Air Assault on Drvar	A very difficult task for the Germans, having to reorganize after landing. Two victory conditions are possible, but eliminating Tito should be by far the most difficult to achieve. The allied reinforcements took a heavy toll on Germans. They were way too far from victory. Far From Home	1936 tournament final. IMO a very hard scenario for the Republicans to win. The turn 3 reinforcements are not strong enough to make much of a difference and the turn 4 reinforcements come in too late to make it across the boards to the Nationalists village. The Nationalists have more end game VPs than the Republicans. So if the Nationalists take a hold 2 or 3 buildings that earn VPs on the first three turns, they don't have to push any further. Coiled to Strike	Very difficult attack for the Germans due to their piecemeal reinforcements and naked approach. They get two onboard smoke generators to kick things off. I used one to smoke in a PB, but the other had none. That won't get you far when breaking here is like the desert. Thus I cautiously advanced by men (setup entirely in the east), maintaining concealment, until support could arrive. Turn 2 saw my men venture onto Board DW-3a, searching for mines to pave the way for the armor. No surprise we knocked out the dug-in T-50 with our StuGs who ganged up on it. My reinforcing infantry rode in on trucks from the west, congregating in the middle of the board, and on foot from the east. We lost a squad to add to the HS lost on Turn 1. but lost all three of our light armor (two outright to the INF gun, the other immobilized). Turn 3 saw our infantry surge through the field toward the hill, but we were having trouble getting to the first set of buildings due to numerous wire and mines. A lucky break was found when his heroic 9-2 was killed by a bomb, as well as 1.5 squads. We also sent the INF crew and HMG squad running to mommy. Turn 4 saw our men congregate around the base of the hill, and us grab our first building, but the loss of the planes was going to be no small hurdle to overcome. Another fortunate break went our way when gusts caused a fire in one of his still-hidden AT gun's hexes, eventually burning it up. We permanently lost an HMG. What was a fairly interesting game up to this point grew really stagnant due to the combination of losing our planes, the arrival of the Russian one, his very effective reverse slope defense, and lack of smoke (all weapons were out by this point). A HS turned fanatic running through the mined buildings as he grabbed two more. Turn 5 saw us give up the hopeless attempt to get to the 2nd level hills, instead veering toward the lightly defended VC area around the small hill. Turn 6 saw another diverting force try to move in force to grab the far building. Despite some fantastic shooting from a Marder with seemingly endless HE eliminating all but one squad on the small hill, both these branching attacks were slowly but surely being depleted. When Turn 8 prep was absolutely abysmal the Germans threw in the towel. In retrospect, I think the Germans have to have a show of force against all VC objectives from the get-go, and go balls to the wall out the gate. The lack of rally terrain and eventual arrival/loss of the planes should foil all but the most determined/lucky attacks though.	buser333

Show of Force	FNF game. The defence got off to a great start when the German Tiger stopped in a location that had been bore sighted by a T-34. It is one of the obscure parts of the rules that a DI shot can use bore sighting even though it can't use acquisition. The T-34 duly got the hull hit that it needed for the immobilization and, even though it was destroyed then the Tiger returned fire, it was a worthwhile exchange. A second panzer was taken out by a rear ATR shot By turn three, the Russian defences were still largely intact and Chip decided that it would be impossible to clear all the victory buildings and conceded. Hill 27	Double One 2026 - Mini AM I setup most units out of potential LOS, the only units were half-squads manning the light mortars.. The Japanese were unable to generate smoke which hampered their efforts to ascend the hill.	Paul Legg

Jungle Citadel	Japan setup a panji line across left side before the first objective along with two hip squads waiting in ambush. Dean tried using smoke down the middle to obscure his troops but then realized the cost in movement it was causing as I double down with some Japanese smoke as well. He has extremely bad luck crossing the panjis as the found almost every one and failed the check almost every time. He then funneled an over stacked mass of Chinese into the jungle hex right into my HIP ambush that just annihilated them. With a vast majority reduced or broken from panjis and half a company's worth killed from CC, he conceded as he did not have enough critical mass to continue forward.	feralhuntsman
War of the Rats	Teaching session for German player. Russians made some tactical errors like trying to stay in L7 and Prep Fire vs vacating to fight another day. Duel in the Desert	This is a classic meeting engagement. In this case, the die roll decides who enters first. The setup is structured so that the advantage enjoyed by the first player to enter and take up position is offset by the fact that, having reduced mobility, he will not be able to make use of the desert terrain features that allow both sides to go Hull Down, namely sand dunes and deirs. The player entering second, on the other hand, can concentrate his Schwerpunkt on a specific point of the map and, precisely for that reason, can go Hull Down. The British have smaller-calibre guns, and therefore lower penetration, but slightly stronger armour than the Germans, so the armoured component is fairly well balanced. In our game I entered first, concentrating on the right-hand side and trying to control the left from the centre of the map, with the idea of reaching the dunes in two turns. I sent the en portée forward on the first turn with ESB, unloaded one infantry platoon into the deir on the right, and kept the support weapons and another platoon on the trucks while waiting to see how Fred would move. The Germans went Hull Down across almost the entire map, concentrating their effort to counter mine. What followed was therefore a battle of attrition, from which I emerged victorious. As many as four AFVs broke their MA on turn 4. When a long-range shot from a 2 FP MG destroyed a truck with two squads on board, the CVP gap became impossible to close — 32 for me, 14 for him — and he therefore conceded. A very nice scenario, and one that exemplifies desert scenarios well.	cosarara

