2022-11-18 | (D) Simon Staniforth | vs | Mike Davies | | German win | An enjoyable medium / large scenario with both sides taking the AFV reinforcement groups. By SSR the Russian tanks have to move first and in T2 as they threatened the Eastern factory I was able to spring an ATG ambush. It took plenty of APCR shots but the dice gods were kind and much ROF later, as well as the ART piece joining in, 4 of the Russian tanks were KO. Undeterred the Russians took the central factory and pressed the Western victory buildings which had only a skeleton / dummy defence pending the reinforcements. Fast forward to the final turn it’s in the balance and the up to now reliable T-28 finally fail a mechanical thus denying the Russians some much needed firepower to contest the last building. The Germans hang on for a win. An enjoyable game, would happily play again as either side |

2021-11-09 | (D) Rob MacGinley | vs | James Short | | German win | Russians hit a hard wall of defensive fire that kept them at bay and they ran out of time to take all the VCs they needed |
2020-12-22 | (A) Andy Bagley | vs | Gordon Jupp | | German win | Germans took the AFVs and I didn't, so only needed three buildings, but still a tough one for the Russians. I took the obvious approach through the woods but found it well defended (what i guessed were dummies weren't!). I eventually took that first building, but it was costly - particularly from his sniper - and his AT guns were also well placed, accounting for two of my tanks. I would might have secured a second building but not the third as my desperate charge towards the I9 factory failed. |
2020-12-22 | (D) Gordon Jupp | vs | Andy Bagley | | German win | Hard fought game but the German sniper was deadly, taking out both the Commissar and the 9-2 leaders, which made life difficult. I took the STUG's but Andy didn't the KV's, so only 3 buildings required but his attack was met by a hardened German defence on Board 71 and it wasn't to be. (Balance for Russians taken - and pretty much required we think). |
2020-12-06 | (D) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Erik Grande | | Russian win | The russian got the balance and none of us chose the AFVs. That meant that 4 buildings needed to be taken. A bit halfhearted forward defence did nothing to the russians. It was clear that the western buildings were the target. A gun managed to kill a squad and a russian AFV malfed it´s gun and thing looked ok but then a very well conducted russian assault together with sub-par german rolling made it impossible. A shortlived dream of going around the russians to reclaim the southernmost building again was crushed by a ATR destroying my armoured car. In the end it was pure mopping up done by Eric. |

2017-12-31 | (A) Andy Beaton | vs | Richard Hooks | | Russian win | Switched sides, the Russians didn't take the KVs, the Germans took the StuGs. German armour neutralized by T28 crit, ATR and DC attacks. Russian infantry went up the centre of board 71, bypassed the 105 and the AT guns until late in the game. Took two board 71 buildings then went right and left to take both factories with bogged T28s in them. The Russian sniper was deadly, as was the commissar, but in a bad way. |
2017-12-02 | (D) Andy Beaton | vs | Richard Hooks | | German win | Germans started badly with an illegally placed 105 (legal placement in factories is Red Barricades only) but the Russian infantry was cautious and bluffed by dummies. First KV immobilized by a StuG and when the second fell in a cellar the Russian failed his personal morale and conceded. |
2017-11-13 | (A) Michael Rodgers | vs | Magnus Rimvall | | Russian win | We played using the Russian balance, which removed the German ART gun. I took the KV option to have some ability to lock the fire of defending infantry. Magnus did not take the StuG option. I had better dice than Magnus in the early stages. The 37 AT guns went down without inflicting damage. After three turns, the Russians had two VC buildings and were certain to obtain two more in one more turn. The Russians were in a position to interdict any reinforcements heading for the fifth building, so we called it. |
2017-05-24 | (D) Scott Sherer | vs | Jeff B | | German win | |
2017-05-24 | (A) Jeff B | vs | Scott Sherer | | German win | The Russians need to be very aggressive, and it showed when they took a heavy toll Turn 1. 3.5 squads and, perhaps more importantly, the 9-2 went down to initial enemy fire. This would probably prove to have game-changing consequences. Turn 2 saw them charge the central factory with the help of VBM sleaze freeze. This would be the only building they captured until late into the game. The Germans did elect the extra tanks, and these made their way onto the board during their part of the turn. Turn 3 saw the German reinforcements arrive, just in time to secure the very weak-looking German eastern flank. But two of their three tanks went down to a DC and ATR fire. The remaining tank caused just enough of a delay though that their selection was probably warranted. Turn 4 saw the German body count rise as the Russians continued their desperate press. The first of the eastern fringe buildings fell into their hands and all they needed was one more, but this would prove to be difficult as the remaining buildings were guarded with just enough. In the end the Russians fell a turn short. This is a great scenario with high replayability. |
2017-05-14 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Eric Michael | | German win | I played the scenario again, only this time as the attacker against my friend Eric. Unfortunately for me, he went on a rate tear with his 37L ATG and destroyed three of my heavy tanks before I could take it out, and the arty piece fired HEAT to flame my (optional) KV, leaving me with one functioning tank for the remainder of the game. Even so, this scenario is won with infantry. I managed to take four victory buildings in the south with desperate infantry rushes. He still had enough time and infantry to counterattack. Despite a heroic stand by the conscript squad I assigned to defend, he martyred them in close combat, thereby winning the game. Had I garrisoned the building better, he may not have been able to get in, it's just that by that point I needed really everybody to storm the southernmost factory. Game ended with 3 STGs, 1 halftrack, 8 squads and two leaders dead for the German, and 10+ squads, 5 tanks destroyed for the Russian, plus associated leaders and support weapons.
Even with all the firepower the Russians get, it's a tough scenario on the attacker. |
2017-05-06 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Ivan Kent | | Russian win | Attacked up the left map toward the woods mass. Used KVs to enter woods hexes to allow infantry an unimpeded advance. Went down to the wire and probably would have lost if my opponent had declined to take the Stugs. |
2017-04-07 | (D) Andy Goldin | vs | Pat Flory | | German win | Pat and I had fun playing this early war scenario. The Russian tanks are capable but their lack of radio makes them tactically less flexible than the STGs, if the German takes the OB option. I defended as the German and used the OB option for the STGs, since I felt like I needed more units on the board. OB options for both sides add some nice replayability. My ATGs killed 2 of his tanks. Both of us had malf-challenges, where I killed off my own 105 arty piece while he Disabled the MA on one of his two remaining tanks. Even so, I got a lucky sniper kill on his 9-2, which helped a lot and stymied his northern attack. Meanwhile in the south, my line of resistance held with some good planning, timely reinforcement and on-the-spot DFF rolls. |
