On the second day of Operation Barbarossa, Kampfgruppen Raus was driving to take Rossienie from the flank. Only the small apple-growing hamlet of Paislinis stood in the way. As the lead company of the KG burst forth from a narrow dirt trail into the apple orchards and open meadows of the hamlet, the company commander, who was in the first vehicle, was shot dead by a sniper in a fruit tree. At the same time the rest of the company was taken under fire from rifles and machineguns from less than 100 meters. The lead company dismounted quickly and returned fire but couldn't move forward. The supporting panzers drove on to engage the Russians.

Add to SSR# 2: "Snipers *are* considered armed units for the purpose of Rout but cannot interdict." However, although they cannot interdict, you still cannot Rout towards nor adjacent to them...something to consider when plotting where to hide these guys, as you can create rout kill traps.DftB Issue 36

2012-11-12(D) Richard Carter vs David Langer Russian winSo back to some old school sniper rules. Not quite COI, but still interesting. This definitely requires the german to take a personal Moral Check, but our game came down to a last CC. The ambush can be devastating and those snipers helped me a bunch. Our last CC was 3:1 german vs russian. I was concealed, he was cx'd. I ambushed him and could w/draw to steal one VC hex away.
