Unlucky Thirteenth	I used a British defense from an AAR, which defended the east bridge with the tank and dummies, and the west bridge with wire and the ATG. The Germans placed the MMG at the east bridge and tried to cross with a pair of hs against the tank. The hs failed, but eventually the leader and squad made it across to destroy the tank in CC. Both German tanks set up behind the hedge in the west and eventually one tank won the dual with the ATG. That lone tank, with malf'd MA succeeded in driving around to sit adjacent to building 33P9 to blast out the final defenders from the last victory building with 8FP MG fire. The Carriers came in, before the tank was anywhere in sight, to dismount the hs behind the row of woods around 33O10. One carrier with leader was held back in the orchard for fire support and a final turn push to retake or defend a building, but a German 7-0 leader, created in CC against a stunned carrier a turn earlier, ran into the orchard and was able to advance and hold down the carrier in melee for the last turn. Dean's Defiance	Read the VC very carefully. It's a shame that you need to...but do it. The ability to enter Boards i, j, or k on Turn 3 with a substantial force really messes with this game. As the Americans I just set up completely in the back. And sure enough on Turn 3 all two tanks and 13 squads entered on the west edge right on top of me and a hex away from exiting the south edge. This is not fun ASL. Dan and I played this one all the way to the end...and can't say we enjoyed the five hours involved with playing a DASL scenario...good grief. All ASL is of course fun ASL...but this one did feel like a grind to play. My Americans inflicted enough casualties and destroyed three T-34/85's...with the fourth Recalled due MALF'd MA.	grumblejones
Mga Station	The Russians have a very powerful force in this scenario. They were able to take two buildings west of the train station and push into the train station in the first two turns. The Germans abandoned the train station, voluntarily breaking and routing out the last of their forces in the Russian's third turn in order to get the German reinforcements into the fight as early as possible. The German reinforcements counter-attacked on the west flank and were able to push the Russians back. The Russians were able to take an additional building east of the train station, but in the end the Germans were able to take all of the buildings west of the train station back giving the Germans the victory. The German flame thrower was an absolute beast rolling a two and two threes on its attacks KIA'ing two and half Russian squads and lighting three building locations on fire!	acfe
Stymied At Isneauville	Note that horrible mistakes were made in our playing, so the feedback it likely not representative for this scenario!! I played the Germans. First thing I got wrong was the exit area specified in the VC. A15 to J15 ONLY, i.e. West of the Pond ONLY. I believed that P15 & Q15 would also be an option, which was wrong. Next mistake: I set up the German tanks on board instead of having them enter in Turn 1. Misled by my original VASL file (I have corrected the version available here in the Scenario Archive by now.), my opponent believed in the exit possibility of P15 and Q15 as well. Due to these blunders, I set up entirely in the eastern half aiming at exit via P15 & Q15. We only noticed the tank setup error after a short while into the game. Because we did not want to start over, and my tanks had all moved into the K11-Q7 treeline, we decided to "counterbalance" the delay that this would impose on my moving to the other side against setting up the tanks onboard. I was able to overcome 1.5 squad equvalents, an MMG, the ATR, and one British Leader at the cost of one PzII, a German HS and some time. The German infantry shifted from the east to the center, where most of the British forces were deployed. The British ATG was lurking in H13, which was bad for me as I had sent the remaining PzII into the central Stream passing three bog checks altogether. The PzI reversed out of Q7 Woods to move to H7. The area around the bridge had been poisoned with AT mines (which we also botched by only placing them onboard after game start). Improbably, I was able to pick up the AT mines in two hexes with infantry, surviving low PF @ -2 shots. Then the PzI charged through the third AT minefield along the Woods Road and broke thorough, gacking an OVR en route. The attempt to foil the mine clearing and stopping the tank allowed my infantry to gain a foothold west of the stream. Some melees in the center neutralized some of his and my units for a while, which hurt the British more than the Germans. In the end, it came down to whether a few British HS in the F14 Stone Building would be able to stop my Germans, mostly hunkered down in the D13 stone building to exit. The PzI had already escaped by the time. My opponent was very unlucky not to his the remaining PzII when it emerged from the Stream to rush for the exit, though the accompanying armored assaulting infantry was stopped. So two tanks (with AL) were out for 12VP. I needed to exit only 3VP of infantry now. Once more, bad luck for my opponent when he malfed his remaining MMG. After that, I could exhaust the firing options and impose target selection limits which guaranteed that I could exit the remaining 3VP. Still fun scenario despite having gacked so many things. But our playing is ill suited to learn anything from it for a "normal" playing. By gut feeling, both of us believe that the Germans will have an edge in this one.	von Marwitz
Crossing Chaos	Lady Luck was French in this one, as those two AT Guns had ROF enough times to make me think they were HMG. Got one round of Smoke off from one Pz IV before depletion, the other was Destroyed by an AT Gun miracle shot. I did manage to get one Assault Squad across the bridge before it fell, but they broke, just, to some desperate DF in French T5, otherwise it might have gone to a last gasp Melee with the French Squad having to withdraw. A Wedge in the Ice	Tough game for the Finns. My Russians suffered some hard hits moving to contact with the Finnish trench line. 6 squads broken or KIA's by Turn 2. My OBA smoke blocked up the center pillbox and my boys managed to into the trenches and slowly overwhelmed the Finns with a couple good close combat wins, including an exchange which killed both sides. My armor was able to break part of the trench line with direct fire and they move to the exit.	grumblejones
Fateful Miscalculations	French OBA fortuitously started fires on the German side of the Meuse which spread into a massive conflagration over the course of the CG. A French armored counterattack into German assault flank disrupted Germans and helped destroy tanks and bridging equipment before it was slowly worn down.	jgarlic79@gmail.com

