Earned, Not Given	Amis were probably a bit too aggressive here, losing a full squad and BAZ on Turn 1 running into the hidden ART. The remaining HIP Japs all sprung up to try and hold off the Amis in the west. The eastern force did what the Amis should do from the get-go: assault move/advance. With a whopping 7 turns and only needing to move 7-8 hexes to accomplish their easy VC, they should be doing this with their entire force. Some terrible advancing fire allowed the Japs to only have to break and run one crew/MMG (already broken using sustained fire). Amis continued to be overly aggressive on Turn 2, suffering a staggering 5.5 broken squads and one squad KIA. Only one of the three CCs they initiated went in their favor, eliminating and capturing the other crew/MMG, but allowing the gun crew to sneak behind them setting up an encirclement opportunity, and another squad to get behind the lines in the east. When their broken 7-0 failed to rally, he and the 1.5 squads with him were surrounded to force a surrender. Meanwhile the encirclement vs. the 2 squads/9-1 was only partially successful, breaking one of the squads. But the subsequent sniper roll finished the job by breaking the remaining squad. With literally half their squads now eliminated, the Amis threw up the red flag. Give me the Amis every time in this one.	buser333
Chance Encounter	A very strange setup to this scenario where you have to roll dice and then only move for the first turn, along a predetermined route. You could save yourself some time with a pair of possible setups based on who wins the die roll. In either case, its such a tiny scenario where the first person to move has the advantage, since there's no real cover to hide in. The "regular" ASL scenario at least has dust and heat haze, while this one mysteriously does not. The world wonders...	Jobbo_Fett
My God, Did You See Who They Were...	A small unit size scenario where going first is based on a dice result (all units are placed in specific hexes, with very little leeway. I feel like its such a tiny scenario where the first person to move has the advantage, since there's no real cover to hide in. At least you won't suffer for very long!	Jobbo_Fett
"...Things Are Hot!"	Seeing the record on ROAR we diced for sides but gave the balance to whomever got the Germans. Things did not go well for the Americans. They lost two tanks hull down and did not get on APCR shot which made the Panthers virtually unstoppable. The Germans were able to sneak up in their winter gear and then kill a few Americans in CC.	dmareske

Kicked to the Curb	A gold old school scenario. If the Poles keep kill stacks on the flanks they'll make a game of it and press the low ERL Russian. If the Poles go up the middle it'll be alone day for them and would favor the Russian. It was a close one	Blaze

Bloodier Than D-Day	Fun little scenario, would be good for a tournament. The Commandos look overwhelming next to the pathetic dross they're facing, but they have a lot to do. I was able to get most of my starting force back to the village, albeit some of that was broken. A scorching fire phase saw Martin break most of my defenders he could see on turn 5, but my only PF of the game took out his 10-2 on a wound roll. An ongoing Melee on turn 5 blocked one of his approaches to the two possible VP buildings, and a 20+2 shot on my desperate Conscript squad only pinned it, enabling it to participate in an encirclement of his main assault force in the street, which was then pinned by the AA Gun adjacent. A close game, if the 10-2 had survived I don't think I would have won it.	Gamer72
The Ghosts From Dasburg		A15.4er
Taylor Made Defense	German's initial gains were substantial by gaining multiple British Prisoners. But British destroyed 2 AFVs with the PIATs and the Marder malfed & Recalled ... it was a stand-off for a couple turns until the last PIAT malfd and eliminated. Eventually the last AFV got a nice hit in the only building being defended with everyone breaking with much of crying.	Kydder
Fire on the Mountain	If the Italians are lucky enough to roll for AP mines, I think this scenario simply becomes an exercise in frustration for the British. Set everyone up in the back, out of sight and out of mind for the British, then wait for them to Stray, or be careless, or otherwise cause themselves their own harm. Meanwhile, you'll have a significant advantage with height, Mines, and other shenanigans to put down the attacker's attempts at getting offboard. Max Schmeling’s Right Hook	Made it through 3 of 7 turns with a German victory. This after 1 (of 4) T34/85s bogged/immobilized in rubble (w/out great LOS), 1 to CCRF (w/ ATMMs), 1 to King Tiger and the last to a conscript’s PF. Russian dice were not very good; mine were quite favorable at the right time. That was the difference maker.	Houlie
Beast at the Bridge	The Beast did its work, PFs did the rest.	dmareske
Taking Tailleville	Paul's outer ring of Germans did their job grinding down my Canadian attack and I had to rush to get to the fortified building in sufficient time to try to take it. By that time I had expended both my FTs and I had to rely on sheer firepower. After I had surrounded the building and encircled its defenders, Paul cleverly slipped some of his Germans away through the tunnel, appearing behind my Canadians, who had to hustle to get into CC against them. Meanwhile the Germans in the fortress stood firm. After repeated attacks (and poor dice rolling on my part) the German luck finally ran out as they broke from point-blank Sherman fire. Gun & Run	FNF game. The Gurkha gunners were deadly here. Four tanks were eliminated and one was shocked in the first MPh and that was game over, The Japanese need to be a bit circumspect here and try to keep a couple of tanks out of sight until the infantry have cleared the way for them to advance. Gun & Run	Friday Night Night - A lesson in how not to attack as the Japanese. It was all over in the DFPh of the Japanese 1st turn. 9 TH rolls, 7 hits, both misses with rate, 1 hit was a multiple :- all resulting in a possible shock(passed), 2 shocks and 5 kills( 1 burning). (VASL Log)	Paul Legg

