong point for this scenario, because it's a stone building on a hill and nearly all German squads will have to CX to advance into it near the end). Even though it was AP at only 2 IFE (HE ammo long gone) he wiped out a German stack in a wood building. In the end it came down to CC, and the Germans squeaked out a win by the barest of margins (American gun crew locked in melee). Fun scenario.

2018-08-24 | (A) Tripp Killin | vs | Sebastian Killin | German win | Hot dice on both sides, this favored the Germans as they had more guys. Mortar smoke allowed a good opening advance, but then Americans would KIA some guys, and the Germans would respond in kind. Was going to be close buy a late PSK CH sealed the American's fate
2018-04-27 | (A) Lee Hyde | vs | Max Malm | German win | Americans quite weak in this one, and too many broke early on.
2018-01-01 | (D) Max Malm | vs | Lee Hyde | German win
2017-07-22 | (D) Seumas Hoskins | vs | Dean | American win | Americans had some rough rolls in the beginning, losing two leaders, one AT jammed first shot, Bazooka a dud, an MMG jamming three times. The Germans tried swinging around south to make their approach after the northern thrust got wiped but his plan was about three turns too late as Americans still controlled most of the square by game end.

2012-10-28 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | American win | December 16th 1944. A bad day for the Volksgrenadieren. Undoubtedly, these were not trained enough with the MGs as could be seen with so many fires without effect. They relied on close assault but there the green americans were efficient. Lots of Volksgrenadier routed without enough leaders to rally them. No doubt, a bad day for the germans.
2012-06-23 | (D) Paul Messina | vs | Andrew Muller | American win
2011-09-17 | (A) Luke Sineath | vs | Markus Klaas | American win
2011-09-10 | (A) Edward Fritz | vs | Dave Bresson | German win | American player got diced. Germans rarely rolled more than a seven and the Americans couldn't roll less than an eight. It was over when the American reinforcements, who were holding on well, broke and were routed to the edge of the board.
2011-03-20 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | German win | S15: Hammer to the Teeth. Well balanced scenario. The germans did win at the last turn whan they enter melee on one of the remaining AT gun enter also another melee with a squad and a half. Very good scenario.

2009-06-25 | (A) Paul Jaschke | vs | Dave | German win | I got a couple lucky shots with well placed MG. Never got to really use my PSK but the mortar's smoke was key to successfully assaulting American position. HIP gun adds a nice amount of suspense although there are a limited number of placements that would make tactical sense.

2009-02-18 | (D) Jonathan Davis | vs | Scott Kippen | American win | Attacker spent too many turns shooting and not moving. Defender won easily. One of the HIP guns never even got revealed.
2008-10-14 | (D) Rami Saarinen | vs | JR | American win | To the last CC roll. Americans rolled "3" for 1-2 attack while Germans could only do CR.
2008-08-24 | (A) Rami Saarinen | vs | Malcolm Lowe | Draw | No feedback from the opponent. I call it a tie since this is not moving anywhere.
2008-06-18 | (D) Allen Evenson | vs | David Tsui | American win | Came down to last CC - Germs had the balance but destroyed the Mortar early after breaking it first shot - very tense.