No Dubno	The scenario is scripted around the possible attack axes. The map leaves very little room for maneuver, and what can be done is easily predictable. This brings the Russian little room for maneuver his tanks under the fire of the German guns, where the armor gap really makes itself felt. There is no contest. The Russian tanks simply have no chance against the German AFVs: their armor is far too light. In practice, the game was over on Turn 1, when the KV — the piece on which the whole Russian attack depends — broke its gun and then rolled a 6 on the repair attempt. Maurizio’s low rolls did the rest. But I repeat: the real problem is that the scenario has no variety. I do not recommend it.	cosarara

Dawn Assault at Mednoye	Germans squeaked out a win with effective shooting from the one unmalfed AT gun and rolling a number of 3s in the final zerg rush. The Russian was handicapped by solitary tanks that declined to move and conscripts that declined to rally.	aiabx

Escape from Derna	German used set-up found in on-line AAR, consisting of an arc of defenders in the forward hexes of their set-up zone. The guns were HIP in scrub. The British led with the tanks, which laid down smoke and dust, so that the following 88's could set-up near the board edge. Several vehicles bogged in the shellhole hex, but none immobilized thanks to one tank that held back to push. The German AC came in groups of 2 or 3, spread out across the front. The Germans decided to head east behind the hillock, the tanks taking HD positions behind. All of the AC were destroyed over the next few turns, to one destroyed British tank and two immobilized. The 88's neutralized the two western AT guns, and the third, to the east, was overrun by a flanking carrier. The infantry unloaded as soon as they reached the top of the escarpment, and none were lost throughout the scenario. The British smoked the remaining positions with luck, and exited the 50 VP by turn 8.	Guru Bob

11th Company Counterattack	Interesting situation. Finnish tanks went low ammo early and only got one hit (PTC result). One disabled and recalled and the other got the DC placed on it after it fired it's MA resulting in a burning wreck. Good order Russians were still in several locations around the map on turn 5 and the Finns couldnt get to them all... TTT2026	nebel

Poteau Party	When I saw the amount of German material coming at me, I wondered how the Americans show as favored in ROAR and why I gave the balance. The CVP cap is the answer. One Panther dead is a quarter of the CVP cap. The Americans won this match when the Germans had gone half way across the board. We had heavy falling snow from the first turn onward.	mtrodgers99

The Bridge at Ramelle	My Americans rolled extremely poorly on the initial Defensive Fire. Dan's Germans created a Hero and KIA'd my hero in the Belltower and broke the 7-0. I MALF'd my first Bazooka shot and that was game. I conceded after Dan's Tiger got a crit hit on a pinned 7-4-7 on the bridge, which KIA's the 7-4-7 and destroyed the SET DC. I was not meant to win this one...the Dice Gods have spoken.	grumblejones
The Lion, Driven	Came down to last player turn, Three CCs near the southern board edge failed to achieve any results leaving the Japanese “not in GO” adjacent to the VC road. The FINAL CC was a 248 that advanced into J2 with a 347. The Japanese obtained ambush, but Chad had expertly blocked all VC hexes forcing an attack (vs. an ambush withdrawal). The Japanese 3-2 (-2) attack prevailed for the win. The game went to FINAL CC DR. A super fun scenario!	Houlie

