Wildcat Strike	There was action from the start, as I played a pretty tough upfront defense, but the only losses were some dummies. A couple more were lost at the bottom of the turn, as well as a squad's worth of Amis. Two more were busted, as the Ami attack in the south went exceptionally poorly. This band of Japs would hold out until the very last turn, granting the Japs 6 VP for their occupied buildings. Turn 2 saw some real damage delivered to the Japs, as they lost a squad and had another three striped. I generally try to deploy as much as possible when playing the Japs, as there's nothing I hate more than seeing those ugly red stripes across my counters. Even more disappointing, I bungled a CC attempt on a Sherman, despite having a full squad and a leader. Turn 3 saw more engagement, as the two sides traded squads. Amis also destroyed a tunnel, as the Japs were using these heavily as part of their fallback defense. Turn 4 saw the Amis lose another HS and an 8-0, but they were on the verge of busting the entire north side wide open, with only a striped squad and 10-0 standing in their way. They were able to occupy Board 10z buildings for the first time. Turn 5 saw these same men race to the water's edge unchecked, as the MMG crew whose job it was to slow them down was pinned by a sniper. The Japs continued to be whittled away, losing a HS and MMG. But they had started racing units back to the buildings across the VC road. Turn 6 was brutal for the Japs, losing their sole northern squad and accompanying 10-0, as well as another 1.5 squads and their 9-0 elsewhere. The Amis lost a HS and burnt out their FT. But yet more Japs ran for cover across the road, bringing their total VP count to 14 in infantry and 10 from prior building points for a total of 24. The Amis had 17 VP in infantry, but only 3 from buildings, for a total of 20. Their plan was, using their three vehicles, to tie up at least one hex of Japs in melee. The first to try was the furthest away and, having to go CE to make it there via the road, it was stunned by some point blank MMG fire. The second to try drove right by the last remaining THH who, finding an ATMM, blew it bits. The third made it in bypass to one of the hexes. The 9-1 and 447 failed their first CC attack, but were able to take it out on their second (due to it having busted its CMG earlier). So a close finish but, overall, I didn't overly care for the scenario too much, especially considering the goofy end game rush it invited.	buser333

Currie's Favor	First two turns were quite. Then all hell broke loose. A lucky MTR hit (I needed a 2 and rolled a 2 followed by the critical hit additional roll), took out the 10-2 leader, a full squad (random selection, both rolled a 6) and then broke a HS. The 88LL took out two Stuarts and a Sherman. The Canadians exceeded the CVP cap by turn 4 without taking any VP buildings.	RJenulis

Corps Value	A real slugfest. The NKA managed to take out two UN tanks in addition to other casualties and it all came down to whether the attackers could take enough prisoners to get the win. A fortuitous CC result when a 447 managed to kill a 768 and 9-2 leader despite being ambushed clinched the win but it could easily have gone the other way. The NKA sniper really earned its keep in this one!	Dougban
Show a Little Guts!	Fun and intensive. Japanese player needs to be extremely aggressive and ruthless. In T2 (except for reinforcements) every single Japanese unit banzaied in three separate banzais, including 2 THH and a DC hero. Glorius, costly but broke the back of the defense.	Fiedler

Grebbeberg Heights	Came down to the last close combat. My husband needed to win two close combats to win the game. He killed my half squad, but when I rolled to get him, I rolled snake eyes, got an 8-0 leader from leader creation. It was enough to make the snake eyes to kill off two and half squads and a leader for the win.	Dispang12

Holding the Rear	Game came down to the last German movement phase. They had to get all the remaining Germans and tanks off. The Germans could not use the tanks to VB freeze the American MMG and HMG as they needed to get the tanks off . Very close game.	slunts

Seton Block	The Chinese could not stop the succession of DC Heroes without unacceptable losses and conceded in the penultimate Player Turn without enough strength to take back 5 of the 24 VC Buildings held by the Japanese.	Thompsonmg(MGT)
Dracula's Fangs	Down to the last turn CC for 2 Gun Crews. I had enough troops for >3:1 with each attack on the crews so only needing to tie them up in Melee or Kill them was in my favor. Note: both of us made OOB errors in our favor MG for me and a Trench for him so this result isnt perfect. Enjoyable to play this one as the Brits. They know what to do, where to go to win, and have the troops and toys to do it. Japanese player has perhaps more challenges but also plenty of opportunities to use their unique traits to stop the attack with ambushes and well placed MG fire. I think we both enjoyed this one and Jeff's famous custom map skills made this even better. StLouis2026	nebel

