Historical Gavin Take	The Americans ran out of time. Bottom of 5, the Germans advanced a squad and leader into the street. Having traded blood for soil all game, they had a HS with a leader and a berserk squad in melee elsewhere. The Americans took a 12-3 getting a K3 -- broken HS and leader in front of the bridge. Two more shots to take clear the path. The 8-0 and squad have to get across. The German HS lead by an 8-1 for a 2-3 rolls 9. And the Americans reciprocate and pin, both of them. The Americans were already across with the 10-2 leader but he was lonely and that was game.	Larry

The Professionals	Used Yugoslavian defense from AAR online. Most squads set-up in Manor. Each of the southern woods hexes along the wall were defended. AT guns in O3 and Q1. The Germans attacked across the hill down the road and except for ht's with 1.5 squads which went north around the orchard. The Yugoslav's got off several MOL attacks but 2 resulted in the attacking squads breaking with a flame counter in their own hex. The Q1 AT missed its shot and was broken in return. The Yugo squads in the woods each broke in turn and were lost to failure to rout. A German Mk4 tank landed smoke in 7Q1 and another tank drove through it, causing the other AT gun to miss its shot and the game was soon over.	Guru Bob
The Governor	Another serving of Andy "H-t-H" Rodgers, so you know it's going to get close and personal... The Australians want to take a hilltop village from defending Vichy French represented by Légion Étrangère and support by a pair of not-radioless (!) R-35 tanks. All buildings are ground level and Rowhouse bars do not exist (but are not Open Ground). Deployment is limited and H-t-H allowed, The scenario is 4.5 Turns short, the Aussies enter from offboard. 12 defending squads (50% each Elite and 1st Line), 9-1, 8-0, 7-0, MMG, 3x LMG, ltMTR, 6x "?" and the said R-35s. The Aussies have 15 squads, 6x Elite, 9x 1st Line, 9-2, 9-1, 8-0, 7-0, 4x LMG, 2x ATR, 2x DC. To win, the Aussies either need to control one particular building or otherwise roughly 75% of all mulithex buildings to win at game end. The attacking Aussies face two main challenges: The first is the terrain. They have to attack uphill vs. stone buildings. The second is time. They have only 4.5 turns to pull it off. There are no smoke making capabilities for the attacker besides the squads' smoke exponent. The 9-2 is certainly their main asset, H-t-H will surely "shorten" some of the CCs. And remember - the attacker is the Australians... ROAR had this scenario 25 Aussies / 42 Vichy at the time of our playing. With this number of playings and the remarkable difference in victory, it may count as established, that the defending Vichy French have an edge. After having played the scenario, I do agree. Attacking uphill against stone buildings, the entry of which will cost 4MF or will make you CX if you advance into them, which will often go in hand with not being able to maintain or regain Concealment, is a tough call. You only have 3 squads advantage in numbers and that 9-2 Leader. The limiting of deployment is likely aimed at preventing an "army of halfsquads" seeking out H-t-H combat against unfavorable odds. As the Aussies are allowed to enter from two sides (short north side and long west side), the French will not be able to solidly cover all approaches. But until the Aussies gain the hill, their going will be slow and impeded by the terrain even without Vichy opposition. In our playing, I had the attacking Aussies. Looking at my opponent's defense, I felt quite lucky that the vector of attack I had hoped to use was not strongly defended. Thus my initial charge went quite well. However, I made one grave mistake by overlooking a LOS which would have enabled a 4FP @ -1 shot, that could have proved utterly disasterous. Luckily, my opponente overlooked it as well until it was too late and my units had already passed. Besides that, I don't believe that I made any serious mistakes in excecution. Nevertheless, I felt pressured more than half a dozen times to take risks that I would not normally take in ASL - mainly exposing the 9-2 to dangerous shots and going into CC CX, declaring H-t-H and "hope for the best". During the first two Turns, I was mainly struggling uphill against my opponent who was reluctantly and slowly falling back. During this time, my Aussies were whittled down losing a squad and two or three halfsquads with nothing really to show for it. This forced me to seek doubtful CCs. Luckily, three of those proved utterly disasterous for the defender, because Infiltration allowed me to re-DM a stack with three units after having eliminated a 9-1, 458+LMG. In the second one, my CX squad prevailed against his non-CX squad, again allowing Infiltration into his back and grabbing Control of a Building for good measure. This same squad then withstood some bashing and when it came to CC against unfavorable odds, it contrived to kill enemy infantry to infiltrate out into the most important building, of which it gained Control in doing so (relinquishing Control of the building it left). Now, the Vichy French would have to root me out of the "you have it - you win it"-building in his back, which was a catastrophe for him. Although the Vichy French were able to decide three more H-t-H CCs in their favor, it came at a cost and for a brief time, kept the French occupied. Since I had gained the hill by that time, finally I was able to take advantage of that by being able to move faster than merely creeping range. I was able to place the two Aussie DCs, but they only had marginal effect. Because I had taken enough buildings but one (one of which was the "you have it - you win it" building and was in a strong position to withstand French fire in the last 4th French Turn and would have been afterwards able to do all sorts of "last turn shenanigans", my opponent conceded at the End of Aussie Turn 4. The tanks had only played a minor role in our game. Although I somehow contrived to pull off a win, I felt that skill alone was not sufficient for that. The ROAR rating of 25 Aussies / 42 Vichy reflects the challenges the Aussies are facing pretty well. Time restraints forced me to take undue risks too many times, but I was lucky to get away with that more often than not. Escape from Velikiye Luki	Germans did a board-edge creep to avoid activating Russians. The 10-2 blew away the Russians he encountered and Mark didn't make a Freedom of Movement dr <3 in 7 tries. So, the Germans exited more than enough VP with the bulk of the Russians still under No Move restriction. Not a good representation of this scenario, me thinks.	ubertripp