Damsels in Distress	Early Greek losses to hot dice were soon replaced with breaks and eventual losses by the Italians. The Greeks still had a hard time of it, getting to the top of the hill around Turn 4, which limited how many partisans would appear in the town to help out the attacker. There's a neat dynamic with having to protect the prisoners, prevent the Greeks from getting to Level 3 on the hill, and also preventing them from entering the town and taking advantage of the high TEM afforded. For me, it came down to the last CC roll and a bad enough roll that the Italian Squad was only reduced, not killed, and thus they sealed the victory. Easily replayable, not too complex.	Jobbo_Fett
Destined to Defeat	Entertaining this one... Very much recommended but definitely a meatier scenario than it looks. Lots to think about. I had a little Jap mortar fail to bring smoke to protect his tank buddies but instead rolled consecutive CH on the stuart instead. Stuart down crew bailed and down... Japanese then pushed gleefully forward with one squad moving adjacent to some green-o's who decided to FPF... and roll snakes - wait that doesnt cower off - that's an HOB going berserk to kill the squad and then charge one of my tanks. Down to the wire it's AFPh - I felt good with control of all but one stone building that had a DC on it adjacent to a wood building with the HMG and Squad where I also placed a good DC... DC goes off and gets a 3MC but it's snakes and HOB with a hero. I get the stone buildings but cant stop the hero and squad from getting back into the fortified building. game over... I could not get ambush w/stealthy japanese against the Filipino lax HS... kept getting mutual kills.	nebel
Per L'Onore Di Roma	This is a quick one. My mortar got rate in the first half of first turn and decimated 3 squads and a leader. They routed to some woods where i continued to hammer them for the next 2 turns until only one HS left. Elsewhere I blunted most of the initial offensive in good position to hold the village. His reinforcements had a good flank move on the South entry but i got a good roll on a 1 flat and pinned the leader and one crew and broke another crew and two squad. At that my opponent couldn't handle the Italian bravery any further and conceded. TTT2026	nebel

First Matanikau	Our match was a fun, but bloody scenario with lots of CC casualties on both sides. The Americans won with a lot of CVP and all but one huts.	mtrodgers99
Rough Recess	Russians concentrated their attack in the South where the German defense was more sparse, complemented by a center and Northern force primed to use Armored Assault. The Southern wing made good progress in taking VC buildings but the center and Northern wings took time and casualties getting across the round to complete the pincer. Meanwhile, the 50L in S66 wreaked havoc on the Southern force. However, the pincer move eventually worked, collapsing the Germans in on themselves, but the Russian victory cost them dearly and was a near thing - only the margin in surviving mobile AFVs gave them the 10th VC point. A good scenario with repeat playability - the Russians need to move and take risks while also not giving back what has been taken.....	Thompsonmg(MGT)
A Kick in the Teeth	Despite getting rid of two of the British tanks fairly early in the game, Brian got across the dry river rather easily and speedily. I struggled with the early setup of troops and ultimately failed to capitalize on my HIP and concealed units, although my guns did have a great setup and took out the first tank with my first shot I believe. Managed to survive to the final CC in one of the VP buildings but failed to utilize any Tank Hunter heroes or DC heroes. Won't make that mistake again!	mdhs2k

Fontenay By Day	When the Creepy Barrage lifted I only had a couple HS sere behind it. I pincher attacked as the flanks were lightly defended. Moved quickly to the rear of the village and then the OBA pinned Germans in the church. This is a big complicated scenario and it was fun. TTT2026	nebel

Take It Back	A fun game which came down to the final turn. In hindsight I could have done a better job at placement of HIP units and overall units in general. A tight board in terms of LOS, so if a unit/SW is misplaced it makes it very difficult to defend. Thoroughly enjoyed the match. Woody taught me the consequences of a poor set-up.	mdhs2k

Toridasu!	Something of a dicey game, with few long range weapons, largely with B11, and Light Dust. Rich came on using the northern ridge to protect his entry, which could have ended badly for him as the 76 ART was facing that section. 76 malf'ed on 2nd or 3rd shot without a hit, and promptly disabled. The Mongol MMGs were pretty good, especially using firelanes, which slowed up the cavalry, but collapsed in a heap from the inevitable 1MC from a 6fp attack (inevitable because it had to happen being the target of much fire). Jap tanks ran the length if the board to take furthest hill, and then return to the central hill. Jap victory sealed in the fional CC Phase when a Mongol sqd got reduced trying to withdraw from melee into a vacant 3rd level hex. Mongols were annihilated.. (VASL Log)	Minedog