Red Comrades	Russian win despite malfunctioning the AT Gun first shot, and immediately eliminating it, and then the ATR on about the 3rd shot. OBA was the main saviour of the Russians, who otherwise sit and do little. Very static for the Russians, and unreasonably rushed for the Germans.	Minedog
Venture Into Carnage	As the Americans I was much too aggressive too early with my AFV and three burning wrecks attest to that result! 26 CVP lost by end of Turn 3!	Kydder
Crossing Chaos	Smooth win for the German. In turn 1 I positioned the 2 tanks that could fire smoke behind a wall, next to the river. I bypass froze the French and either killed them ot locked them in melee. In turn 2 I cleared the German side of the river and covered the French in smoke. In Turn 3, under the cover of smoke I crossed the bridge and destroyed a squad and an AT by cc. At that point my opponent gave up.	PVeenstra
Fire from the Hole	Germans have very little to cover a broad front. The Russians can choose a breakthrough flank and power through it relatively easy I think. 6 Vehicles including ISU and Mineroller. Germans only have 3 PSK that can slow those down and only if in the right spot. Just getting these Vehicle exited will win it and that doesn't include 13 squads to help.	nekengren

Prelude to Festung Brest	The Germans adopted a "bend but don't break" defence, slowly pulling back to stymie the American advance. However good use of smoke grenades allowed the GIs to eliminate the German 9-1 and a squad in CC, after that the writing was on the wall ... a string of poor MCs led to the German line collapsing and the Americans broke through to end the game on Turn 5	ifoxen
Panzer Graveyard	Up and down, impossible shots on both sides made to look easy, and my Germans finally held enough buildings against the dwindling British troops. Great opponent, balanced DRs, and good fun. Don't forget that one entire row-house building counts as ONE VC.	EJ1
Beyond the Pakfronts	Derek used his mobility extremely well to knock out my Board 33 holding force, which had more than a little concerned, but I was able to set up a hedgehog on board 19 in LOS of the VC hex which was really hard to attack inside the very restrictive time window. We certainly had fun, but the VC giving the Defender double VP for mobile Vehicles really made it difficult for the German Attacker to win, esp. when the StuGs don't enter until turn 3 and he has only turns to cover a great deal of distance. The Brickworks	This one went down to the wire! StuGs went up the middle with the intent of smoking the factories once the infantry caught up. My opponent got diced bad during my advance and the majority of my force was intact as I closed on the factories. The Russian conceded the W9 factory, had a rearguard at S9, and defended O9 with the remaining 3 squads and both leaders. Lost both StuGs in the approach but was able to strip concealment off one squad and break/pin the other two squad/leader stacks with some very fortunate dice rolls. End of German Turn 5, I had 4 squads/2leaders in O9, facing only one good order Russian squad with a broken leader. 2 different dice rolls and this is easily a Russian victory. Bring Up the Boys	A decisive victory for the British as the Germans tanks missed over 95% of their shots, and had their numbers reduced by 2 from a single ATR and its manning squad. A daring dash by a carrier trapped a group of Germans who were eliminated for failure to rout, and many other mishaps meant that the Germans never posed a threat to the objective after Game Turn 2. Hard to judge based on the results I had, although I'd appreciate the Germans getting a DC or something to tackle all the Stone buildings and rowhouses they need to capture.	Jobbo_Fett