Going Against the Grain	I set up north of the hedgerow and oriented my attack primarily on the northern town to try to get around his main line of resistance in the south. While that worked, after a fashion, Jim kept picking off my Panthers so that I lacked sufficient firepower to make much headway. I lost one Panther to a hidden 76LL, one to a APDS shot at close range from a 57 MA, one to a (surprise) PIAT shot up the tailpipe from a hidden crew and a fourth was immobilized by a CH from a light mortar. I had one SP gun recalled by a Sniper and the other had low ammo after its first, and only shot. At that point I failed my Player Morale Check and called it over by the end of British Turn 3. It seems like 5 Panthers and a bunch of SS should be able to get the job done but that certainly didn't happen this time. I enjoy playing Jim but didn't have much fun with this scenario.	Agoldin

The Grist Mill	Very dicey scenario. The NKA sniper proved to be the game winner here, as it broke one and a half squads and killed the best US leader by the end of turn two. The Belgians never put K3 under any serious pressure, helped in no small measure by their AFV failing to start on two occasions due to lack of a radio. Over the Prosna	Bid for sides. German tried to attack through the stream using the woods for cover and got raked by the Polish HMG and 80MRT. Even the ATG joined in when the armor stayed of sight and eventually killed 3 HS with it's 1 IFT shots and CC. Over quick with my hot dice. StLouis2026	nebel
No Dubno	Wanted to try my hand as the Russians this playing and bid for them. Opponent left the woods flank open so I hit that side hard and a turn 1 sniper recalled one of his tanks over there. However he made up for it by getting ROF with is Pz3 and taking out two of my tanks is the first turn. My infantry surged forward and pushed him back - had a decent chance of pulling it out but the KV got knocked out by an underbelly hit coming out of the gully. Foolish mistake on my part. Legio Patria Nostra	With Castle Medici newly secured in Free French hands, the German garrison at Radicofani scrambled to assemble a hasty defense for the storm that was sure to follow. As forward elements of the 2ème Compagnie entered the edge of town, German troops dug into several key buildings, while a few squads established positions high up on the square. Caution governed the French approach along the southwest edge, spurred by lingering reports of an emplaced German PaK 40 anti-tank gun and a deadly Flak 38. Yet, the sheer momentum of the French assault proved irresistible, quickly overwhelming the forward German positions. In the push, the French uncovered the exact locations of the enemy guns. Undeterred, they skillfully pivoted their attack to the east—catching the Germans off guard just as they were reinforcing the west. Following a brief, tactical retreat, the French launched a fierce counterattack to the northeast, taking care to leave behind enough troops to reinforce their newly won foothold at Castle Medici. Though German gunners managed to keep the castle's small garrison temporarily pinned down, French machine-gun and mortar squads quickly turned their sights on the Germans holding the hill. For a tense moment, the assault threatened to stall. Then came the breakthrough: the resilient garrison at the castle managed to knock out the German PaK 40. Capitalizing instantly, they surged across the street in a furious push, synchronized perfectly with a devastating mortar barrage that inflicted heavy casualties on the hill's defenders. Seizing the opening, a platoon of Free French legionnaires rushed the deadly Flak 38 directly. The assault came at a terrible cost—the gun's brutal fire decimated the platoon, wiping out all but a single surviving squad. Yet near the castle, as desperate German soldiers rushed to reman their fallen anti-tank gun, the remaining French forces sweeping through the street proved far too overwhelming, and the position was rapidly overrun. Surrounded, their heavy guns silenced, and with only a single squad left to resist, the remaining German defenders had no choice but to abandon their posts. Brasche Encounter	By the end of Turn 2 the French were all dead and the Germans had the bridge and the foxholes although the Germans has lost a full squad to a 2(-2) from the French on turn 1. Once the French rolled in, the Germans had a tough standing up against them.	atomic
Amerikanskaya Suka	Most fun scenario I have played in a while. Eric just concentrated all of his forces on defending victory buildings and the fighting that followed was bloody with fortunes swinging back and forth. In the end, the Russians needed to capture a pinned conscript German squad at odds of 2 to 1 in CC and could only capture a HS. This allowed the Germans to retain control of the building and flood it with reinforcements for the win. Highly recommend this one.	Dougban

Good, Lucky, or Both	British troops remained disciplined and evasive. Italian shots were unable to break the British resistance. And as a last resort, the Italians were forced to run to exit the area. Alas, British defensive fire was still strong and prevented any exit of the Italians.	lt_steiner
A Polish Requiem	Germans probed early but focused on the Polish right flank. Opponent was well positioned with 3 tanks and 5 Squads and 2 9-1 leaders for the last turn push into the victory area. One tank malfed it's MA trying to clear the hill line but the Pz4 Overran an MMG position to clear the way. Aided by some infantry smoke all 5 squads were ready to advance in but I pinned one and broke one in final fire leaving 3 left. The 37* tin cans hit one of the squads in my last prep fire and KIA'd him with snakes on the result. Polish win... Key was that 4 of the German AFV malfed MA 3 of them early in the game. We played with Poles having a HS balance (did not do much during the game)	nebel