Gun & Run	FNF game. David put up an excellent defence and I resigned in turn 4. The Japanese suffered the loss of 3 AFVs and the Gurkhas amassed enough CVP that I wouldn't have been able to get the difference below 18 and exit enough infantry off the north edge.	geebeehaitch
Feast Day	A tricksy win by hipping a 1/2 squad in the needed building. It took the group of Canadians 5 turns to clear that building so when they did they used turn 6 to run and capture everything else as there were no more Germans left, but they forgot to walk through the rest of the building.	dmareske

Second Wind	Enjoyed this one. Had great success w my German cats killed 11 of the Russian AFV many of them w bounding fire shots. Russian infantry rolled my landsers back but the reinforcements retook a building to lock out the Russians.	nebel

Clash at Borisovka	Switched sides while still learning. We may have gotten a few rules incorrect during play. The Russians made a dash for the south not wanting to engage with the Tigers or PzIVs, but the Germans would have none of it. While initial German fire managed to take out several T-34s, the Russians managed to swarm behind German armor and to knock out a few PzIVs. But ultimately they were no match vs the PzVIE (VASL Log)	toddgrx
A Long Way To Go	Well, this didn't go well for the Americans (me). On Turn 2, I quickly realized that I had set up too far forward and in positions that didn't leave me many shots. Most were either blocked or into several hindrances. It's never a good day when you've got to immediately fall back or when your rout paths are limited. The Germans quickly swarmed to the west and pushed forward. While another force kept the Americans busy in the east. Unable to withstand the German attack, and having few rout paths, the Americans lost two squads and a leader to "failure to rout". The Germans continued to push albeit very very cautiously which allowed the Americans in the east to rush westward in a desperate attempt to delay the German advance. Ultimately the Americans were too few to effectively stop the Germans (VASL Log)	toddgrx

Silent Death	An exercise in understanding rules of engagement and how to properly structure your CC attempts. While I think this scenario is great to learn the basics of such alone, or with a friend you've gotten beers for, I don't think this scenario is any fun at all. The Russians being locked out of making any real choices is a particularly big sticking point for play.	Jobbo_Fett

Mount Pissoderi	Nice, tightly balanced scenario. Greek 9-1/HMG in overwatch on Brd 2 had a few rate runs that broke up Italian repositioning and allowed flanking forces to scale the cliffs from behind and take the key positions. Italian AC finally overran the HMG position but too late to make the difference. Great tactical challenge for both sides, would play again with either side.	RMod
French Spirit	Great little scenario that has both sides defending and attacking. Seems a little hard on the Germans especially if the French oust the village defenders before help arrives.	dmareske

Gallabat Grab	A tale of two sets of dice, where Rootin's wasn't paying off and mine were taking advantage of the lack of TEM/Cover. I think this scenario could be improved with some minor changes, like not forcing the Italian MMG to come in DM'ed. Otherwise, not too bad of a scenario, but it does punish the Italians for the poor squad design that they suffer through.	Jobbo_Fett

Zwarts' Madhouse	Friday Night Fight Frazer unfortunately failed his PMC and conceded during his turn 3 movement. We both agreed that he could easily get 5 of the buildings, but Frazer felt the final two would be a struggle. Personally I feel there was a good chance the SS could prevail by getting some good firebases going to reduce the defenders and overwhelm in the last turn. (VASL Log)	Paul Legg

One-Eyed Jacques	After my 9-2 died in Melee in the factory my sights turned to the building on the hill. Sniper activity prevented a clear win, but in the end the Germans prevailed. I had fun driving one PZIIs around in the factory. French guns had little effect as they either missed or malf'ed on an IF shot. However, the French infantry did put up a stiff resistance. The Germans only won by a 1/2 squad.	dmareske

For the Motherland	Germans managed to retake the Water Tower and hold it with the help of the 9-2 Armor Leader in the StuH parked adjacent during the last Russian Turn push .	Kydder

An Uncommon Occurrence	A sub-optimal ESB move on the first turn resulted in one of my tanks becoming immobilised. I then managed to lose all my platoon tanks without anything to show for it. I managed to destroy one of Hugh's tanks when he rushed me but was unable to score a hit on his small target, motion tanks, despite being point blank. I threw in the towel when I was 22-5 CVP's down. First Dance	The Germans had it all over the French at the start and managed to capture the central building. Was able to dispatch the French AC's but when the French tanks arrived it was a different story. Best I could manage was an immobilisation, with my 37mm shots pinging off French armour without result. Now I know why the Jerries called the 37mm the "doorknocker". Well played by Rob. He was careful with his platoon of S35's not to present a side shot. +6 armour for the 37L makes a kill very unlikely.	Nicho11