Turning the Tables	British defense was based on AAR from a blog. It consisted of 4 clusters of fortifications across the front and a solid line of mines across the board. The guns were placed unhidden in fortifications. The German attack started in the southwest, but intended to swing around the SD5 dune to cross the mines in the center. The PZJg's entered in the south and stayed in the sunblindness zone of the southern Brits, after which they moved north to hide behind the dunes until the guns were subdued. The 10-2 set up a kill stack on dune SD8 and started clearing out the center, eventually taking down the AA gun. The Stukas waited patiently for the AA gun and HMG to be subdued then bombed the AT Gun. At this point all but the ht's started heading forward. A stack of sappers cleared a hole in the mines and the Brits started rolling 2's, 3's and 4's, filling the field with heroes, fanatics and berserkers. Still almost all defenders were subdued and the Germans exited both ht's after they each bogged. The tanks were eliminated to a CH and a sniper STUN.	Guru Bob
To The Cider Crossroads	In the scenario the Germans attempt to prevent the Canadians from crossing the playing area to exit a number of EVP, at least some of which must be infantry. Grain is changed to Vineyards and Orchards to Olive Groves and any Bog Check receive a +1 DRM. The Canadians have 10 squad equivalents, three leaders, two each LMG, MMG, ltMTR, PIAT and are reinforced in Turn 2 by two Sherman tanks, one of which has an 8-1 AL. Initially, the Germans only have 3 squad equivalents, a single 9-1 Leader, one LMG, one HMG and a randomly modified small number of "?" counters. Their support consists of a 50L ATG and a 81mm MTR along with some fortifications consisting of 24 mine factors and a 1-3-5 Pillbox. In Turn 4 German reinforcements arrive in the form of 3 squads, an 8-0 and a LMG. PF are available but at this time in the year only with a range of 1. The issue for the Germans is - of course - that they are seriously outnumbered. There does not seem to many choices of where most of the initial Germans can sensibly set up. The fortifications and Guns will hopefully present some unwanted surprises for the Canadians. The German reinforcements are supposed to be a plug to block the Canadian exit after the initial Germans have been mostly overcome. If the Germans contrive to slow the Canadians sufficiently in the initial turns and maybe snipe a tank, then things might get close. However, if the Germans fail in reducing the effective numbers of the Canadians or if the few initial Germans go down to quickly, the German reinfocements might be too little too late. Or in the worst case, it might be over even before the German reinforcements arrive. Unfortunately for my defending Germans, this was "one of these games"... While the very start seemed promising - a scout HS was killed by mines, however, revealing the location of the minefield. And my Sniper broke an enemy squad. Alas, that was about the sum of everything I was going to achieve in this game except that my Sniper wounded the weakest leader later. Besides Pinning one unit or two, I simply got no effects at all. My opponent "found" every last minefield, but apart from the first HS, they just walked through and one of his tanks clanked through an AT minefield creating a TB. The other tank drove into the sights of my ATG, which found no APCR and the normal AP round bounced off. The Canadians stepped into the Bore Sighted hex of the 81mm MTR - no effect. They blundered into the Bore Sighted hex of the HMG, which I could not take advantage of because I had to commit its shot elsewhere before. Their "kill stack" walked into the Bore Sighted hex of the ATG, which could not hit them. None of my weapons ever had ROF. So the essential "whittling and weakening" part on which this scenario hinges, did not quite work. In turn my ATG Gun crew broke on its first MC never to come back. One of his HS advanced out of a minefield unscathed into a concealed HS of mine for CC. I gacked the Ambush and got no result. He rolled snakes to generate a 8-0 leader to add insult to the injury. Next turn, because I was doubly Area Aquired by one of his tanks at 2 hex point blank range, I had to get away my "killer stack" of 9-1, 467+HMG. I also had preserved a concealed 467 shrouded in his Smoke. So to do some shifting and evading and under pressure to achieve anything at all, I calculated my chances concluding that advancing into CC with all these forces vs. his unconcealed HS + 8-0 leader would be the worthwhile thing to do: I had -3 vs. his 0 on the Ambush roll. The odds would be 3:1 @ -1 without Ambush and -2 with Ambush. What could possibly go wrong? I contrived to gack the Ambush despite favorable -3 odds. Still, my roll was good enough to kill his units. But wait, he rolled snakes again, generating another leader - a 8-1 for good measure. Recalculating, my odds shifted from 3:1 to 2:1 and the effect was a Casualty Reduction instead of a kill, which selected the just created 8-1. May he burn in hell! Needless to say, due to his second snakes, both my 467s and the 9-1 died and the HMG was destroyed for good measure. Which was just as well, because besides my 228 crew holding on to the 81mm MTR and a further away halfsquad with LMG, I had no units whatsoever at the end of my Turn 2. But I am not the kind to give up. When the jeering Canadians ran for the exit, I did get some more effects as I now recall: The MTR crew broke a passing squad (forfeiting the use of the MTR but placing Residual FP). My LMG HS broke another unit. But that was it. One of his tanks then trundled obliviously through my AT-minefield as aforementioned, thereby leaving a trailbreak and my faintest hopes dashed. As had no unit left able to fire at Canadian units worth sufficient EVP to simply waltz off unopposed in his upcoming Turn 4 and before the arrival of my reinforcements, my sole remaining Good Order MTR crew raised the white flag to concede at the end of Canadian Turn 3. Knaust's 'Fausts	My British couldn't roll anything. My first Sherman 75* smoke attempt and first roll of the game was 12. Tank would be recalled. I would break the upfront Germans but couldn't move my Firefly bogged and I did not pass a single Morale Check...not one..Pinned once and broke about 6 squads and ELR'd 3 of those. My dice bent me over the entire game. Every roll had at least one 6...so it was a futile and completely unfun game. I conceded on Turn 4, because there are more fun things to do than watch your dice screw you over all night. Great win for Dan.	grumblejones
Quiet Desperation	The scenario came down to the wire thanks to some very lucky rolls by the British. Its interesting to try and figure out a good defensive setup for the British while trying to deny some initial movement by the Germans. The tanks aren't invincible in the face of the French SW and both sides have a decent selection of SW to achieve their goals. My only complaint is that the scenario doesn't clarify if the British should have captured use penalties, which is typically stated afaik - it only says that unqualified use doesn't apply. Panzers using Smoke Dischargers can be a game changer.	Jobbo_Fett

