Throughout most of the Second World War, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) was engaged in partisan warfare, first against the Germans, then against the Soviets. The UPA tended to avoid conflict with the Soviet Army, instead focusing their efforts on the much-hated NKVD and Soviet Partisans, who waged a cruel campaign against the UPA and the villages that supported them. In one instance, a small band of Soviet partisan cavalry descended on the small village of Hrabivka, foraging for food and supplies. As they started ransacking the village, the Soviet partisans were set upon by a platoon of Ukrainian partisans and driven away. The next day, the Soviet partisan cavalry attacked in much greater force.
Great little scenario, lots of fun. However very dicey so be warned. My Russian partisans swarmed onto the board without loss and soon forced the Ukrainian partisans back, Mr 9-2 leader doing sterling work with one of the smaller kill stacks I have had (LMG 5-2-7 LMG 3-3-7) however the Ukrainian reinforcements arrived just in time to sore up the defence and casualties mounted on both side, helped by my Commissar reducing two squads for failing to rally. Coupled with my utter inability to scrounge food, ( One success out of six buildings searched). meant that I was well behind in VP's needed by the last turn.

I agree this started off ok, perhaps even skewed a bit unfairly to my side after I outright killed two squads during the opening moves. Despite a comfortable lead in VPs, by Turn 2 I was already feeling very overwhelmed, and was thankful to receive my substantial reinforcements. At our breaking point halfway through I was still feeling pretty good, but after looking things over before going into our culminating session that feeling had pretty well dissipated. I figured Scott already had enough buildings where he could sit back and search for food, while I was stuck across the western road unable to pose much of a threat. The SSRs basically force stacking to muster any sort of firepower, and facing a commissar and a 9-2 across the way I knew that was battle I did not like my odds in. Then the hot/cold dice kicked in and this this dicey little affair got blown all apart.

Started off as a fun little scenario with Russian partisans grabbing some buildings (and a couple of food bundles) and hunkering down to wait for the Ukrainian reinforcements. However, it went south quickly because of my continued hot streak on the dice. (Four snakes on a single turn? Jeff rolling multiple 12's on MC/Rallies to CR away his forces?) A small scenario like this can't stand up to such a run of luck, and it quickly became a walk-off for the Russians. Would be an interesting scenario to play at FtF get-togethers or tournaments as it has some interesting decisions for both sides.

Ukranians kept Russian leaders broken until reinforcements arrived. Russians never rolled anything but 6 looking for food. Conceded early. We suspect the Russians should have been more aggressive with horses on turn 1 and damn the casualties.

An interesting scenario played at IF14 with Russian partisans attempting to scrounge food parcels (in the form DC counters)from buildings held by their Ukrainian enemies. I thought my Ukrainian defenders had lost on the first turn as all my shooting, even against mounted cavalry, had no effect and, by the end of turn 1, I had Russian partisans behind me. Things stabilised a short while later when my reinforcements arrived and my second turn saw me KIA a mounted squad and the commissar. The tide really turned when I managed to cut off and encircle the over-extended Russian 9-2, break his men and kill him in CC. After that the Russian was on the back foot and didn't have the required VP margin to win.

WO14 - I think this will be a barker. Everything went well and the Russians still ended up with no chance.