Apples to Oranges	My Russian attackers all ended up on the Wire & in A-P Mines causing utter chaos as the Germans mercilessly rained MG fire into the hung up and broken Russians. Safe to say that the Germans won a decisive victory since their 6+1 leader as the only casualty.	Kydder
A Vast Hellish Ruin	Germans came back with a vengeance on Turn 5 with ROF terror from 37L Gun taking out three American AFV with CA changes vs Motion vehicles & out of a Dispersed Smoke hex. This resulted in Americans surpassing their CVP cap.	Kydder
Gallic Counterpunch	Jeff moved all his tanks in threes. Turn 1 saw one trio make for the north to secure the VC road there, a trifecta of platoons move straight up the middle (the area I was most concerned about his wave of infantry entering), with the last trifecta of platoons south along the road. I was fully expecting a sweeping move from the south, so I set up all but one of my guns along this route. One of my 37Ls shocked an AC, and then proceeded to bust on its next attempt. Turn 2 saw the shocked tank become a confirmed kill, another blown up in my second AT gun's bore sighted hex, and my 88 brew up a B1. But on the bottom of the turn, unable to hit on its first shot and thinking its last target ever would be driving off, it overheated for good on an IF shot. Well...this wasn't looking too good. Turn 3 saw him get a bit aggressive trying to pave the way for his trucks, smashing an H39 into my broken gun's hex and bogging. He was taken out in CC by my crew, who broke shortly after and was eliminated. My last remaining visible gun down there was blown to bits with a CH. OK...really not looking good. Turn 4 saw him make for the bridge and me bring on my last gun in the area. It proceeded to immobilize a truck, but did nothing to hurt the passengers. It then proceeded to follow suit and break on its next shot. Good thing my tanks rolled on that turn because that crew was soon broken and dispatched as well. They entered in the SE and formed a line. Lucky for me I turned a 9-1 berserk, who proceeded to convert 1.5 squads to his cause in charging my marvelously MG-laden row of metal. They were shot to bits on Turn 5. We proceeded to exchange tank-for-tank. Thankfully the one I lost had already managed to break its MA, soon to be joined by my 9-2 tank's gun. All those beautiful MGs broke up his infantry pretty well and he could only sneak enough men over the bridge to grab the first three buildings. Meanwhile I was wining the tank battle despite breaking yet another gun, and by the end of Turn 6 two more French tanks were scrap. So in the end he came up short in VP (19-29), and was blown out of the water in CVP (14-44). All this despite my horrific luck with my guns. I really didn't care for this scenario, as it's mostly all about guessing correctly with the gun placement vs the approach.	buser333
Blood on the Tracks	Hard scenario for the german...the only flame counter that begins the scenario transform absolutelly our play. Also, losing the 10-2 to Vassili Zaitsev rifle, was a big inconvenience....	Lluison
Down the Throat	I think my decision on the ranking for this scenario revolves entirely around random luck for the Italians. Considering the minimalism of the forces, you kind of have to hope for criticals in order to damage/kill the Matildas. In MY specific case, the Italians were quite successful and managed to score a decisive victory, but I can see a world where that's easily not the case and ends up being a frustrating experiment for the Italian player. I also think the side boards are unnecessary and it could be tidied up overall. Strange that THIS scenario doesn't appear to have been reprinted.	Jobbo_Fett

Heavy Metal Noise	Both sides chose the B group of reinforcements, the Germans more halftracks, speed and CVP, the Russians with more infantry to stop building control. The game went back and forth as the big tanks suffered losses. As the game wound down the Germans scrambled for more buildings and exit VP, both remaining King Tigers had Malfed MA which became not enough to exit. It was a fun game. First time doing a dogfight which saw to the eventual destruction of both Russian planes.	dmareske

Heavy Metal Noise	Big scenario - lots of different action and possibilities. Despite thin lines the Russians have enough to stymie the attack just enough and my opponent had a nice defense that did the job despite some ill timed rolls. Highlight was definitely the dogfight and winning that dice contest to have my surviving FB get a CH on a IS and moving squad for a couple of accomplishments on the bucket list. Good times but two malfs for my Big Cats and eventually finding all of Dave's traps did me in. Definitely plan to play again.	nebel

Vienna's Final Defence	My inexperience showed as I let my AFVs get too close to Chip's panzerfaust wielding Germans. I got smoke from them, just not in the way I wanted. Chip rolled low exactly when he needed to against my infantry and my Russians just couldn't get across hexrow J. As turn 3 became turn 4 it became obvious that I would not achieve the victory conditions.	geebeehaitch

Latest News

A new publisher in the shop!

Le Franc Tireur have joined the ranks of third party publishers who will be selling digital packs on the shop.

Their first publication in English (and some French!), LFT #8, is now available via LFT #8's publication page and features both the 90+ page magazine and 10 scenarios, for $24.

LFT are trialling the service and if there's enough interest he will be adding many more publications, so if you can support them either through words of encouragement or by purchasing the pack, we have more digital content to look forward to!

Minor updates

The scenario page now has an Order of Battle editor to ease the pain of editing scenarios and slight update in the way scenarios are linked by name to scenarios in ROAR.

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
