Overview:

An ad hoc group of roughly two parachute companies under Lt. Colonel Shanley were stopped cold on their drive toward the bridge at Pont L’Abbe. They fell back to high ground overlooking the Chef-Du-Pont crossing. The key element of the position was a standing patrol in a farm and road junction, blocking the road from the west to the bridge. At dawn on June 8th, the Germans made their most determined effort to take it. . .

2025-04-11(A) James Rimmer vs Kyle Weltner German winAmericans tried to burn the forest in their set up area; it did not work, allowing the germans to get into the houses early. After some tough exchanging of fire, Germans were able to push back the reinforcements.
2025-04-10(D) Jonathan Kapleau vs Kohn, Stuart American win
2025-03-04(A) jon smith vs In progressYank Mortar dominated early game breaking several squads each turn... the delay in rallying then pushing back in cost the germans too heavily, while they got into the buildings it wasnt in force and were wiped by reinforcing Americans

2024-06-08(A) Jeff B vs Zoltan Eszes German win4.25 hrsA rare FtF game for me at "The Whitmore House," getting together with the Milwaukee-area gang. We settled on this in honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. I took the Germans, even though Zoltan's dad was an Iron Cross-winning Hungarian commander memorialized on cardboard in ASL117-With Tigers on Their Tail. I approached straight up the middle, with an outlying force north of the road/woods mass on the bottom to try and flank. Dealing with the almost-scripted MMG nest and mortar on top of the hill would prove exceedingly difficult, with his mortar breaking a stack behind the wall and me also losing a HS. Meanwhile his boys on the hill shrugged off MC after MC from my kill stacks. Turn 4 saw a drastic turn of events though as my mortar rolled three snake eyes in a row. First a CH on the mortar, then another on the results, then another on the MMG nest. The resulting "5" was almost as good here after Zoltan rolled snakes of his own to have both leader and HS affected equally by the CH. His leader bit it with a mortal wound, and the HS of course was killed outright. Once the hill was clear I was able to storm up quite a few Germans into the hill. Just in time too, because the Ami reinforcements arrived early. It looked to be a tough fight. But when a berzerk Ami was K'd and then boxcarred his MC, and his attempt to take me out in one of the foxholes on the hill in CC met with doom he called it a day. Despite me currently not having a single building, his broken 9-1 and another squad would be sure mop up casualties, and me grabbing a sole building from his sorely pressed five remaining squads would be rather simple. A fun time with a great group of guys!
2024-01-29(D) David Garvin vs Nick Faryna German winCame to the end. What a knock down fight
2023-09-23(D) David Garvin vs Frank Kelly American winPlayed in a fast-paced game. As US, I malf'd out my Mortar and my MMG in short order, but my reinforcements were timely, as was a HOB roll that generated a hero and made my squad go fanatic. Great fun!

