Monastery Hill	Greeks tried to defend both hills and the crossroads. The Italians attacked on turn one on three prongs over hill 654 and either flank. Italians squads broke but were able to generally rally. The left Italian flank focused on the crossroads area to prepare for the turn 3 reinforcements to push on over hill 621 and the valley road. The Italians had 5 squads and a leader go berserk, which was able to overwhelm 3 Greek hexes and win in CC. Effective Italian fire broke most of the rest of the squads and hill 733 fell by turn 6. Bertoldo the Brave	Played through this twice as the Germans, getting clobbered both times. Stephen defended forward in force in both games. First attempt I could hardly get out of the setup area as I got thoroughly diced getting across the street. After losing much of my infantry to American GIs equipped with laser beams for an advance of a few hexes, we decided to restart. In my second attempt against basically the same setup, I managed to make better progress, getting as far south as the 15-hexline. I managed to kill off quite a bit of his infantry and one of the TDs at considerable cost to myself. By Turn 5 it was clear I would not have nearly enough time to clear the victory areas, so we called it another American victory. In both games, the strong forward defense worked for Stephen as I didn't have the dice to break him at the start, even with massive firepower. As much as I wanted to simply bypass knots of resistance, the narrow frontage of the map made that impossible and I had to attempt to defeat them in detail, and ran out of time.	Agoldin

Paratrooper's Hell	German drop in the village area was a disaster. 9-1 and 8-1 quickly eliminated. British and Greeks cleared the village and then the hilltop British pushed the Germans out of the Z Row. Tough scenario for the Germans after Turn 1 drop disaster.	grumblejones

Flanked Again	Americans have to set up with crossfire capabilities and place 4 additional foxholes to interdict the exit zone. My Americans managed to hang despite losing several squads. At game end...my Americans were able to focus 4 squads and an MMG on the exit zone and stop the final rush by the North Koreans. Very technical game that requires you to be on your very best.	grumblejones

The Onslaught Resumes	Defenders setup to hold the south edge stone building with trenches and squads protecting the wooden building row behind. This was highly effective and stymied the German attack as the reinforcing Russian squads just flowed back into the trench line and forward as needed. Battle in the North was more fluid and German firepower kept pushing Russians back. Overall this was fun but the Russian defense was a lot more static than we thought so the German players had fun but lost and the Russian players won but didn't have much maneuver so it was less enjoyable.	nebel

Black Devils of Bure	The Canadians ended up killing all two German AFV in CC. One in stopped VBM, one in the open in motion (rolled 1,1) generating an 8-1 leader making it a kill. The third AFV went down to a PIAT fired by a pinned HS in the top of 6. If those had not worked out, I had the HMG (group B), MMG, and LMG ready to lay down fire lanes on the road. The snow was heavy starting in the bottom of 1 and stayed that way the whole game. FL was the only thing that could have saved the Canadian.	Larry

Elephants Unleashed	FNF game that was my second playing of this scenario within six months. First time I was the Germans but this time I was allotted the Russians. Paul sent two AFVs with riders into the orchard to the west of the main buildings with the intention of attacking them from both sides. One squad failed its bailing out MC and the attack never really got going. I managed to run a T 34 into the walled enclosure behind the buildings from where it took out two German tanks before turning its turret to protect the buildings. By Turn 4 the Germans only had one AFV with functioning MA and Paul decided to call it a day at this point. I definitely had the better of the dice in this one. (VASL Log)	Dougban

Bout of the Century	I hate to say it...this was not a fun scenario. I greatly dislike variable OB...there's no way you can properly playtest variable OB and then too many fortifications in to tight a battlespace combined with a CVP cap that is too low for this kind game. DASL allows for Hand to Hand and the Germans are simply too strong for 6 Morale Americans (half the squads) to unseat from 6 Fortified Locations...seriously...I hit the CVP cap as the Americans the end of Turn 2. My dice were awful...and the Germans were smacking me around with ease.	grumblejones
Elephants Unleashed	Friday Night Fight - My second playing of this one, the first time being 17 years earlier where I was the Russians. I did my usual mistake and formed a too ambitious plan as the attacker. The dice however weren't a party to the plan and acted against the initial attack and the following attempts to reset. Centauro on a Flank	Friday Night Fight - Italians approached cautiously and come the end of their turn 6 it looked hard to get another 5 buildings to win although both Yugoslavian ATG were out of action. Turn 6 for the Allies and the west flank collapses as a squad adjusts its position, three buildings are now available. Italian turn 7 the M13/40 platoon and remaining L3/35 are able to freeze three positions allowing all three to be approached. One breaks to a demo charge the other two fall in cc, Italian win. Initial Skirmish	Game was over on Turn 1...French LMG went to lay the fire lane and rolled an 11...first roll of the game...gun malf'd no fire lane. Germans swarmed through and then the French Armored Car with the 8-1 Armor Leader MALF'd his MA and then in French Turn 1 Rally was RECALLED. Germans were in command and that was game. Pynda Avenged	The Italian MRT and MMG had some good early shots slowed the Greeks down. They tried bringing their main force from the north and were bogged down too much. A mid game rush produced even worse results. The Italians were able to pull out a victory.	dmareske

