Overview:

In the spring of 1944, elements of the Großdeutschland en route from southern Poland to Vinnitsa were ordered to suppress partisan bands that were paralyzing communication with the 6th and 8th Armies defending Romania. One of the ensuing encounters occurred when the approximate location of a partisan group was ascertained. . .

2024-10-20(D) Vic Lauterbach vs TS German winTrevor picked the Germans in this small classic. I opted for a loose perimeter around the VC clearing with a few outlying MMC. The best chance for a partisan win is staying hidden until turn 5 then exiting, but it makes a dull game. The woods restrict LOS, so I used the gun to cover the dry stream. A row of minefields could trap my squads instead of stopping the Germans, so I put them where they might break Germans hunting for partisans near the board edges. Trevor's force entered on the north and west edges away from the gulley. Some early K/# results slowed the attack, but the vice closed on turns 3 and 4. Set DCs on two trenches full of partisans broke my defense plus losing the gun and crew (4 VP). Once my 9-1 was killed, I couldn't rally enough MMC to exit, and Trevor got his 15 VP in turn 5. Fun game, although pro-German, the HIP setup gives it high replay value.