2023-03-27(D) Jack Wilson vs Bob T. American winThe game came down to the last turn. Germans ran out of steam and could not take the last VC building.
2023-02-12(D) David Garvin vs Logan Stallings American win
2023-01-14(D) Jack Wilson vs Mark Oakley German winGame 3 at WO '23. Mark played an excellent game. My greatest lesson learned: read the victory conditions before you start or have someone who understands plain English explain them to you.
2022-07-14(D) Jack Wilson vs Ken Walsh American winMy first time trying ASL. Ken and I chose this one as a good way to ease into the infantry rules. A fun scenario that plays quickly. The Americans begin outnumbered, but MMG and a LtMtr on the hill help slow the German onslaught until reinforcements arrive. The America must be careful of letting units fall prey to capture, thus providing double CVP. Also, if the Germans can slip around either or both flanks and establish a MG nest or two on the ridge line, they can really hinder the oncoming reinforcements giving the main body time to gobble up the VC buildings. Ken played well, but I think this one tilts in favor of the Amis.
2022-03-08(D) David Garvin vs Loic Gourdon German winCame to the final turn. Loic pressed in and won on a CVP cap. Great battle!
2022-03-03(A) Paul Legg vs John Kennedy German winHeroes 2022 - Friendly
2022-02-19(A) Tom Harrington vs Teddy B American winRusty (me) German assault laden with deployment mistakes, with a strong push on turn 6, thoroughly repelled by an fluid American defense with exceptional die rolls.
2022-01-27(A) Jeff B vs Bronson Banhart German win4.25 hrsGermans approached fairly typically from the south central. Americans used their 8-0 to spot for their mortar fire to keep them safe. German 8-0, helping tote their own mortar, got brained Turn 2 by the sniper. Turn 3 saw the Americans lose their 9-1 and a squad to NQ. But the German 9-1 was lost as well (cc?), leaving the Germans with only one leader. Thankfully their push up the middle was proving successful however, and they were already starting to sweep into the village from the south. By Turn 4 they had captured all the buildings, the American spotter was brained by the sniper, and reinforcements were nowhere to be seen. Despite receiving them one turn earlier in the re-issue, late-arriving Americans is still too much of a hurdle to overcome. Once the last Americans who had been holding out around the village went berserk and were mowed down by numerous German guns, it was easy enough to meet the Americans up in the hills and stimy their approach.
2021-08-26(D) Ken Rutkowski vs George H American win
2021-07-09(A) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier German winThe Americans fell back into the village effectively, but did not inflict many German casualties so the Germans came in strong and were able to break the Americans by turn 5 and take the village, no reinforcements showed up and a concession was made.
2021-07-05(D) Craig Renier vs Larry Rohlfing German winThe Americans held their forward positions too long rather than withdrawing slowly back through the village. By the time the American reinforcements arrived, the initial American force was essentially eliminated and the Germans were well entrenched in the village. A decisive German victory.
2021-03-13(A) James Forrest vs In progress
2021-01-30(A) Jacob Elmqvist vs Ingemar Gardell German win
2020-11-27(D) jon smith vs german American winYank mortar did sterling work and whittled the german attack... some glorious melee action captured an american squad bringing the germans back into the game, only for the turn 8 yank firepower to clean it up.
2020-09-19(A) Tripp Killin vs Phil Watkins American winMy Germans crossed board 4 in decent order. A MTR critical hit, a Casualty MC, a leader-hungry sniper, and Bore-sighted MMG hex took some toll on my troops, and Melee with American paratroopers was more deadly than usual. But I captured the VC buildings right before the American reinforcements arrived.
However, Phil had conserved his at-start forces (I broke only 1 American squad in the 1st 4 turns) and those combined with the reinforcements was more than enough to retake one building. We called it after 7.5 turns.
Great scenario, a classic.

2019-06-07(A) Andy Goldin vs Alan Saltzman American winHuman Wave 2019. I seized hill 621 which enabled me to fire on the town and prevent some reinforcing Americans from getting into the objective. I had a few good MG rate tears which chewed him up. Sadly I lost two squad equivalents to boxcars. I think his sniper won him the game by killing my best leader early on and pinning the squad I designated to advance into the last building for CC on the last turn. Great game!
2019-04-08(A) David Garvin vs Jerad Alexander American winCame to the final die roll on the last turn. Great match! He won by 1 CVP: we were tied for casualties.
2018-08-22(A) Rick Galli vs Bruce Childs American win
2018-06-18(D) Jeff B vs John Malaska American win4.5 hrsGermans tried a pincer maneuver, but made the mistake of moving too often in stacks. This backfired immediately when they lost 2 squads and their best leader to the MMG. Germans did break the mortar firer early however and this left the Americans with a bit of a hole in their defense. It was re-manned a couple turns later, only to see this half squad break as well. An intrepid 8-0 eventually picked it up and busted a flanking German squad. Meanwhile the German assault was foundering, and it certainly didn't help when the American reinforcements arrived on time. By the middle of Turn 7 there was not a single German unit left.
2018-06-18(A) John Malaska vs Jeff Buser American winLesson learned. DON'T STACK!!!
2018-05-04(A) Scott Sherer vs D. Bruce Weston American winCame down to the final CC roll on the last turn. The Germans had taken all four buildings but could not sufficiently interdict the American reinforcements. The Americans got a paratrooper squad into one of the buildings for CC against a 467 German squad. The 3-2 CC went the American way to give them one building, and counting up the CVP gave them the 13-11 edge and the victory. Fun scenario with both sides attacking at different points in the game.

2016-09-27(D) Gordon Jupp vs Simon Church American winVASL. Great game, Simon tried to swarm me early and it appeared to be succeeding, especially when my MMG broke during prep fire on US turn 1 and although he had troops in both bore sighted hexes (MMG and Mtr) both were ineffective...However the MMG repaired on turn 2 and both it and the mtr broke nearly half the Germans. The US reinforcements arrived on turn 4 and it was all up on turn 5 when the CVP was 9 - 3 in the US favour.