Defiance on Hill 30	American mortar was totally ineffective and I struggled to prevent the Germans gaining a toehold in the woods. A lucky sniper held up some Germans for a turn or so. Pushed out of all but one building but reos came on turn four which saved the day. Had some lucky die rolls that managed to save me from disaster. Held on for a draw in the CVP score.	Nicho11
It's a Battlefield	Canadian AT guns got two tanks early, but then one malf'ed and another was taking out by close combat. Once the Germans got into the buildings, they overpowered the Canadians with their FP and numerous leaders. Felt somewhat imbalanced against the Canadians.	keivn h
Ochota Revenge	Came down to close combat on last turn. Partisans were dominating but then some luck for Germans and blunders by Partisans caused a close ending.	keivn h
Beauty Ruined	Russian defender lost 8 squads in stemming the Finnish tide, but was helped when one FT tank boxed its FT attack for an early recall. Later, an ATR was fortunate to KO the other. 2/3 thru Finns held a good chunk of the station. However, some key end game melees struggled to resolve and this tied up Finn troops. In the end, a good order Russian squad/leader held a fortified location for the win. Very tight and both liked it a lot.	Houlie

Hill 621	The Germans ran for the hill and tried to set up a reverse slope defense with some tanks up on the hill. The Russians were able to catch enough of the fleeing Army Group Centre to cause chaos and with not much to slow them down, the Russians were able to swarm the hill with infantry. Scouts Out	Used US balance but Germans had extra HS south of river. Interesting situation as US has tremendous firepower but are fragile. Was able to smoke HMG and get to river. On turn 3 the US moved to cross and the German HMG broke on a FL shot. It repaired next turn but the loss in FP enabled the US to cross the river T3 and get into several hill hexes T4. Might Makes Right	Played this one very aggressively as the Norwegians, as the CVP limit is very low when you take into account all of the open ground around. A well-placed MMG with the 9-2 can absolutely devastate the attacker as the Alpine Hills can create interesting blind spots that can't be attacked by the Germans at the distances they'd like. Special shout out goes to the Norwegian Squad that found itself in Melee after being ambushed, pinned, and attacked by an 8-1 + Squad and got hit with a wonderful boxcars. He then drew attention for 3 turns, and was helped by a sniper killing the leader he was stuck with. Further reinforcements never managed to clear him and other minor losses added up to a loss. Black Day in Hatten	The German crew went down to a rogue sniper in game. The gun covered the two VC locations in the back. After failing to rally twice, the crew rolled 12 on his third attempt. Without that critical asset, the American TD proved too much and prevailed.	Larry

Wons Enough	ASL ring game 4. Skillful moves by Michel that led to almost each unit in my OB being encircled at one point during the game.	strategos
Ramsey's Charge	Amis chose not to conduct a charge, but did eliminate one Jap HS in AFPh. They made a mistake not sending units north to interdict the Japs crossing the stream, as without danger they were able to hot foot it and get to and across the bridge. Another Jap HS was blasted away Turn 2, and the temple was captured, but their substantial reinforcements approached fast unmolested behind cover of the walls before the Amis were able to get much over there. With the Japs still threatening to reclaim the temple, the Amis weren't able to shift their entire force west, most of whom made their way through the gap between the bamboo and swamp. Start of Turn 3 saw the Amis lose a squad to a HS for the Japs, and on the bottom of the turn the Jap mortars got busy laying smoke cover. A banzai caught the Amis offboard near the bridge, and they traded another squad for a Jap HS. They survived heavy advance fire, and were even able to surprise the Japs in CC, but chose to withdraw to the safety of the palm gap. Meanwhile in the east the Japs reclaimed the temple, and busted up the squad next door to them. Turn 4 saw a common theme continue when the Amis traded a squad for a HS. Japs ran out of smoke on their half of the turn, but lucked out breaking the 9-2 and accompanying squad. This opened the door for yet another banzai, and when defensive fire was unable to halt anyone the Amis conceded. This started off interesting enough due to its unique situation, but quickly developed into whomever controlled the bridge first would win. One playing of this was enough for me.	buser333
Kicked to the Curb	A lot of open ground to cover or at least a lot of 4 even shots to endure as the Poles. Setting up eight squads per board limited the Poles' ability to concentrate their forces. My MMG kill stack lost a squad and MMG pinned on the first turn and by the time it caught up they all broke but the leader which rolled snakes to send them all berserk. Poles couldn't pass a basic MC despite good morale and this made advancing difficult. By turn five I hadn't captured any of the Russian buildings and threw in the towel.	Nicho11

