Breaching the Devil's PlaygroundGood scenario. Dennis did a good job with his fortifications to funnel me into kill zones. In the end, I had 9 points but only 1 GO squad in the victory area. One squad went Berserk, a couple others broke with low odd fire attacks. Close game. RJenulis

The Go DevilsA big part of this scenario is the US M36s vs. the JgPz 5s. The M36s need APCR to have a chance against the JgPzs. David didn't get any APCR, despite the Elite SSR.

I was able to quickly whittle down the armor and start focusing on the infantry.
At that point, things started to get very challenging for the Americans, losing combat assets at no loss to the Germans. The Germans can strike at many buildings and only need one for the win.

If the Germans can't win that AFV vs. AFV battle, however, I can't see how they can overcome the American firepower.

The Wolves' Last Tooth Danno
The Wolves' Last ToothWell...as the Greeks I setup poorly on Board 47...because I mistakenly believed that the Italians could enter on the entire north edge. Yeah...screwed that up and that was enough to really kill my chances in this unbalanced scenario....where the Greeks should win. But not me...I made it a challenging game as Dan Schwerpunkt on 41 against 3 squads on the hill mass. I held him until Turn 6 - but Dan was able to exit the 7 EVP through the frozen marsh and pond for the win. Fun scenario despite my tactical gaff. grumblejones
Running Into Walther Bongiovanni
Cpl. AnzacIan gave me the balance as he wanted to play with the Japanese.
The balance provided me with a mortar. I was able to successfully lay smoke which allowed me to cross the open ground with only one unit DM.
Once across I had too much fire power and was able to edge myself forward towards the victory condition hexes.
Game came down to the last Close Combat roll which I won to secure control of the necessary victory hexes.
Without the smoke I suspect Ian’s machine guns would have shredded me trying to cross the open ground.		 alexashton@vinecc.org
What's Up Yours? fdapra
Batty-PWell gambled my British setup for germ push from west - but the main attack was from southeast instead. Managed to hang on until turn 5 but it was not enough. Did not plan the use of OP tank properly. asloser
Pursuing KobayashiVery close at the end. In the end I was able to collect 13 casualties victory points. David total points at end of turn 6 was 12 so he conceaded.
I rolled multiple ROF with my mortar which did a surprising amount of damage to the Japanese.

Wons EnoughThe Germans must secure a road surrounded by hostile Dutch troops. It's an enjoyable scenario with lots of possibilities, even if we both think it might be a tad pro-Dutch. My Dutech HIPs tried to take the Germans by surprise but failed miserably and were quickly overwhelmed. My defenders had very poor shots and broke at the slightest noise. The Germans advanced with method through encirclement and made tons of prisoners.” Against the odds, the Dutch were able to shoot two panzers in quick succession with their MG. But this brief glimmer of hope disappeared quickly and the last defenders were overwhelmed by German efficiency. lt_steiner
Hill 27 Danno
Hill 27Japanese had hot dice, which allowed them to smoke both MMG positions and one mortar position. On Turn 2 the Japanese charged up the hill and got into CC with a couple locations after breaking the American left flank. The Japanese lost 5 .5 squads and the Americans lost 8.5 squads. The Japanese won immediately at the end of Turn 3. grumblejones
Brush OffOn the first turn I moved a squad and leader next to Dave’s HIP partizans. Dave defensive fired at me 2FP -2 and rolled double one and eliminated both units.
In the second turn a hand to hand combat resulted in the elimination of a squad and leader on each side. This crucially gave me the 4 CVPs to enable me to exit on the Western edge of the board.
On turn two Dave moved into my hex in the advanced phase to set up a close combat. He won the ambush roll but rolled 12 at three to one. This allowed me to withdraw from the close combat.
In the subsequent turn I was able to exit 5 points of units off board that counted double and gave me the win.
It really felt like I had picked Dave’s pocket because had he won the CC I would have had insufficient units to exit the board.

Shanghai in FlamesThe IJA Banzai failed coming down 20B3-B4-B5, add to that two IJA wounded leaders, and the GMD factory was still intact. The IJA pulled back in the top of the fourth to fight another day. I think the GMD should fortify one, maybe two, roadside factory hexes as this would block entry during a Banzai if the GMD had one or more unpinned GO units therein. I put my forts in the bottom, SW corner of the factory. Great game, great opponent. EJ1

Kempf at MelikhovoInfantry flushed out the HIP AT Gun allowing AFV to flank around behind the defenders. Kydder
Villy Muss Fallen! WestMost French units were in the village with a picket in orchard near the grain to slow down attack thrust and fall back. Also, a small contingent in woods north of village. The expected smoke OBA provided cover for the northern attack from the on-board setup units. By end of turn 2, Germans suffered 2.5 squads eliminated plus a couple broken squads. Turn 3 saw good French dice and very poor German ones. As a result, ~four more squads and two leaders were broken. With this setback, meeting the VCs would be very difficult with a fully intact French defense. The Germans called off the attack. This has all the earmarks of a great tournament scenario, but the dice on both sides were very favorable to the French. If the dice evened out, no doubt this would have been very close. I would recommend giving it a play.

