Overview:

The 1st Panzer Division was advancing southwest and had seized Montcornet. Generalleutnant Friedrich Kirchner though injured, insisted that his division must continue to advance. As part of this, German motorcycle reconnaissance troops and armored cars pushed into Chivres. Unfortunately for the lightly armed and equipped Germans, Colonel de Gaulle had launched a counterattack with his 4eme Division Cuirassee. Leading this attack was Capitaine Jean-Charles Idee's 345e Compagnie Autonome de Chars (D2 tanks) reinforced with a few Char B1-bis tanks and truck mounted infantry. The Char Bs led the attack down Grand Rue across the marsh that lined both sides of the road.
Attacker: French (Elements of 1re Compagnie, 4e Bataillon de Chasseurs Portes, 345e Compagnie Autonome de Chars, 4eme Division Cuirassee)
Defender: German (Zug1 and other elements of Aufklarungs-Abteilung 4, Panzer Division 1)

2024-06-06(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins German win
2024-06-06(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winThis scenario is very tough for the French and the ROAR STATS bear that out. Germans lost both Armored Cars and did nothing with them. The Germans on the southside were reduced to a single half-squad that survived the entire game and took a French half-squad in the final CC. The German MMG was on the hill and broke up the French moving across the causeway. The French tanks all got across when I rolled a 10 on the DC which was set on the bridge. Dice sucketh majorly. The French tanks didn't have enough movement to overrun the German 4-6-8 on the hill with the MMG. They did get a 75 hit in Advancing fire with a K3 result. But the half-squad passed the MC and that was game. A very improbable German win. And again, very tough on the French, when the Germans are able to win with just a single half-squad. It is a fun scenario though and I would recommend playing it if the opportunity arises.

2018-06-24(D) Ian Morris vs Joel Ayres German win
2018-05-03(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall German win1.75 hrsWe switched sides and, in the process, switched strategies for the German defense. Where Magnus was more focused on clogging up the road, I was concerned more with spreading my men out to make it difficult to account for them all and thus delay his cleanup on the south side of the causeway. I kept a couple half squads adjacent to the road to lay some annoying residual, while my AC set his sights on the causeway entrance to place some more significant residual. Things didn't bode well for me when my first half squad cowered and thus left no residual, but after that it was nothing but marksmanship for the Germans and bad luck for the French. The opening Turn saw two French trucks wrecked (with all contents killed), two squads broken, and their sole leader busted as well. We played out the German side of the turn but there was virtually no hope for the French so we called it.
2018-05-01(A) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall German win3.75 hrsI didn't really care for this scenario at first but it really grew on me as we finished it and subsequently played it again. For a seemingly-scripted scenario it has a fair degree of replayability. The Germans set up bunched on the road approaching the causeway. This pretty much foiled my plan to drive across it as quickly as possible and I instead situated my force to blast him with as much firepower as possible while his infantry were still mounted. His attempt to drive away met with disaster as he was eliminated or broken to a man, and his AC was dispatched. The following turn I moved as quickly along the causeway as possible which, due to its narrowness and the AC wreck, proved agonizingly slow. His last AC parked on the bridge, where it was soon to become scrap metal, but in the process created more of a logjam (made worse by my supposedly brilliant idea to keep shooting at it until it was burning). In the end it came down to a mad dash to enter into as many melees as possible to cause his men not to be good order, but one successful ambush withdrawal on his part ended the French hopes.
