Bofors Bashing	Germans landed their gliders west and south of the airport, half on the hill. The Bofors guns were facing mostly away and no gliders crashed. The Germans sent a platoon around the east flank, but it never did more than distract and hold that flank in place. A platoon moved in from the south, but was eventually eliminated except for a mortar hs in P8. The rest worked their way along the crest of the hill to attack from the northwest. Two AA guns malfunctioned and one of those was eliminated trying to repair, so the other did not attempt to repair, but was heavily defended in and around k6. The G8 gun was captured and spiked around turn 4 or 5. Every attempt by the Germans to advance after the dust settled was met with withering fire. Finally the Germans had to make a mad dash on turn 7. 8 squads or halfsquads rushed for the final gun. Seven British units gave fire, no MG remained in action. 8 rfp counters were laid down across the airfield. One German hs was KIA, one squad was reduced and two squads were pinned. The rest ended adjacent to the Gun and KIA's the crew in AFPh. The Germans advanced in and possessed the Gun in the last rally phase. The British prep fire into the hex caused two HOB results. The first hs went berserk and was no longer good order for gun destruction. Only it was the second hs that had recovered the gun. It rolled battle hardening, so it was able to destroy the gun in the DFPh for the victory.	Guru Bob

Shaggy Shootout II	Turn 1 and the game was done. My recommendation...don't waste your valuable time on this scenario. The Aussies have to set up stacked in air burst terrain and the Japanese get to set up second and blow the Aussies up on Turn 1 Prep...which they did to me. The gun wounded my 7-0 with a K4 result, which broke the three squads. My shots didn't do anything. On Aussie Turn 1, my 8-0 stack fired adjacent and did nothing. Then my 9-1 advances towards a dugout with a 1-4-7...by SSR...the hills required 4 MP to move and thus no Assault Move available...so the 1-4-7 had 2 -2 shot and Dan rolled a signature "3"..KIA'd the stack. I conceded at that point. This is my opinion...but this is the worst scenario design I've played in 30 years of ASL. That's all I have to say about that...	grumblejones

Crossing Chaos	Gary Fortenberry is one of my favorite designers, and I have played and enjoyed many of his scenarios. So, although Crossing Chaos looked rather claustrophobic and mostly like a teaching exercise on how to cross a bridge under fire, me and Fred decided to give it a try anyway.(we had already taken out all the counters before looking closely at the map, and putting everything back seemed not worth the trouble). Unfortunately the scenario was a complete disappointment. The bridge-crossing problem may have some value but with no room for maneuver: you have to cross the bridge, that's all. The breakdown of both GUNs and one LMG certainly affected our final result, and I believe a competent German player can eventually force the crossing. The real problem is that, while the German at least has some problem-solving to do, the French player has almost nothing to decide after a fairly obvious setup: just roll low and hope to maintain ROF. That is basically the whole scenario. Strongly not recommended, although at least it is very short.	cosarara
Auld Lang Syne	My thoughts prior to playing this scenario: Germans have too many machine guns 8 machineguns for 13 squads...a little much for the Carolina League. German officers...also too many-6 for 13 squads...really!?! And Germans get to set up and Prep Fire on unconcealed Americans with 6 morale...oh after they endure a 100mm Bombardment. Right up front...as the American Player...I'm just waiting to see who long I last before I concede. But you look at the ROAR results and it's 40 to 34 pro-German...not catastrophic. So...let's see how this scenario plays out. Yep...played out as expected. German Kill Stacks were not stoppable. Too many machine guns...surprised this scenario passed muster with MMP.	grumblejones
Sink's Encouragement	[This is a playing of the updated scenario from Exp Pack #1 2nd ed] Germans in St. Come du Mont were surprised by the mortar barrage with American rounds falling effectually in several locations. Using the cover of orchards and hedgerows, two platoons of Americans rushed in to the edge of town to set up a base of fire. Fire from German positions in the center and north of the town keep the Americans pinned down in the orchards and forced some squads to retreat, but most of the Americans managed to advance to the edge of town to gain a foothold. The Germans then repositioned in preparation for a counterattack keeping the few routed Americans from rallying. The lead platoon of Americans at the edge of St. Come du Mont laid down suppressive fire as reinforcements moved up to solidify their foothold in town. Pockets of German resistance made the going tough for the Americans, but soon the paratroopers' firepower overwhelmed the German positions. As the Germans began to fall back, the Americans quickly followed not giving the Germans a chance to regroup. Ultimately, the Americans seized control of St. Come du Mont. (VASL Log)	toddgrx