Monastery Hill	Greeks tried to defend both hills and the crossroads. The Italians attacked on turn one on three prongs over hill 654 and either flank. Italians squads broke but were able to generally rally. The left Italian flank focused on the crossroads area to prepare for the turn 3 reinforcements to push on over hill 621 and the valley road. The Italians had 5 squads and a leader go berserk, which was able to overwhelm 3 Greek hexes and win in CC. Effective Italian fire broke most of the rest of the squads and hill 733 fell by turn 6. Bertoldo the Brave	Played through this twice as the Germans, getting clobbered both times. Stephen defended forward in force in both games. First attempt I could hardly get out of the setup area as I got thoroughly diced getting across the street. After losing much of my infantry to American GIs equipped with laser beams for an advance of a few hexes, we decided to restart. In my second attempt against basically the same setup, I managed to make better progress, getting as far south as the 15-hexline. I managed to kill off quite a bit of his infantry and one of the TDs at considerable cost to myself. By Turn 5 it was clear I would not have nearly enough time to clear the victory areas, so we called it another American victory. In both games, the strong forward defense worked for Stephen as I didn't have the dice to break him at the start, even with massive firepower. As much as I wanted to simply bypass knots of resistance, the narrow frontage of the map made that impossible and I had to attempt to defeat them in detail, and ran out of time.	Agoldin
By Dawn's Early Light	FNF game. I set up German tanks to the rear in case of a forward set up by the American coupled with their getting to fire first. As things transpired, the Germans got to move first. Early US fire was pretty demoralising but the Germans managed to get a foothold in the village and clear out the defenders to control four multi-hex buildings by turn three for the loss of one AFV. Sedan Breakout	Setup restrictions allow for the French to set up on the "opposite" side of the river and thus snipe tanks from the rear. Without doing that, there's a conundrum on where you put the French Artillery piece, since it can't go in any buildings. There's a decent base for a cat-and-mouse game where the Germans have to blow past the French infantry and hunt for the Guns while the German tanks help with the infantry problem. Not a bad scenario, per se, but needs some fine tuning.	Jobbo_Fett