Bunker Burning	Germans will probably setup as a fortified complex in OG here. Russians can smoke the attack point but those A-P/A-T mines, Wire, Trench, Pillbox are going to make this assault very tough. My Russians failed badly against the OBA and Firelanes.	nekengren

Three Bars of Chocolate	The Americans suffered some losses in the first turns while the Residual Fire chitting rule was in play. Only one German squad with a LMG was guarding the AT-ditch; the rest of the meager at-start German setup was waiting in the buildings. Rain started, followed by Heavy Rain, which on top of the Mud complicated movement and added LV at all ranges. Luckily for them, the American tanks entered on Turn 4 rather than 5, and thus could "sit and wait" for the German tanks to enter through I20. Both German tanks were blazed and the infantry reinforcements were quickly taken care of as soon as they entered.	mestravis

Independence Day	The Czechs don't have to move very far, but shrinking the German perimeter takes time. The Germans have to skulk and survive. This one is nice and simple, and plays quickly. This was a close game, and came down to CC on the last turn. The Czechs had a pretty big CC odds advantage, but victory was not guaranteed until the final DRs. With fairly high SANs on both sides, we thought those would play a role, but not this time. Although there were several activations, only one hit, and just pinned the Czech sniper. Major weapons were unreliable for both sides. The first shot with the German MMG was a 12 and a second repair attempt was a 6. One of the Czech tanks had its MA break on its second shot, and by the end of the game, both AFVs had malfunctioned MA.	asl458
Silence that Gun	I haven't had this much VASL fun in a long time! I fortified 3N1 (multi-hex) and placed the AT gun in 3N4. Early on, the Germans aced all the MC but couldn't do much on the IFT. Later their marksmanship improved and broke several American attacks into the fortified building. The Amis took hex N1 first, then M2. Just in time, I sent the 8-0 upstairs so Steve's boys would have to take the 1st level as well. Later in the game I managed to get a stack in N2 that could lay 36FP on the two adjacent fortified Ami held hexes. A 1MC on 3 * 7-4-7's in M2 produced TWO berserk Ami squads which were forced to advance up the stairway to CC the lone German 8-0. These 2 7-4-7 then could see the gun crew over the wall in N4 and sent them routing. Steve ran out of time to clear out N2 and the Germans were victorious by the skin of their bratwurst. Independence Day	The Germans managed to keep concealment and skulk away from DF which made it difficult to advance without Prep Fire. The tanks were a good source of smoke but the Czechs couldn't pass their MC's when taking fire. Ran out of time and capitulated at end of turn 5.	Nicho11
Rally Point	A great little scenario with tons of replayability. It came down to a last melee where had the Americans won it, would have taken back the 6th building for the W. As the Germans, I chose to go first to maintain the initiative but foregoing half of the MFs on turn one as well as needing to take 6 building hexes instead of 5. An early German berserk HS tied up an American full squad in CC which ended up being a German victory in the level 0 village portion (CC was reinforced by adjacent Germans). This turned out to be pivotal, along with the 7-0 leader and 3x 4-4-7s making an end around and getting into building U7. U7 was the pivotal melee building where it came down to the final melee DRs. Sting 'em at Zingem	Germans sent one AC and a platoon in on turn one, with the rest entering on turn two on the north board edge. The Belgians had two squads and a lmg defending on that flank, based on a BGG image. The Belgian AFV's came on to defend the hedgeline near the central victory buildings. They were first stunned and shocked, and then burned and destroyed after they recovered. Not being able to BFF or fire after traversing makes them very susceptible to flanking, which the Germans did. It all came down to a melee in 66S5. The Germans fired into the building with an adjacent AC and everyone broke except for a German hero.	Guru Bob