White Beach 1	Great scenario for starting to learn caves and landings. That Japanese ATR did some serious damage, sinking several LVTs with snakes eyes, including the one carrying the FT. The NOBA did a fantastic job obliterating the hill and took out the ATR and MMG along with a mortar crew. Another LVT hit a mine just before landing and the few Marines left that landed took some nasty mortar fire and small arms that left Dean with only a few good order squads left.	feralhuntsman

Timoshenko's Attack	4 player team game, Played the Germans and Russians were split , Mikko Lukkari Board 11 and 458s, Jarkko Autio at board 22 with Tanks and 527s, and Lauri Marrittia at Board 10 with the 447 horde. Great fun, and very intense experience as the German. The Russian won on Board 11 managed a 14 VP exit through Residual firepower and firelaes,	asloser

Dash for the Bridge	Germans found it hard to score a hit on moving, small target tanks. Hugh exited three T70's on turn 2 and of course he rolled a 6 which brought them back on turn 8. I'd only kept one ATG off-board so he was still able to exit his tanks without coming back on board. I should have formed a better, up front defence.	Nicho11
Langoan Airfield	The Japanese landings went poorly and of all things the SW landed in swamp. The Japanese approach stall a bit too much and when the banzais started it just wasnt enough to get all the control points fast enough.	feralhuntsman

Highlander Victory	Fun little scenario. As the Germans I was ready to throw in the towel by turn 4 after Doug captured the bridge, but the dice gods decided to smile down on me by granting me an extra leader (Leader Promotion from self-rally) and then rolling lots of snake eyes.	Cuddles McDeath
Terrible Trouble at Tecklenburg	Fun game which went to British T5, with the British in a winning position having inflicted casualties and gained enough multi hex Buildings to cross the points total needed, if retained til Game End. German T4 ended with a CC which turned into a disaster with the loss of an Elite Squad, HMG and a Squad of residents despatched with a snake eyes from the British. The Germans were on 15CVP, so were only 3 Pts from Victory themselves, but if they gained those points before game end, it was an automatic defeat for the British. British T5 was cautiously played with disengagements along the lines to avoid gifting any unnecessary casualties, with only one British Leader with two Full Squads occupying a Building almost surrounded by Germans. One German position was smothered in Mortar Smoke, so made almost ineffectual for DF purposes. This prompted a Dash attempt to extricate the British, with the first Squad successfully getting away despite desultory incoming fire. The Second squad attempted the same, but Residual fire gave a 1-2 shot, with a 3DR resulting in a KIA, and 2pts for the Germans. Finally the 8-0 Leader, but he too was caught with a MC which he failed, leaving him broken in hex with not quite enough dashing elan for a British Officer. A final DF gave the Germans a Snake Eyes, with the Officer dying with a straight KIA, and the winning CVP total for the Germans. Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat. Highly recommend this Dispatches scenario, although it was so frustrating with so much Smoke not only being available but also so often placed when needed, that the Germans were hard pressed at times. Three Comets were taken out by the Germans, but each only counted as 2 Pts as CVP only counted for Infantry and/or PRC, so just the crew for vehicles. Well played to Grant, and another fun game completed and a reminder, even a lost game can be won with another read of the VC's.	Tigernaut
A Desperate Affair	British defense was based on a blog AAR. The Germans dropped on each end of board 9 and the wheatfields of board 16. The eastern stick landed mostly offboard, but this game them cover behind the cliffs when they entered and found their weapons. The Germans were able to clear out the British positions on board 9, and could defend the hill in strength. The British need to be mutually supportive. The reinforcements landed on board 16, which was not successful, but held up any chance to reinforce board 9.	Guru Bob