Flanked Again	Americans have to set up with crossfire capabilities and place 4 additional foxholes to interdict the exit zone. My Americans managed to hang despite losing several squads. At game end...my Americans were able to focus 4 squads and an MMG on the exit zone and stop the final rush by the North Koreans. The Onslaught Resumes	Defenders setup to hold the south edge stone building with trenches and squads protecting the wooden building row behind. This was highly effective and stymied the German attack as the reinforcing Russian squads just flowed back into the trench line and forward as needed. Battle in the North was more fluid and German firepower kept pushing Russians back. Overall this was fun but the Russian defense was a lot more static than we thought so the German players had fun but lost and the Russian players won but didn't have much maneuver so it was less enjoyable.	nebel

Black Devils of Bure	The Canadians ended up killing all two German AFV in CC. One in stopped VBM, one in the open in motion (rolled 1,1) generating an 8-1 leader making it a kill. The third AFV went down to a PIAT fired by a pinned HS in the top of 6. If those had not worked out, I had the HMG (group B), MMG, and LMG ready to lay down fire lanes on the road. The snow was heavy starting in the bottom of 1 and stayed that way the whole game. FL was the only thing that could have saved the Canadian.	Larry

Corniche Game	A misunderstanding with the rules and the resultant poor setup made it extremely hard for the French to defend the approach into the town by the Italians. To make matters worse, the Italians were on a hot streak, managing to break several squads without breaking so much as a sweat. The French then lost their Phone on boxcars on the first contact attempt. Its not a completely unplayable scenario, but the French have to consider one of two approaches, either hyper-aggressive defense or setting up all the way in the back of the map and pray they just never break when the combined Italian might comes crashing down on them. Also, the Italians can set up in the stream without being CX'ed, giving them a LOT more mobility than one might expect.	Jobbo_Fett

Elephants Unleashed	FNF game that was my second playing of this scenario within six months. First time I was the Germans but this time I was allotted the Russians. Paul sent two AFVs with riders into the orchard to the west of the main buildings with the intention of attacking them from both sides. One squad failed its bailing out MC and the attack never really got going. I managed to run a T 34 into the walled enclosure behind the buildings from where it took out two German tanks before turning its turret to protect the buildings. By Turn 4 the Germans only had one AFV with functioning MA and Paul decided to call it a day at this point. I definitely had the better of the dice in this one. (VASL Log)	Dougban

Bout of the Century	I hate to say it...this was not a fun scenario. I greatly dislike variable OB...there's no way you can properly playtest variable OB and then too many fortifications in to tight a battlespace combined with a CVP cap that is too low for this kind game. DASL allows for Hand to Hand and the Germans are simply too strong for 6 Morale Americans (half the squads) to unseat from 6 Fortified Locations...seriously...I hit the CVP cap as the Americans the end of Turn 2. My dice were awful...and the Germans were smacking me around with ease.	grumblejones

