Overview:

The brigadiers commanding 69th Infantry and the supporting 8th Armoured Brigades had accompanied B Squadron of the Dragoons Guards up Hill 102, south of Cristot. Opposition was light, but infantry would be needed to secure the position. The Green Howards were summoned, and looked with dismay at the difficult country they would have to cross. At least only slight opposition was anticipated. Unbeknown to the Green Howards or their brigadiers the Hitlerjugend Division appreciated the value of the hill and, following the British recce, slipped reinforcements into the position.
Attacker: British (D Company, 6th Green Howards / B Squadron, 4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards)

2024-06-23(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM British winI drew the attacking British in this rainy bocage fight. Turn 1 ended on a low note when Jim successfully used ESB for both Panthers, passed two bocage crossing bog checks and brewed up a Sherman V(a) with a TH DR3 75LL AFPh shot! Turn 1 wasn't too bad. My infantry found the hidden 50L, but the Firefly broke its MA on its first shot at a HD Panther behind bocage! I decided to move the tanks in Turn 3, but the HD Firefly was brewed up by Jim's sharp-shooting Panther when it started up. I broke the 50L crew. The rain wasn't a factor as very little firing occurred at >7-hex range. The Panthers slaughtered my Shermans, but my infantry held up and reached the L6 and F2 hills. I threw two MMC at L6 to occupy Jim's infantry (they were both broken and routed away), and three 457s, the 9-1 and the Hero at E2-F2. I advanced wounded Hero Hollis into CC with the Panther C to prevent it from firing at the 457 w/PIAT in F2. It came down to that 457 surviving an OVR which it did for a squeaker of a win. Jim: Bocage fights are always tense and the difficulty moving any distance is frustrating but they're also generally great games as this one was. I should have been move aggressive with the second Panther in the last two turns and closed on the 457s approaching hill E2. That and a broken CMG cost me. Well played and as close as a game could get!

2022-01-29(A) Tom Rodwell vs Lee Hyde-Sellars British winThis turned into a battle of manoeuvre rather than brute force, with the British brushing aside Lee's covering force of SS on the southern side of the map. They then sprinted for the south eastern hill. At the eastern end of the map a separate tank battle took place with the British armour fixed by their inability to move (the British infantry moved every turn) and losing two Sherman Vs to one of Lee's Panthers. Lee, however, was deeply unlucky with his dice rolls, with one Panther missing a Sherman twice and the other stalling its engine. As a result the Panthers were unable to interfere in the critical infantry battle, with one Panther destroyed by flanking fire from a Sherman as it made a last ditch effort to prevent the British from securing the hill. Overall, it was a lucky win for me as Lee's dice let him down at critical points. Additionally, we played with the British balance (Panthers enter on turn two rather than turn one), without which this would be a very difficult scenario for the British player.
2020-10-08(A) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler German (SS) winRob spread out his thin line of troops across the board,
and I attacked heavily on the left. I didn't really come too close,
as I think the game was decided before the last British movement
phase. To win, I would have had to run through a fair bit of fire/
residual.

We made a fairly large mistake in that the German AT Gun
should have been revealed a lot sooner then Rob did reveal it.
Apparently Rob forgot the rule about hiding units solely because of bocage.
He said he felt badly about calling it a win. I countered with chants of A.2.

As others have said, this one feels a bit tough on the British. Rain
means no SMOKE most of the time and the restriction of moving infantry
or vehicles gives the Brits some tough decisions. Interestingly, with 11
wind change DR, the rain did not ever change in intensity.

Positives: Bocage. Size. Interesting situation.

I was afraid of bocage until Purple Heart Draw cured my
fear.

Size. It's a small scenario. We finished in about two hours. It's small enough to
play twice in a session. We had a bit of a late start so were unable to do so.

Situation: Our match turned into two smaller battles. The tank battle at one end
of the board and the infantry battle at the other, with the two converging. The Brits
have difficult decisions (who to move). The Germans do as well. They need to fall
back, but not too quickly.

Negatives: None really.

We will likely replay this one next week. Rob promises not to cheat!

2017-10-07(D) Jason Wert vs Anthony Flanagan German (SS) winASLOK Purple Rain Mini played with the British balance. Tough scenario on the British with the option to only move tanks or infantry. Anthony made a great push toward the far hill, but an immobilized panther and active panther effectively blocked the assault

2015-06-06(A) Jim Kloss vs Bob Eury DrawI had to concede early to attend a sporting event, however I felt as if my British attack was running out of time due to the slow going in the bocage.
The either/or movement restrictions on the British armor and infantry was unique and necessitated that the Shermans form a mutually supporting hedgehog at the crossroads until the infantry could link up. I just didn't have time to make it happen.

2012-12-08(D) Raoul Duke vs MH German (SS) winEven after burning both Panthers, the British still have a very, very tough job. No infantry got past hexrow 'Q'.
2012-09-25(A) Andy Beaton vs Martí Cabré German (SS) winOnce I lost my tanks, I was at the mercy of the German Panthers. I was able to get some guys to the bottom of a hill by turn 6, but they didn't stay alive there very long.
We'll play Second Cristot as a rematch.
2012-09-25(D) Martí Cabré vs Andy Beaton German (SS) winIn this game I first went out of luck with the British sniper destroying my MG nest. I thought I had lost my positions there, and the British tanks covered the road very well. After that my PSK was also destroyed, but I managed to roll a PF. But then the British did not push hard enough with the infantry in the central position. I did have nearly nothing to stop them and was manouvering like crazy with the Panthers to avoid your fire. When the Firefly tank broke down I quickly attacked to cover the way to the hill and then it was a matter of micromanagement to cover all the possible ways into the hill and having good dice rolls. I liked the scenario.
2012-07-05(A) Fred Ingram vs Chris Hofland German (SS) winWell, the British set up primarily to move on the North flank towards the hill. Although I did not feel I wasted infantry movement, they sure needed another turn. They also needed the rain to stop, but it actually increased (and then we forgot to apply the +1 modifier on quite a few shots - although that did not affect the game outcome).

Early on, one of the Panthers bogged going over the bocage, then mired when attempting to unbog.

The British really needed the rain to stop to be able to move in the tanks for a single turn to lay smoke (or burn themselves) to provide cover for the advancing infantry. The British conceded at the end of turn 5 after it was apparent they would only get one squad onto the victory area. Good delaying play by the Germans
2012-03-24(D) Michal Bonaventura vs Permonick German (SS) winBritish tried to attack german AT at end of the road and 3 his tanks was destroyed. German tank smashed some British infantry. In the last german turn, when some opponent's infantry crossed the line above the hill, german leader became berserk and "infected" most of large infantry stack, which crushed last hope of british...
2011-05-21(A) Bob Callen vs Brian Brown British winMarked this one good because our game was a British romp but I think it would have a fair amount of replay value and the Germans can win this. In our session the Germans gave up really good shots to the Shermans for DI in the first couple of turns. The Panthers never got to a spot where they could influence the end game, and without their support, the fun factor was over on turn 2.
2011-03-12(A) Ian Willey vs Simon Stanforth German (SS) winWe made a mistake on where the Germans reinforced from. Played on and had fun.