Bread Factory #2	A technical win due to my hidden Squad upstairs in the Victory building. I had a lot of good results on the IFT but the Germans would not break. One even battle hardened. My gully side defense collapsed. In the end I used a lot of smoking mirrors to present target fixation so the Germans didn't move upstairs. Poker tactics but, Dave gets the Moral win in this for sure.	Blaze

Hunters From The Clouds	An expanded, and slightly better, version of "Tumult From The Clouds". I appreciate the extra board and the fact that none of the objective buildings are Stone. I really have to get it in my head to drop further away from the enemy as the Germans would be better helped by using the movement they'll need to get to the objective to find their weapons and having a more useful 5 FP per Squad. The pillbox placement is pretty tough to choose with the expanded map area...	Jobbo_Fett
In Front of the Storm	A very interesting scenario. I was playing the French and feel like we had a lot of win probability movement just within the last half turn. My armor tried to make its way around the AT minefields but in the process lost one AFV and the other was lost to the 37L, probably due to my AFV being forced to move in VPBM which slowed him down significantly. A great little scenario with a lot of set up options for the defending Germans. A thought for some play balance (since it leans a little German) would be to add an SSR which gives the German 37L a HE depletion number, like 9 or 10 or reduce its ROF to 2 when firing HE. The Gun was a bit too devasting to my infantry on the bridge, largely due to ROF of 3. Overall, a great scenario and pretty balanced. The attached log is the last half turn where the French tried to obtain Control of the last two VC hexes. Of note, it could be a fun half turn to play from the beginning, because both sides have hard choices to make. (VASL Log)	CWO_19

Dean's Defiance	Interesting scenario with the North Koreans coming from everywhere and trying to exit. The Americans played a patient defense. The 10-3 stayed with a squad and an MMG which did cause some damage, but I think putting him with the BAZ 50 might be more destructive. The T34s stayed away from the bazookas mostly, not giving them a good shot. The Americans made good use of wall advantage which limited the use of the NK reinforcements from SSR 4.	dmareske

Battlin' Buckeyes	Things didn't start so well for Magnus when after the first turn both his BAZ were lying on the ground unattended after I knocked out both wielders. My tanks were very cautious, positioning themselves in case of a pinching entry of his tanks from the north or east. Turn 2 saw my 9-0 get brained by a sniper and break the gun on one of my tanks. But it was no shock when he chose to enter his tanks to support the village. Turn 3 saw me continue to muscle my way into town, eliminating an Ami squad and stunning one of his M7s in the process. Turn 4 got decidedly more bloody as we traded squads on the first half of the turn and I immobilized and knocked out his stunned M7. Not knowing which of two stacks was his real at-start M7 I was very cautious with my own tanks, but I figured I had a tank to burn and used one to create a land bridge across the street to the temple. No surprise when I lost him on the bottom of the turn, but I did dispatch his 8-1 and a HS. Turn 5 was all Japs as I eliminated a squad and a crew, and finally exposed the dummy M7. With just one more building in the east to grab to get to 22 I was ready to sit back on my laurels and let him come to me. Which of course he did on Turn 6. Trying desperately to take back the temple he lost two squads, while I lost one and burned a DC. He also went tank hunting, swarming one of mine with an M7 and M18. But when my sniper brained the crew of the other M17 it was all a moot point whether he'd knock me out or not and he threw up the white flag. Not really the most exciting game, as it got a bit static after I grabbed the northern buildings.	buser333

Luchs on the Lookout	Fred misread the German set up instructions, So he placed all infantry sithin 2 hexes from 70X10. But the game was won by the russian destroing 4 German AFV, a couples of tricky LOS costed Fred 2 AFV. When the forth went up in flames he throw the towel. 2 Pz. fall to the BA6, 1 Pz. to the GUN and the HT to the ATR, last PzIIL was immobilized by the BA6	cosarara

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
