2017-07-09(D) Jim Rupp vs James L. American winI've wanted to try this scenario for a while and was glad when James agreed to play it. On turn 3, I rolled snakes on my first attack, giving the American sniper a chance to make the obligatory wounded leader I am so famous for producing. :) From that attack, The Americans were fleeing in terror in turns 4 and 5 except for a lone HS hiding in smoke right by the Manor. I finally managed to persuade him to leave on turn 5, allowing the board to be cleared. The latter half of the game was an utter failure for the Germans. I set up for long range combat and got punished for it before I even fired. My mistake was to hold fire until turn 7, as I needed to produce as many casualties on the Americans as soon as possible. Things then went downhill for the Germans, with combat producing almost no casualties, but the American firepower managing to wound my hero (which was holding the HMG in true Rambo fashion) and break almost all squads in a single turn. The American's hot dice is what they needed to clinch the victory in turn 8. In retrospect, the scenario played out almost like the actual battle, so I can't complain about historicity. I liked the mid game reset if no squads are near the farmhouse, as it adds some fog to the new squads coming in. But in the end, the paratrooper firepower just overwhelmed the meager defense. Turn 8 was marked by James trying to figure out how to creatively destroy the last of the Germans.