Clearing Colleville	I underestimated the scenario. At first, the Americans managed to be very aggressive, with half squads attacking on the front (thanks to V. Maresca's article on Basic Training 1). German resistance collapsed suddenly on turn 2. And here was the mistake: a too much settled phase, with lost aggresivness. I underestimated the German reinforcements that were already well positioned on the other side of the village. Add too much broken squads left behind because 'we're already smashing everything anyway'. And there was defeat: Germans in buildings, well defended, and too fews teams to push forward effectively. Broich Bash	Played this "Oldie but Goldie" formerly knows as A69 as the defending Germans. I have almost overlooked that the Germans set up first AND move first. This actually is a thing I like about this scenario: You don't have to think much about your setup - because AFTER the German setup but BEFORE the game start, the US must announce to the Germans on which of three allowed sides they will enter. Then, during their first MPh, the Germans will move to meet the "direction" of the upcoming US entry. In other words, the Germans will set up in the village that allows them to move for establishing a defensive perimeter. My opponent elected to enter from the "long" side, which might offer the most options. Due to the US vehicles all having a lot of MP, they can cover ground quickly so that both sides will get to buisness without much delay. Unfortunately, for my German defenders, this was one of those games, where just nothing seemed to work. It took me until Turn 4 to inflict the first casualty halfsquad to the US, while my defenders got nibbled away - twice by Fate, once by CC vehicle small arms among other things. In the entire scenario, 1945 mind me, my Germans managed to find one single Panzerfaust. By the Rout Phase of US Turn 5, the Americans had taken the three small buildings and my remnants on Level 1 in the large central building were upper level encircled and eliminated for (US had declared No Quarter). In the remaining building, all Germans except for one Leader, were broken and re-DM'ed. As chances were less than theoretical for my 2nd Line and Conscript survivors (ELR 2) to rally AND take back the central building, I called it a day. US win.	von Marwitz
Hube's Pocket	The Germans came on and stuck to the the south side of board 2. The Russian came on and dropped off squads at the road entry hexes of board 4 and 2. The rest of the Russians tried to sweep up on board 2 hill hexes. Most of the battle raged in the East portion of board 5. A turning point for the Russians is when we had a increase in the wind increased that spread smoke over 6 hexes on the North road of board 2. Then when a German Half-track was recalled. A Lone T34 had got to the West side of board 5 and saw able to kill the haft-rack in the woods road hex. On an intensive fire shot on the wreck the Russians were able to set that Half-track on fire. The Germans realize that they did not have enough MP to get the convoys off. Germans conceded at the start of German turn 10	slunts

L'Union Fait la Force	The Germans managed to break or pin anyone attempting to get close on Turn 1 and things simply spiraled out of control from there. Having a deadly stack in X1, that can then be almost completely safe in Z1, is probably the only puzzle the Belgians need to solve, but it is neither fun or particularly engaging. Frankly, I'm surprised that the ROAR data is so close - the German side is favored in this one and the scenario needs multiple changes before it can start to look fun.	Jobbo_Fett
Kicked to the Curb	Pretty straight forward scenario. Poles have some approach limitation, with a lot of units scrunched onto 43, and it certainly didn't help my cause when my MMG laying a crucial FL broke. I underestimated the power of assault fire and range 5, not to mention the monstrous fire groups the Poles can muster. I repaired my MMG, but by the end of the turn I had lost a squad. The wrecks were certainly the Poles' friend, preventing some nice FLs. And so the Poles pressed on. I lost a couple LMGs that turn, one to break and one to its wielder dying. The Poles broke an ATR, but managed to stun one of my precious tanks. My commissar was not inspiring, and did nothing but kill off men all game. But the Russians also generated a hero, who would prove a key to the southern defense. Turn 3 saw my stunned tank burned up by an MG, but the Poles started to pay the price in men, losing 1.5 squads and seeing another 5.5 broken (many without leaders). Turn 4 was very costly for the Russians, losing 3.5 squads and their last tank, to only a HS for the Poles. The building count stood at 9, with another 2 easy pickings. Turn 5 was quiet, with each side only losing a HS. The Poles only claiming the 2 easy buildings plus another. But an intrepid Russian HS reclaimed the one furthest north. In the last turn the Russians survived the shots they needed to, but didn't dish out quite enough to prevent the Poles from gaining the requisite 2 buildings, with another 2 melees unresolved for others. A surprisingly dynamic game for one so small, with at least three distinct areas of combat. But I do think the Poles will win this more than they lose.	buser333

