It was the second day of Operation Plunder. British and American divisions had crossed the river Rhine in force while airborne troops had landed to establish a bridgehead for them. Then it was time to extend that bridgehead before the Germans could organize a defensive line. In the morning of 25 March, British armored infantry supported by tanks and tank destroyers moved out to open a corridor for following units. The beginning of the attack started well, but then the British ran into an outpost of Fallschirm-Artillerie–Regiment 7.
Attacker: British (No more details)
Defender: German (Elements of Fallschirm-Artillerie–Regiment 7)
Second playing, took the Allies this time - tried the slower approach, which was OK apart from Derek doing his usual in CC to me - I lost a squad to his gun crew... :( kept all the tanks back until T5 then swarmed the right flank - worked to a degree but I was relying on the 9-2 and a couple of squads to make it across on T6 , but Derek had spotted a los threading through two burning wrecks and they took a 6 -3 shot which broke them... close but no cigar...

German win
Another interesting scenario from the pack - Andy went hard up the British right but after some initial success (The ATG and Schrek both malfd Axis T1 - doh) the tide turned and by T3 all the Allied armour was destroyed for the loss of one Stug. A CH from the StuH42 was enough for the Allies to throw in the towel....I think the Brits could be a bit more conservative in their attack and use smoke to effect?

German win
I misplayed this as the Brits, because I thought I needed to prevent the German reinforcements moving straight up the road into the action. As Gordon says, a more conservative approach using smoke would have saved my tanks and should capture the woods line; however that still leaves open ground to cover to cross the railroad, and the Germans will be well placed for defence. Another issue is that the Shermans should easily win a Gun Duel if they can outflank the German StuGs, but with the playing area only ten hexes wide with lots of woods there's really no chance to do this. Interesting scenario, but a tough one for the Brits I reckon.

Ulric Swchela
British win
Very interesting scenario, Ulric's defence was focused on damaging the attacker, I think that the German player must deny to the British any LOS to the counterattacking forces and setting a defence up in order to contest the central village and woods which are going to be where the british attack will focus on. Good Game and excellent opponent.

I set up two HS and a PSK in a foxhole in hex CC1 to protect the German right flank. I had a 548 with LMG in CC4 and a 447 squad in a foxhole in CC6 adjacent to the wood-road. I was afraid to put that unit in the DD6 woods road hex because of easy overrun, but in the future I would probably do it. I had the captured British ATG in the FF7 building with its CA pointing to the German left flank. I put the three ? in a foxhole in FF8 to confuse where the PSK might be. Magnus attacked mostly up the British right flank. He lost one loaded halftrack to the 447 PF attack, but a second loaded halftrack drove through to unload a PIAT team near the stone wall. The captured British ATG missed on its first shot and broke on its second shot. I destroyed it in the following fire phase. The Germans were able to make use of the road despite the presence of the PIAT team so close. I decided to sacrifice a Stg to take them out, but the PIAT missed and the overrun got them. I put the 9-2 armour leader in the StuH because I wanted to focus on killing infantry. In the early going, I had better luck with TK rolls than Magnus, and I did not lose one AFV during the entire game. The action eventually focussed on the two woods hexes FF7 and FF8 on the German left. Magnus got several squads there, but I just managed to hurt them enough by fire and by CC to win the game. On the last turn, Magnus had 4VP of infantry in those woods and needed to rally up 4 more points to have a chance. I had made them all DM and forced them out of woods, however, and he did not rally them.

I hit the German front line hard with an aim to break through to the middle woods/buildings. It was a bit costly (one tank stunned, one tank MALF'd, one HT destroyed, and two tied up in CC) but I did manage to do so, though 80% of my squads broke in the bailing out process. I had been very concerned about the captured AT gun, but of course it broke first turn. Germans get a boatload of reinforcements first turn and it was going to be a tough two-front battle, holding them off in the east while trying to break my stragglers through in the west. Long story short, I thought I had positioned myself in the woods with enough points for victory, but the Germans managed to tie up enough of my troops in CC to deny them good order. Very fun scenario.