Ma Deuce Delivers	The big Tigers finished without a scratch and took out all the M-10s. A couple of good shots from the Germans were able to break the US lines and force them back, but without losing any tanks the Germans needed fewer buildings. We ended up not playing the last turn.	dmareske

Aussie Alamo	Japan pushed along the north flank and ignored the south. The southern Aussies easily fell back to defend the village and setup a killbox along the road. As the Japanese began moving into firing range they ended up extremely diced on -3 attacks against their leaders w/ stacks and kept rs KIAs on the leaders. The Japanese banzai attempt up the ridge led to a snake eyes against that leader stack, landing yet another KIA killing the leader and squad. Japan conceded as once the Aussie reinforcements hit they would be up 3 squads over Japan who were down to 1 living leader.	feralhuntsman

Moreh Melee	Steve and Jim each played 1 of the 2 Japanese detachments against Jeff's British Indians. We saw someone else on VASL playing the same scenario, we took a peek, it seems like they were counting all the huts as VC buildings, but we didn't include huts, which left 11 building locations as Victory locations. Fun and exciting play, Jeff first malf'd and then X'd both 75MM guns on the Lee tanks, the VC locations fell slowly, it was anybody's game until Turn 7 (last turn). Japanese sniper broke a squad in 2aH5 who was supporting the defense of 2aI8. One remaining 4-4-7 defending 2aI8 survived a 1MC, but was encircled by advancing fire, and was ambushed and eliminated in CC on the last turn of the game.	Jeff107
Block Busting in Bokruisk	Cowering everywhere, 12s right and left, MCs wounding a leader and killing an AT crew, and my only snakes resulted in nothing but a sniper attack against me, which destroyed my right flank. Nothing one can do. However, I had one bone-headed unforced error: I forgot to look under a counter to see that, of course, the LOS is blocked. That one's on me, and Tyche's right to be angry. As for the tactics, this may be a scenario that favors a simple skulking-hedgehog defense. But then he had no problem with his FT, and his tanks and INF gun had no problems with distant shots, so it would be tough to keep the Russians from closing quarters. Fun scenario and a delightful opponent. Well worth playing.	EJ1

Entre le Marteau et l'Enclume	This is a challenging scenario for the Germans. Forces divided and outnumbered 3:2 (more than 2:1 at the point of Russian attack). The unique start of overlapping setup areas makes routing issues a major factor. Key for the German must be holding off the reinforcing Russian wave, which is tough to do against an able opponent (such as I faced here) unless things go right with shots, MCs and rallies. They didn't in this case. Germans did get a minor foothold in the victory building by turn 5 but it was clear they wouldn't be able to secure the victory, which requires total control of the victory building. Rather than play for a draw, Germans conceded at top of turn 6. One quirk of this one is both sides have a SAN of 0 -- so feel free to take all those 1+2 shots you'd normally skip!	RMod
Eye of the Tiger	WCW7 "Eye of the Tiger" had long been on my list of ASL classics to play, and I finally got the chance yesterday at Chuck Tewksbury's Gaming Garage, taking the Waffen-SS against Ted Wilcox's Soviets. My original plan was to seize the walled compound on the German right, but when the Prinz Eugen bombardment proved largely ineffectual and the Soviet armor occupied it by Turn 2, I had to rethink the attack. I shifted the Schwerpunkt straight up the gut and committed to breaking through there. The dice certainly made things interesting. I lost the Tiger's MA, then a Puma's MA, and then its CMG on three consecutive boxcars. Failing the Tiger's repair attempt forced its recall, which, in hindsight, probably helped by taking the threat of losing those CVP off the table. Ted played an excellent game, but in the end his Russkies couldn't hold against the relentless SS assault. A few fortunate breaks certainly helped my cause: Ted immobilized one of his own T-34s on an ESB attempt and then immediately malfunctioned its MA, while my boys knocked out an SU-85 and another T-34 with Panzerfausts late in the game. I also managed to infiltrate enough infantry around the wall complex to seize a rear building, forcing Ted to divert troops that were badly needed elsewhere. By the end I held the required six stone buildings, and with insufficient manpower left to retake them, Ted graciously conceded. This has to rank among my favorite ASL experiences. The Land of Fire	The farm complex was smoked by OBA early. I decided to abandon it and reinforce the lighthouse. I should have put most of the dummies there. I had some luck killing two of the Stug, The second kill, combined with a lot of broken Romanians, induced an early concession.	mtrodgers99