Haugen's HeroesJapanese came from all sides to pin down the Americans and eventually cut some route paths forcing the broken units to be eliminated, which is what swung the game into the Japanese favor. dmareske

Farmyard AffraySo I watched the British lose this one twice in a row. It's a tough ask for the British and the unnecessary Orchard Overlays make it even harder for them. Maybe the balance should be...get rid of the overlays. grumblejones
Textbook AttackAn unfortunate French setup and exceedingly free lines of sight from the German guns allowed for early and easy control of the battlefield by the attackers. Lucky hits and punishing rates of fire allowed the Germans to eliminate or break units and open the way for fast movement across the open ground.

Multiple critical hits and a blaze started in a fortified building were the cherry on top of an already highlight worthy performance where the German OBA never failed, only 1 infantry gun ever broke down, and nothing was in place to prevent the StuGs from harassing the defenders ad nauseum, Definitely a scenario that needs some modification to give the French side something to do. A Bitter Day atomic
Bite of the BassottoGRENADIER 2025 - Round 5

Alas, the opening moves of the New Zealanders caught me on the wrong foot and compromised the position of my Bassotto with its HIP 238+BAZ escort. The former had to abandon its position and its attack opportunity on the main enemy stack in a bore-sighted position in an attempt to escape and survive (which it somehow contrived to do...), the latter was eliminated. This greatly reduced the danger for the Allied AFV (of which the Bassotto still got one) and opened the way into the village.

After that, the Germans where beaten about and had lost 10 out of 13 buildings by the end of Allied Turn 3. Even with the pending arrival of the German reinforcements the recapture of 4 of these buildings seemed nothing but a fantasy given the allied disposition, and with time drawing near the end, I conceded. 		von Marwitz
The Bavent RecceCanadians are hard-pressed in this one to search the battlefield effectively. Dan's Heroes were unsuccessful in their initial movements and were KIA'd. The Canadian 9-1 broke and his squad would then break. The Germans managed to fend off the Canadians during the final turn 5 rush. The Canadians would have 1 VP at game end. grumblejones

Stopped ColdOkay play on my Finnish side. Made a couple mistakes and didn't roll well (e.g., my carefully tossed DC on an adjacent Russian AFV was poorly placed and landed back in my stack's lap, breaking the stack). We misplayed the Russian HW as we allowed the Russians to fan out beyond their hex-range constraints (thanks to JB's Journal article to help us out). In the future, I think I'll not use belts of mines; instead, I'll spread them around, at choke points, etc. Fun game and great to learn from yet another ASL sensei. EJ1

Gotterdammerung!Very fun scenario. Unique situation and be sure to read the VC carefully. Once you understand, it makes for a very interesting and challenging scenario. Dan's Germans played it perfectly. I lost three tanks in knocking out the Jagdtiger and two more lost to the MKIV's. The Germans lost one MKIV and then destroyed the other 4 on the victory locations. Dan successfully exited three of the crews on Turn 4. One crew was KIA'd by Russian tanks on the 2 level hill. Very enjoyable scenario and very sublime design. Recommend playing it! grumblejones

I subscribe to what has been said before:
This a very interesting puzzle of dynamic force allocation and VC hexes that both sides want.

The following approach of my opponent worked quite well for him:
Ignore the initial buildings the Germans possess (and yield those 15 VP). Instead concentrate on the center while despatching a token force just large enough to keep the Germans from not leaving their initial buildings. This will give the Free French more power in the center and they can shift it more quickly depending on whether the Germans enter more to the middle or more to the flank.

I managed to get a large force into the flank of the Free French, but in Turn 3, my attack briefly stalled. This was just long enough to bring in Free French reinforcements to plug the most imminent gap and thus enough to keep my attack from gaining momentum again. After that, It was not difficult for the Free French to build a "wall of bodies" to prevent the Germans from getting at one of the valuable 2VP/Game Turn building.		 von Marwitz

Again great playing of this very good scenario. Lots of fun and drama. The Russian needs to pass their PMC until they manage to get across the Stream somewhere. Afterwards, they will dish out and it's up to the Finns to hang on just long enough.

Likely somewhat pro Finnish. If the Russians take a hard beating crossing a bridge or are delayed long enough, it might be an uphill battle for them.