Stiff Resistance	I chose to rubble the Board 22 bridge, and therefore only set up about 20% of my force down there. First turn saw the Canucks enter, scare out one of the HIPs near the bridge, and place some acqs for next turn's smoke. Turn 2 saw more than a quarter of the Canuck infantry able to cross the bridge, and a rare Commonwealth berserker. He was mowed down Turn 3 when the German squad next to him in the street survived prep fire. The batch of men behind him were sent to the rear when the AA gun smashed them up in the graveyard. But they had a new stack able to replace them, as 60% of the infantry were now across the bridge. A Sherman rolled over and made for the orchards behind the split-level rowhouse, which the Canucks secured this turn when an upper level brokie surrendered. The radio operator was disappointed when his mission was unable to be converted due to neither seeing the base level or a known enemy. Another Canuck berserker ran to his doom on Turn 4 when he was forced to charge the AA gun, and another HS killed in the streets. 1.5 squads were broken in the smoked-in woods trying to make their way to the second building. Another Sherman drove across the bridge, parking at the crossroads. The Croc finally made its appearance, following it over the bridge and staying in motion shrouded by smoke. It was do or die time for the Germans. The AT gun, holding its fire in wait for the Croc, was finally brought on board to shoot the tank parked in front of it. It was dispatched without burning thankfully, as there was a squad in that hex as well. Thankfully the gun retained RoF and was able to break him as well, maintaining concealment. Had these shots not connected I was ready to concede, as three tanks would've been too much to deal with and my crew would've at best probably been tied up in CC. The radioman had moved into better position and, between that and the Croc, I don't think I would've been able to withstand things. As it was, the Canucks threw in the towel after the gun's stellar performance. Despite the completely lopsided results for this one, I would want to be the Canucks every time, as I think they have enough time to sit and pound the Germans (who really don't have a lot of good places to hide).	buser333

Give And Go	This scenario is very hard on the Germans. It did not help that the radio operator went berserk and took the radio into the open ground before he died and dropped it. Also, critical hits on both the gun and MTR plus all three StuG 1Bs being knocked out by turn 2 left the Germans with no smoke making crossing the open ground a massacre. The woods on the flanks were covered by double rows of wire and mines. The option of purchasing reinforcement groups does not provide a game winning option for the Germans (because there is no smoke options).	Danno

Smertniki	Russians are forced to make an early choice of pushing through the obvious ambush on the road, or risking some bogs to go around. My ambush was decent, but not good enough. At that point, Phil chose to have his Russians force open the road. A small group of tanks swung off the road, with one bogging and a SU-76 getting immobilized by Japanese infantry. As the Russians started to clear the minefields, the Japanese guarding boards 17 and 2 hustled over to help hold the road. I managed to immobilize 2 AFVs and kill 2, but one INF gun was destroyed by a CH and the other had its broken crew killed by the 10-0. At that point the remaining T-34s advanced slowly towards victory, killing the final Japanese infantry at leisure. Phil knew he had time to be methodical. I conceded in Turn 7 as the only way to victory was a lengthy string of highly improbably TH-Heroes. A better set-up by me would have made this more competitive, but a cool scenario.	ubertripp

Rough Recess	Germans ended up losing one AFV to Recall MA repair failure with other taking enemy fire. Russians took out one of their own with a Mechanical Reliability DR failure. Both forces were steadily dwindled down to a hand full of Infantry spread thinly along the VC road.	Kydder
Rally Point	Germans ran into an effective group of US squads lead by its 10-2 leader and it slowly but surely broke the moral of the german units. The Germans managed to secure two houses, but US succes was never really in doubt. Fun little scenario, but a tough one for the German player.	PeterA