88s at Zon	Seeing the paratroopers marching on the bridge over the Wilhelmina Canal, the Germans rushed forward to meet them head on heavily defending the high ground. The Americans probed the defenses on the hill, but soon realized the Germans had an unobserved 88 located in the orchards. Shifting their approach, the Americans sent two platoons from 2nd Battalion into the woods outside Zon; while their lead elements from 1st Battalion pressed on up the hill to establish a foothold. With a stroke of bad luck, the lone German 88 on the hill had a breech jam on its first firing. With one squad delaying the American advance, the Germans shifted their defenses to the opposite side of town. Seeing the German weakness, the Americans pressed the attack into Zon and overwhelmed the German front line. In the middle of town, an MG34 barrel overheated but the 88 on the hill managed to clear the breech and keep a platoon of Americans at bay for several crucial minutes. In town, the MG34 swapped out its barrel and continued to delay the Americans with withering fire, but were soon overwhelmed and broke. Meanwhile, an American squad rushed ahead to establish a forward position only to discover a second 88 lying in wait just on the outskirts of town-- they paid for that with their lives. Hearing the roar of the 88, the Americans moved off the hill and cautiously through the town desperately trying to avoid the, now two, German 88s. With the German infantry in retreat, the Americans moved to the outskirts of town and prepared for their rush to capture the bridge. For the Germans, it was a last stand defense: the hilltop 88 crew abandoned it's gun and, along with a half-squad, shifted to defend the east while two squads defended the western approach from the hill. The Americans attempted to charge the hilltop defenses and lay down a defensive smoke screen, but were only marginally effective. A squad of paratroopers reached the bridge from the east, and while another did from the west, the 88 on the outskirts of town proved to be too much for the Americans and the bridge remained in German hands... for the time being. Bovine Bolino	This looked fun on paper but was a big disappointment. Russians have little to do but hide or die. I couldn't hide long enough and failed at least 80% of my morale checks, got no APCR, and even the JS bounced his first shot.	nebel
Bofors Bashing	Germans landed their gliders west and south of the airport, half on the hill. The Bofors guns were facing mostly away and no gliders crashed. The Germans sent a platoon around the east flank, but it never did more than distract and hold that flank in place. A platoon moved in from the south, but was eventually eliminated except for a mortar hs in P8. The rest worked their way along the crest of the hill to attack from the northwest. Two AA guns malfunctioned and one of those was eliminated trying to repair, so the other did not attempt to repair, but was heavily defended in and around k6. The G8 gun was captured and spiked around turn 4 or 5. Every attempt by the Germans to advance after the dust settled was met with withering fire. Finally the Germans had to make a mad dash on turn 7. 8 squads or halfsquads rushed for the final gun. Seven British units gave fire, no MG remained in action. 8 rfp counters were laid down across the airfield. One German hs was KIA, one squad was reduced and two squads were pinned. The rest ended adjacent to the Gun and KIA's the crew in AFPh. The Germans advanced in and possessed the Gun in the last rally phase. The British prep fire into the hex caused two HOB results. The first hs went berserk and was no longer good order for gun destruction. Only it was the second hs that had recovered the gun. It rolled battle hardening, so it was able to destroy the gun in the DFPh for the victory.	Guru Bob

Shaggy Shootout II	Turn 1 and the game was done. My recommendation...don't waste your valuable time on this scenario. The Aussies have to set up stacked in air burst terrain and the Japanese get to set up second and blow the Aussies up on Turn 1 Prep...which they did to me. The gun wounded my 7-0 with a K4 result, which broke the three squads. My shots didn't do anything. On Aussie Turn 1, my 8-0 stack fired adjacent and did nothing. Then my 9-1 advances towards a dugout with a 1-4-7...by SSR...the hills required 4 MP to move and thus no Assault Move available...so the 1-4-7 had 2 -2 shot and Dan rolled a signature "3"..KIA'd the stack. I conceded at that point. This is my opinion...but this is the worst scenario design I've played in 30 years of ASL. That's all I have to say about that...	grumblejones

Crossing Chaos	Gary Fortenberry is one of my favorite designers, and I have played and enjoyed many of his scenarios. So, although Crossing Chaos looked rather claustrophobic and mostly like a teaching exercise on how to cross a bridge under fire, me and Fred decided to give it a try anyway.(we had already taken out all the counters before looking closely at the map, and putting everything back seemed not worth the trouble). Unfortunately the scenario was a complete disappointment. The bridge-crossing problem may have some value but with no room for maneuver: you have to cross the bridge, that's all. The breakdown of both GUNs and one LMG certainly affected our final result, and I believe a competent German player can eventually force the crossing. The real problem is that, while the German at least has some problem-solving to do, the French player has almost nothing to decide after a fairly obvious setup: just roll low and hope to maintain ROF. That is basically the whole scenario. Strongly not recommended, although at least it is very short.	cosarara

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