Roma Victor	Nick had a stellar attack. He continually forced the issue with me and then on turn 4/5, his artillery really put the punishment to me. In the end, great win by the Italians, and the German Bridge Engineers is a pretty unique twist. Great fun!	von Garvin
Amerikanskaya Suka	Played the Russian in this one. My opponent covered every multihex building with something. At the price of a burning Truck which tood a squad with it, a T-34/85 tank blown up, and a 628 squad broken, which never came back until we stopped, I managed to break through the forward German defense and to grab the 71N4 building early. Besides that, I rushed a truck into the FrFA village to unload next to a multihex building with a stack of two counters in it, which did suspiciously not attack. It turned out not to be a Dummy but a halfsquad, which I overcame in CC. This would force the Germans to assign some units to the FrFA village to kick me out of there again. The main push of the Germans with all Panthers came came from the south-east aiming at the 71Z6 building. A minor force, which did include an 8-0 Leader and the FT entered to evict me from the FrFAZ5 building. While the latter worked without much ado, the Germans lost one of the Panthers close to the 71Z6 building after what proved to be a too bold move. Besides that, there was nothing much I could do against his Panthers, which - in turn - killed two of my M-10s which had tried all sorts of shenanigans to get at them. I could slow the German infantry approaching the 71Z6 building a little wasting some good opportunities to no effect. In the northern bd71 village, the situation was much better: I had captured two squads and the 8-0 Leader and eventually also appropriated both German MGs. The German 7-0 survived an overrung by a T-34/85 but at long last paid the ultimate price after repeatedly re-DM'ing one of my squads when the Russian 9-1 fired the captured German LMG from the HIP like Rambo, cutting down the German Leader with snakes. To improve my options in that building, after pondering the matter for a good while, I went "Russian" and decided to Massacre two squad-equivalents worth of German POWs plus their captured 8-0. My position in the 71N4 village was strong enough, that I could even despatch one 628 to break through into the Russian rear, also capturing the 71Q3 building. Since the Germans only had two squads plus the PSK but no leaders left in the bd71 village, the cause there was practically decided in favor of the Russians, So the game would be decided over the 71Z6 building. When it became clear, that the Russian position in the bd71 village was consolidated, I grabbed the chance just in time to rush over 3x 458 with 2xLMG next to it. So the decisive cluster of building was well manned. It played into my hands, that two burning wrecks kindled the grain in front of the 71Z6 building, which impeded the powerful German infantry advance. In the 71Q9 area, a cluster of three Russian AFV had cornered one of the Jagdpanzers, which survived the initial swarm popping Smoke and going into Motion, but in the upcoming turn, the writing for it was on the wall. From that area on the flank, I would then be able to cover the street in front of the 71Z6 building. At this point, we called it a day: There were two terrain blazes and three flames in the grain, the 71Z6 building cluster was strongly manned, the approaches along the street in front of that building covered by AFV fire and a potential FireLane of the captured German MMG. Despite two of the powerful Panthers still operational, it appeared that the challenges for the German infantry would be too hard to overcome in the time which was left. von Marwitz	von Marwitz

Night March	A short nighttime skirmish to warm up before the CG. I took a bold approach by creating two Kill Stacks, sending out half-squads first to remove the “?” from the defenders. After a brief exchange of fire, the Germans fled into the darkness or surrendered, and the Red Devils quickly moved toward the bridge. Note: According to the Arnhem Special Rule in TB3, only German SMCs are SS, while German MMCs are not SS !	Ireneusz

The Katanas Come Out at Night	What seemed like a very grim and torrid time for the Japanese struggling across Board 73 was eventually made good by a Banzai charge up the hill. The main difficulty with the scenario was not the night rules, but the terrain changes.	Minedog

Odessa Madness	Hard to write much about something that saw two turns of action. Not much fun when your opponent rolls three snakes during a half turn, killing two AEs and breaking another two squads. It was my turn for good rolls on his half of the turn. Unfortunately for me that meant rubbling the two hexes of the very obvious VC building, ending the game early. This was a risk I knew was very possible, but when a large number of his key assets are sitting in it what does one do. Looked much better on paper than it played.	buser333

War of the Rats	The Germans' main attack came from the northeast in an attempt to get an early foothold into the VC buildings. Out west, a diversionary force kept the Russians from shifting reinforcements to the east. An early push from the Germans was met with well place fire from Russian 1st line squads forcing the Germans to temporarily fall back. Russian conscripts attempted a mad dash to try and bolster their positions, but the German counterattack arrived before they could get to the front lines and soon they had a foothold across the street. The Russians withstood withering fire and were able to lock the Germans in melee in several buildings. It was the Germans who first broke out of melee and began to push west to envelope the Russians currently engaged with a small force of Germans still across the street. The Germans broke another melee and moved to establish a defense in anticipation of the expected Russian ad hoc shock group to come... but for the Russians, the reinforcements, late to arrive, we forced to through everything at the eastern building. The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