No Shortage of Determination	Really cool scenario, but the VC are too easy for the Polish, even with the German Balance: an extra ATR is nice, but not nearly enough to stem the Polish tide, esp. given the option of free Deployment at setup.	Houtje
Beyond the Pakfronts	The overextended halftracks made for easy pickings for the tanks, which helped bring the Russians to the CVP cap. A misreading of the victory conditions also contributed to the Russian win.	dmareske

Escape from Velikiye Luki	Played in the third round of the "Because the Night" mini-tournament. The scenario was tweaked slightly by making both sides normal for straying purposes and lowering the Russian sniper activation number by one. Gregg and I both bid for the Germans and he won the deciding dr. As balance, I chose to give the Russians an extra LMG. I anticipated that the Germans would come up one of my flanks and positioned the defenders accordingly. There was very little in the board three village but I had units in place at six hex intervals to activate star shells. The attack came up the Russian right and ran into two concealed squads with a leader and LMG. Gregg made the mistake of moving a squad in to an illuminated location on a hill which activated four squads on the hills behind the village. The Russian defences proved strong enough to prevent all but one squad getting beyond board two and Gregg conceded on turn nine. This is a fun and tense scenario and it was great to play this blast from the past! (VASL Log)	Dougban

Playtest	Play of Apple Orchard (PT2) as part of Illuminating Rounds 2026 VASL tournament. I misread the VC and scrambled to stop the North Koreans win by EVP on east board edge. Having saved that, Steve clung onto hope of a CVP victory, after taking out a Sherman in CC with a leader and hero (both wounded). I scraped the win with 1CVP to spare.	comdotski
The Fields of Black Gold	One of those scenarios where I could do no wrong, and everything Dave touched went sour. SS lost 1 squad KIA, but otherwise just marched up the hill, whilst the PzIIIs took the small hill with a pltn of infantry. By Russian turn 3 I was raking the hilltops with MG fire, killing squads outright. Dave hoisted the white flag.	Minedog

Welcome To Vietnam	A misunderstanding regarding the setup area created a deficiency in the French lines. As a result, paired with the aggressive use of Banzai charges (and some luck in breaking some key French units) meant that the scenario was in jeopardy very early on. We called it a draw around Turn 3 as it was clearly no longer a fun/entertaining scenario for either of us. After hashing it out, the scenario is just filled with issues, both with its interpretation of the setup area (I argue that the "correct" setup is all Board 37 save the "upper-right" section East of R, Above 5) and with the aggressive use of Banzai Charge from the get-go coupled with the SSR that increased higher level changes by 4MF(!) While I understand that Brush is the dominant feature, that is still a minimum of 8 movement factors, forcing minimum move in circumstances where you are not charging, and not incentivizing the Japanese to do anything else. Additionally, the strict objective of capturing ALL ID'ed hilltop hexes makes French defense a breeze, were you to set up in the top right or top left corners ONLY and simply wait for the charging attacker. Second Thoughts	Interesting concept. The Americans are the scenario defenders but, in reality, will be doing most of the attacking. Herbert seized the stone building beside the stream but didn't threaten any of the other possible multi-hex buildings. Instead, he concentrated most of his force beside the road leading to the bridges. The Americans were able to seize only building held by the Germans and held on at the end despite misplaying by allowing the Germans a chance to enter the building in force on the final turn. Polka's Dance	Another good scenario from Lionel Colin. A highly recommended scenario. To play it well, both the attacker and the defender need to be familiar with the noble art of mobile warfare. Our scenario came down to the very last die roll in a melee, but getting there required every bit of our skill. Truly highly recommended. Also excellent as a tournament scenario, given its manageable playing time.	cosarara

