Longstop Hill, a two mile-long ridge, stood between the Allies and their second attempt to capture Tunis. The highest point of the hill was Point 290, positioned near the center and covered by a secondary position, Point 243, the Djebel el Rhar. Allied reconnaissance had failed to discover this vital position before the men of 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards, set out to capture Longstop.
