Shortly after elements of Kompanie 3, Fallschirmjager Regiment 2 parachuted into the sand dunes to the west, eighteen Ju-52 transports landed on Ockenburg Airfield with over 200 troops from Regiment 65, Infanterie Division 22 (luftlande). The second wave of eight Ju-52s soon followed with 130 more troops. Defending Ockenberg Airfield was Captain Dr. Pieter J.A. Boot with ninety-six men including an ensign and eight NCOs. Lightly armed, with only three light machine guns and no hand grenades, Boot's Depot Company showed intrepid resistance in the face of the massive air landing.