Danish Crossroads	NOTE: Not sure if it is part of the scenario design or an erratum - the 3x Danish 457s have "Assault Fire" printed on the counter art of the scenario card. The SSR mentions nothing about Danish units being granted "Assault Fire". Ath the same time, the 3x Danish 458 do not have "Assault Fire" printed on the counter art. We played it as if the 3x Danish 457 in fact do have "Assault Fire" as printed. This is a short 5 Turn scenario in which the Germans, consisting of 10 squads, an 8-1, two 8-0s an MMG and LMG, supported by three thin skinned PSW must clear and occupy a two hex crossroads. In the penultimate turn, they are reinforced by one PzKw IIF. The Danes defend with 8 squads, an 8-1, an 8-0, one MMG, one LMG and two 20L AT-Guns. The primary challenge for the Germans is that they will have to cross a lot of open ground to get to the village. The only cover they have are some central patches of woods, which are likely be defended by the Danish to delay the attackers. The crossroads is surrounded by a number of stone buildings, which serve as fine defensive positions for the Danish against the Germans, who won't have any comparable favorable terrain. While the German PSWs do have a sD, it's number is 6, so it is all but certain that Smoke can be created in this manner. At the same time, due to the Victory Conditions, the Germans cannot really put his AFV to the risk of being taken out while they cannot really get along not doing so. For the Danish, the question is how much of his resources he is going to spend on the "delaying" part and how much on the "stone building" defense. The broken morale of the Danish is low and they have an ELR of 2. This leaves some precarious choices. The German PSWs ar thin-skinned but two M-35 20L AT-Guns are not hard hitters. Hitting a German AFV might prove easier than to actually knock it out. This combined with the importance of the AFV for the Germans creates much of the tension of this scenario. The time frame for the Germans is tight and the Danish move last. I played the attacking Germans in this one. The challenge was to get my force forward without being shot to pieces in open ground and to get the PSWs out of harms way, for which it was necessary to find the HIP AT-Gun (the other one sets up non HIP). Since the Danish Leaders and SW may set up as if it were Night (i.e. noted on a side paper), it was not immediately apparent were the MGs' threat would lie - both for infantry and vehicles. Simply charging across open ground or plowed fields with nowhere to rout and rally to seemed out of the question, but getting a toehold in the central patches of woods, where my opponent had placed a considerable delaying force proved difficult and was time consuming. Basically, the Danish had no losses until Turn 3 and the Germans had a lot of troubles. This was aided by the Danish rolling a couple of 3s and 4s, one combination of which knocked out one of the PSWs in an important situation just short of reaching the backfield to create havoc there. I had lost a second PSW before to one of the Guns. So by the end of Turn 3 I felt that I had very little chances to win this one, as the Danish force was mainly intact. Fortunes began to change when I managed to break his 8-1, 458+MMG combo and one of his AT-Guns malfed. This allowed me to craft some paths for movement by imposing Target Selection Limits at some cost. However, my central push was gaining momentum - the question was if I had enough time left. Just coinciding with the arrival of my PzKw IIF, the Danish managed to repair the malfed AT-Gun, but at least my tank had a frontal AF of 3 instead of the AF 1 of other remaining PSW. Three CCs occurred which evolved into Melees. Luck was on my side here for sure, because two of three Melees had the odds against me, but everyone survived on both sides, thus depriving the Danish to do anything useful with his units locked in them. This provided the essential openings for the German final push: Both ATGs were locked in Melee and thus their threat to my two remaining AFV neutralized for the moment.The Danish had only little infantry left who swamped by the German infantry coming in and could not also prevent my two AFV occupying the crossroads. I won one of the Melees, establishing the Germans in a stone building, My "killer stack" of 8-1, 467+LMG had taken up positions in another. The second Melee persisted, while the Danes won the third Melee. However, they were unable to threaten my AFV due to a wall of German units in between. So with some luck, I was able to turn what I had determined to be a lost case by the end of Turn 3 and finally snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. von Marwitz	von Marwitz
The Hunters Become the Hunted	I got the FJRs in this intra-Axis clash and moved the HMG, MMG and both LMORs into overwatch positions. That made repositioning any 6-ML Italian squads very risky. I sent one platoon along the stream but the bulk of my force pushed straight across board 49. My tactics worked. Once the FJRs close in, their high morale and firepower give them a big advantage. By the end of GT7, the CVP count was 25 to 8 in my favor and I had three 548s in the castle. Renato only had a broken HS on Level 1 and a GO HS in the steeple, so he conceded. This one was frustrating for Renato due to my very low (overall) IFT and MC rolls. Also, I activated his sniper four times, but he never got a result! Wisembach Roadblock	This was a fast little scenario. Germans made a speedy approach but lost a squad 1st turn due to bail out. Belgian MMG firelanes slowed down northern approaches but southern approaches quickly overtook the MG nest. Things seemed strong in German favor as Belgian troops were mostly routed and falling back, but towards the last turn Germans realized most of their squads could not make the exit point in time. It came down to last turn preventing Belgian exits to win but a lone Belgian SMC made it off board to secure the W.	feralhuntsman