The Doomed and the Damned	Japs set up a kill stack in the middle, while the majority of their force swept up from the south. The southern group grabbed control of the bottom hill by the end of Turn 2. They then safely swarmed the middle hill from the east, but further progress would be very difficult with the almost unstoppable Chinese tanks bolstering the area. It certainly didn't help that my plane did squat. First casualties of the game occurred as the hero met his doom, while a Chinese squad was lost. Turn 4 saw little progress made, as the Japs burned both DCs and lost 1.5 squad, versus one squad for the Chinese. A 448 Jap HS turned berserk, with an extremely long and open path to the enemy, while a rallied 237 did the same in the east. Japs and Chinese traded losses in the 5th, with each losing a squad and 8-0. The central hill was ousted of enemies and almost secured. Turn 6 was costly for the Japs, losing 1.5 squads versus a 9-1 for the Chinese, as once again little progress was made. That would cause the end to come down to two banzai, and the Japs came up one hex short. I was extremely hesitant to play this scenario under the new rules, and with good reason, as I believe the Chinese ability to safely skulk away out of their foxholes bought them an extra turn. And thus cemented my resolve to refuse to play any older scenarios with foxhole-predicated defenses (particularly on hills or large woods masses). And I certainly will not play any older OBA scenarios under the new optional rules. Had these rules been in place from the inception of the game I would've been all for them, but making drastic changes like this to rules and scenarios in existence for 40+ years is just the sign of a dying game gasping to stay viable. I'm all for many changes to the game, but implement them as SSR grudge rules so we know they've been play tested. This all-encompassing blanket is a highly questionable decision at this stage. I for one will not accept it.	buser333
The Legrew Maneuver	FNF game. Mark split his armoured forces at the start and I decided to go onto the offensive with the German armour. By the end of turn two, the German AFVs had destroyed thee US tanks while the panzerschrek accounted for two more. The final US tank broke its MA and was recalled. With no US armour to impede progress, the Germans made it to the exits and Mark conceded on turn four. HIs DR chart was a sea of red and there is no doubt that the dice were in my favour for this one.	Dougban

Down in a Hole	Russians have to take the Fortifications. Germans should setup a Fortified complex surrounded by OG kill terrain. Germans should mostly survive the initial Bombardment (+4 DRM) if they start inside Trenches/Pillboxes. Russian OBA won't do much damage and no smoke. Germans will still have a tough time holding out against all those Russian toys.	nekengren
Bastion Bodange	The Belgian player placed his visible pillboxes unoccupied (nothing prevents that) which provided a huge edge for the defenders. The Stuka did nothing useful. By German turn 3, It was over with 4 German panzers gone and a halftrack carrying an AT gun. The scenario does add a lot of constraints to the Germans with various victory conditions to fulfill, a stream crossing and so many things that can turn wrong. The playing of this scenario provided a feel of weirdness and frustration and not that much fun.	lt_steiner

3rd RTR in the Rain	Played in the VASLeague. The British ran into trouble early on with two tanks destroyed an one immobilized with only a German tank with a malfunctioned MA in return. My tanks took up HD positions and the British couldn't hit a turret for love nor money. The powerful AFV MGs then made it virtually impossible to make any inroads into the defences. We had the unusual event of a British leader and squad going berserk, charging into the German positions and taking down one HS in CC. The Dornot Watermark	This was a razor's edge. At the end, the NVR dropped to 2. This was just enough to keep my final SMC stuck on the far side to reach a boat and cross the river. That SMC? Highlander Victory	Game turned out to be very exciting. The Germans were able to get a hero on to the bridge but it was still in Canadian possession. The last German movement phase was able to get the tank onto the bridge with the hero. We agreed that the tank needed to remain good order to maintain control. If it move off or or is eliminate the Bridge would go back to the Canadians. Canadian Last turn they self rallied a squad with a Piat. Prep fire he destroys the tank. But the crew survives. Now possessing the bridge and allowing the hero to maintain control if needed. At the end of Defensive and advance fire the only unit the Canadians were only able to advance a half squad to go into close combat with hero. Canadians roll to high the hero fails the Kill The bridge is still in the Germans hands for a very exciting and heart racing ending Thanks Rob for the game	slunts
Back To School	The Germans divided into a central flank with the 9-2 leader and two squads with the dmMMGs, and flanks on either side. The central flank was neutralized with the HMG and Commissar from the second level of the central building on the Russian side, and the Russian hero managed to place the DC causing havoc in those units. On the left flank, a brave Russian 6-2-8 squad guarded the bridge and could delay the German advance until they collapsed. With patience, the Germans moved on both sides and eventually the Russian defense could not hold. Easy exit for the Germans with points to spare.	mestravis

Unhorsed	German reverse rolling defense relied upon steadily falling back trying to stay away from both the American armor's deadly 37mm canister fire as well as all the equipment their infantry carried. The American sniper was a crack shot though, and took out the German commander and broke a squad as well. Then the American mortar scored a one-shot direct hit that killed the German AT gun. My opponent had divided his force relatively equally and sent half his power along the south flank and half along the north. As it turned out, each of those groups was halted by a combination of German fire lanes and improvised small fire groups that kept breaking and re-breaking the American morale. Without any squads in range to run off the board for victory, the US resigned after Turn 6.	A2ASLer

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

Site updates!

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
