Overview:
Colonel Reuben Tucker personally appealed to General Gavin to allow his 504th Regiment to attack Cheneux. Friendly civilians had reported a large column of German vehicles, including tanks, encamped there. Normally an American infantry regiment would request a battalion of armor for support before making such an assault, but Colonel Tucker had an ace up his sleeve. His men had recently captured a whole truckload of panzerfausts, had practiced with them, and now were ready to use them on the enemy. Combined with the early arrival of the latest model of bazooka, Tucker figured his force was strong enough to carry out the assault alone.

2019-03-31(A) John Malaska vs Juan Santacruz German (SS) winGot a decent toehold of the village on T1. Lost a MMC in exchange for 1 & half SS MMCs. Even though I "knew" where the gun was emplaced, I brain-farted & ran a stack into its sights. Lost a MMC with the reminders (inc 2 MMGs) retreating to the rear, effectively out of the fight. Adding insult to injury, my M36 fell victim to a sniper & Recalled. Stack led by the 10-2 swept around to the German rear GT-style, but SS blocked that move. Whirbelwind was particularly nasty with IFE! Another painful lesson learned.
2019-01-19(D) X von Marwitz vs Michael Koch American winI opened my ASL season of 2019 with a game of ASL195 Rocket's Red Glare vs. Michael Koch FtF. Somehow, I have never played this classic previously published as G6 in an ancient General Magazine before. One notable tidbit is that one of the entry hexes (3I1) looked remarkably different on the old mounted mapboards compared to the new SK-style boards and VASL boards. This does have an impact with regard to Bypass in that hex, especially for the only American AFV. And there are only two entry hexes overall. So I think one is well advised to convene with the opponent on how to handle the 3I1 hex. That said, the scenario features an elite SS defending force reinforced with a vicious FlaK-Pz IV, an 105 ART piece and a StuG IIIG L. The US enjoy excellent leadership, high firepower and an abundancy of LATW in the form of BAZ44 and 45 plus some SSR'ed German PF without availability dr or Captured Use penalties. The game started off with the US rolling snakes to KIA a 658+MMG, the latter being destroyed by Random SW destruction. In the MPh, the US placed WP smoke via a BAZ, which is a nice idea. Catastrophically, in the first MPh the US sniper was triggerd and promptly struck to recall the FlaK-Pz IV, one of the key-units in the game. Meh! If this weren't enough, the German HMG rolled boxcars on its first shot and did not repair until the end of the game. On the bright side, I managed to break 2 squads + a 8-0 leader upon entry and contrieved to eliminate the 10-2 for FtR. However, when the Sniper struck again to kill one of the German 8-0 leaders, re-DMing a broken 658 in the process, no one left to rally the two German broken squads and the FlaK-Pz recalled on the flank of the US Schwerpunkt, it became clear that the Germans would not stand any chance. Thus we called it a day in Turn 3. Losing the Flak-Pz IV, the MMG, the HMG, a 658 and the only 8-0 available on one flank with only two broken squads there so early in the game was too much. I guess, I have to play this one again under more normal circumstances.
2018-11-29(A) Lorenzo Marinaro vs Ulric Schwela German (SS) winScenario that in my view is highly unbalanced in favour of the Germans. The scenario is very static for the German since the VP are very close and no matter what side the US player chooses for the attack the German easily covers the whole town.
2018-11-16(A) Lorenzo Marinaro vs Ulric Schwela German (SS) winROAR Balance for this scenario by MMP is: "Rocket's Red Glare [195] American 5 German 14" Its over 70% pro German. The ROAR data liste here on this page is very misleading.
2018-07-20(D) Louis Langdeau vs Andrew S German (SS) winAnother run at some of the tank rules. In this one, Andy and I got to try out armor on armor, which was a nice bump up in complexity from our last armor game. I set up pretty far forward, but tried to avoid any LoS to his big leaders off the start. I set up an MMG and HS on the far side of the hill on my right, and it paid off huge. I think part of that was unfamiliarity though. Andy set up a little wonky, and we noticed after the fact that he probably could have made a much better go of it if we had used some of the edge case tank rules (smoke pots and the like). As it was, Andy's initial pushes got lit up pretty badly, and we ended up calling it on turn 3.
2018-02-26(D) Jeff B vs Phil Wentworth German (SS) winAmericans dodged bullets early when the hidden gun blasted the 10-2 and stack and came away with only a broken squad. Unfortunately for them during the German PFPh the same gun obliterated the stack with a multiple KIA. Turn 2 saw them continue their eastern flanking maneuver while another force crept forward up the middle. The M36 wisely positioned itself to make the German attempt to protect the northern building difficult. Turn 3 saw the Germans generate the first of their three heroes, but the eastern flanking Amis were coming dangerously close to their objective, while the M36 still kept the Germans at bay. Turn 4 saw the Germans go on an incredible ROF tear. Not with the HMG, but the MMG (which happened to be directed by the 9-2). The flanking Amis had reached the doorsteps of the northern building, and both sides lost a squad to FTR in the close confines. Meanwhile two leaders were going mano-a-mano in the woods in melee. The Germans finally braved moving some men toward the building, and repositioned the Whirlwind as cover there for added measure. Turn 5 saw the one Ami squad up north bust all but one half squad (who generated another hero), but he couldn't survive the return fire. Down to trying to desperately rush the middle building, the Americans were shredded to a man on their last turn. Great game and fun opponent.
2017-08-10(A) David Garvin vs Jeff Donigian American win
2017-06-28(D) James Lowry vs Tom Arnold American win
2016-12-17(A) Allen Evenson vs Richard Jenulis German (SS) winAmerican Turn 5 a US squad and 9-0 leader was able to get into CC in the O10 building concealed. They successfully ambushed the single German SS squad needing a 6 or less to win the game... It didn't happen. I went on to lose the game. Fun Scenario though.