88s at Zon	Almost immediately a German 88 came to life eliminating an American squad, but that would be the first and last time a German 88 would fire this day (the next shots fired by either gun were "boxcars" and none would repair for the entire scenario). While the initial American attack stalled, the Germans failed to capitalize; leaving a squad and its leader able to rally back. The Germans moved up to attempt to stall the Americans from entering the town. As the Americans pushed in, a long German half-squad in the forward position kept a bulk of the Americans busy and moving at a cautious pace. Surviving withering fire from all sides, the half-squad, having done their job, finally pinned and succumbed in close combat. As the Americans gained a better foothold, they began to overwhelm the Germans defenses. With the 88s knocked out, their crews working frantically to get them online, the Americans swept through the town virtually unmolested. Finally, with Americans in sight, the crews abandoned their guns, took up arms and, along with a beaten down half-squad, did their best to hold off the Americans. But it was not enough as two companies from 2nd battalion and one company from 1st battalion survived the German defenses at Zon (VASL Log)	toddgrx

Guerra Relámpago	Things started a bit roughly for the Peruvians when I broke a MA, had a tank shocked by the mortar, and bungled a CC vs a PB. Turn 2 saw better progress made when the PB was dispatched, the remainder of the Ecuadorian dummy stacks was exposed, and the shocked tank recover and drive to safety. Turn 3 saw further inroads pushing into the first set of stone buildings, taking down two squads and an 8-0. The first of too many POWs was taken, granting precious deployment. The west side of the stream was toppled on Turn 4 rounding up three more squads and an 8-1 as POWs, and killing another squad and the other 8-1 who held a vital spot in R5 guarding the bridge. The Peruvians saw a squad-laden truck flamed up by the mortar, which now found itself bookended by tanks. By now three tanks had broken their MAs, but it was their superb MGs that really mattered, and those were all intact. The Peruvians blew up the mortar at the top of Turn 5. Had this not occurred I think they would've conceded, as Scott (as he is wont to do) had a very well-placed gun, threatening both infantry and tanks equally. Protected by their vanguard tanks, this allowed the Peruvians to pour over the bridge in force. But time was running low, and there were still many Ecuadorians to clear from their comfy stone buildings. The Ecuadorians knocked out their first tank with a well-placed MG shot, but by the end of the turn the attrition continued, with them losing another 1.5 squads. Time was ticking though, and getting personnel off was going to be difficult. Turn 6 had a couple important shots (P3 and R1) that had to succeed or another concession was in the works. Both succeeded, allowing the Peruvians to push some of their southern force toward the exit. The tanks moved behind the Ecuadorians, causing rout issues, and by the end of the turn they were down another three squads and 8-0. They had only one good order squad, another locked in melee, and three DM brokies. Hope was with them when two of their three squads somehow managed to bounce back, but was again dashed when their studly 447 fell to point blank tank MGs, and the unit stuck in melee was busted. Then, in a bizarre twist, one of their freshly rallied squads turned berserk (the Peruvians having begrudgingly finally declared NQ), the 7-0 who rallied them turned later, and he then converted the other rallied HS. This left no good order Ecuadorians on the board, but with their half of the turn remaining they would still have to be dealt with. FPF betrayed them when the HS failed and the squad reduced to a pathetic 126, and them and the 7-0 were easily dispatched in CC. This was a really tense game that came right down to the wire. There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