I did my usual mistake and formed a too ambitious plan as the attacker. The dice however weren't a party to the plan and acted against the initial attack and the following attempts to reset. Tanks in the Street	Used this to learn the air support rules. We also learned that the American's face some difficult choices at set up: keep your forces combined and risk the Germans setting up in your midst and ravaging your forces on turns 1 and 2 or; spreading into a few groups and letting only a portion of your forces get ravaged on turns 1 and 2. If you choose the first option and the Germans don't set up in your midst, you should be ok. If you choose the second option, you might be ok regardless of German choices. Sadly, Phil chose option 1, I set up in his midst and just absolutely ravaged him. We had the Air Support show up on Turn 3 to end the rout and learn the Air Support rules. Basically, we agreed if the American's can keep a decent amount of force alive until the FB's show up, and perhaps join some forces, they could win. We'd both play again.	ubertripp

Centauro on a Flank	Friday Night Fight - Italians approached cautiously and come the end of their turn 6 it looked hard to get another 5 buildings to win although both Yugoslavian ATG were out of action. Turn 6 for the Allies and the west flank collapses as a squad adjusts its position, three buildings are now available. Italian turn 7 the M13/40 platoon and remaining L3/35 are able to freeze three positions allowing all three to be approached. One breaks to a demo charge the other two fall in cc, Italian win. Germans swarmed through and then the French Armored Car with the 8-1 Armor Leader MALF'd his MA and then in French Turn 1 Rally was RECALLED. Germans were in command and that was game. Pynda Avenged	The Italian MRT and MMG had some good early shots slowed the Greeks down. They tried bringing their main force from the north and were bogged down too much. A mid game rush produced even worse results. The Italians were able to pull out a victory.	dmareske

Defiance on Hill 30	American mortar was totally ineffective and I struggled to prevent the Germans gaining a toehold in the woods. A lucky sniper held up some Germans for a turn or so. Pushed out of all but one building but reos came on turn four which saved the day. Had some lucky die rolls that managed to save me from disaster. Held on for a draw in the CVP score.	Nicho11
It's a Battlefield	Canadian AT guns got two tanks early, but then one malf'ed and another was taking out by close combat. Once the Germans got into the buildings, they overpowered the Canadians with their FP and numerous leaders. Felt somewhat imbalanced against the Canadians.	keivn h

Hill 621	The Germans ran for the hill and tried to set up a reverse slope defense with some tanks up on the hill. The Russians were able to catch enough of the fleeing Army Group Centre to cause chaos and with not much to slow them down, the Russians were able to swarm the hill with infantry. Scouts Out	Used US balance but Germans had extra HS south of river. Interesting situation as US has tremendous firepower but are fragile. Was able to smoke HMG and get to river. On turn 3 the US moved to cross and the German HMG broke on a FL shot. It repaired next turn but the loss in FP enabled the US to cross the river T3 and get into several hill hexes T4. Might Makes Right	Played this one very aggressively as the Norwegians, as the CVP limit is very low when you take into account all of the open ground around. A well-placed MMG with the 9-2 can absolutely devastate the attacker as the Alpine Hills can create interesting blind spots that can't be attacked by the Germans at the distances they'd like. Special shout out goes to the Norwegian Squad that found itself in Melee after being ambushed, pinned, and attacked by an 8-1 + Squad and got hit with a wonderful boxcars. He then drew attention for 3 turns, and was helped by a sniper killing the leader he was stuck with. Further reinforcements never managed to clear him and other minor losses added up to a loss. Black Day in Hatten	The German crew went down to a rogue sniper in game. The gun covered the two VC locations in the back. After failing to rally twice, the crew rolled 12 on his third attempt. Without that critical asset, the American TD proved too much and prevailed.	Larry

The Publications page has had a minor face-lift and I've amended the scenario recommendations to exclude scenarios recommended that have the same name as scenarios you've already played before.

There's some updates to the scenario pages and the "My Page" that help find fun scenarios to play, based on other player's recommendations.

On the scenario page, you can see other scenarios that have been rated highly, based upon user ratings who have rated the initial scenario highly. (It's all a bit complex but it does try to quell the problem of good, popular scenarios outranking lesser played scenarios that might have a higher correlation).

On your "My Page" I've updated the games played and the publications owned tables to be a little more useful, and made an effort to speed up the rendering of the page, too. There's also a scenario recommender on there that takes into account scenarios that you have rated highly, and the input of other players - and checking that you haven't already played that scenario before (no promises on scenarios that have been released multiple times though, currently!)