Convente Beato SanteGerman sniper was the true king of battle. He would KIA all three British leaders and casualty reduce one squad. The Canadian sniper would recall the German Flak Panzer. The German 75L would knock out two Churchills and a Panzerfaust would knock out the third Churchill. The British would successfully take one end of the hill, but were out of men to take the other side and so the Germans had the victory. grumblejones

Panzerpioniere!In this playing the American defender opted to spread out and evenly defend much of the map. The Germans countered by cutting off the eastern third of the American defense, and attacking primarily up the middle. By mid-game nearly all the American armor had burned or been wrecked. The US infantry took few KIAs, but w/o armor support could not hold the VP locations.. A2ASLer
Expelled!The Germans did a pincher attack, heavy on the outsides and one kill stack up the middle. The forces on the right flank did the best in eliminating the resistance and taking the building while holding off the forces from the middle trying to reinforce the building. A couple of critical hits swung the pendulum in favor of the Germans. Germans lost two STUGs but had the 105 set up to pound on the victory building. We called the game in turn 8. dmareske
11th Company Counterattack2025 West Coast Rumble, Round 1. David Played well and the 5 Hits with the tanks in 5 shots taken doesn't hurt. I was not rolling well at all. My setup didn't take into account full ramifications of the EmRR and ElRR. Good experience however. asevenson

Satisfaction and ConfidenceThe Germans spread out in a line, with MMC covering every potential easy path for the Russian AFVs so they could be within PF range. The gun was hidden to the west and never came out of HIP, as the Russians did not head that way. The Russian approach was spread out to avoid the Germans forming up on them at one spot, but this proved to be their undoing. Too much time was wasted attempting to break the line in multiple points and when that stalled, a concentrated Russian push in the middle almost made it but the Germans had adjusted to box in the Russian AFVs, taking out 3 of the 4 and eliminating their ability to meet the VP in time. Cornwalls' Rum RationTough little fight. British MALF'd and then 6'd the gun in Rally on the one and only shot This of course messed up the scenario defense for the British. The Germans schwerpunkted board 42 and went after the 6 locations on that board. The German armor would knock out the Carrier and the two Shermans without a loss. One STUG was shocked, but managed to come back. The German infantry took some tough hits, but managed to take 6 building hexes in the final movement phase for the win. grumblejones

Frogs in the PocketPTO-Mini GRENADIER 2025.

This was one of my first PTO scenarios many years ago so I was ready to replay it.

Basically, it has interesting OoBs and a lot of "PTO-feel" and "traps" which could make it a great scenario.

On the other hand, it is a "bug hunt" in which successfully hiding two squads or a squad and a -1 Leader (i.e. 4 VP) will make you lose even if you eliminate the entire rest of the remaining OoB. Furthermore, an adept player will concentrate his units in as far away corner as possible and form a "wall of bodies" there. In doing so, chances are very high that any attempts of the ANZAC will be doomed to meet the objectives, especially blocking the path to the valuable Pillboxes this way.

The first glance at my opponent's setup told me that this was exactly what he did. With the expected outcome of a clear ANZAC loss.		 von Marwitz

"They're Here! Reverse!"This scenario was literally over by the end of the first British Prep Fire Phase. The Brits had a ROF streak that wiped out about 75% of my tanks. I failed my personal MC and flew the white flag of surrender. Cuddles McDeath
Raff's DilemmaAfter getting blown-out in the SM03, I made a comeback with this one coming down to the last CC rolls, I won an ambush and withdrew for the win. Excellent game. Managed to kill, recall or stun every US Vehicle. On to SM05, SGT Mac

Grab and GoVery interesting scenario with different options for both sides. As the German defender, I set up strong in thee centre, placed all my dummy counters plus a couple of half squads on the right flank and the mortar on the left flank behind woods with a spotter half squad entrenched in front of it. I wanted to deter a flank attack and I got my wish when Eric sent his whole force up the centre with a view to capturing buildings. Things started well for the attackers as the forward defenders where overwhelmed. The Russians captured two victory building to get a head start with 6 VPs. After this however the defence stiffened and a series of low rolls resulted in casualties for the attack which started to bog down. When the German HMG halftrack managed to survived two ATR shots and exit, I was ahead on points. The mortar halftrack was less fortunate and was immobilized. At game end, the Russians had to charge for the exits with the few units that could reach them. A 9-2 leader and accompanying stack waltzed across open ground to make it to safety but that was not enough when the German 9-2 led a half squad off the board to seal the win on the final turn. Highly recommend this one. Would be happy to play either side. Dougban
Grab and Go Bongiovanni
TotensonntagI used a German set-up found on-line. The MMG was in the P5 woods-mass and the lmg layed down fire lanes when they could. The Poles concentrated on the east flank, but pushed forward in center as well. I rarely blame the dice, as I think a good player can still work around that., but in a small scenario like this it can be too much. I think every Polish squad broke at least once. They rallied and still made a run for it, but the 4's and 5's rolled across the board by the Germans on all of their attacks on turn 6 pretty much sealed the deal, with only 3 German squads eliminated. It's About TimeThe British forces started up close against the Germans and immediately took the battle to them. The British were able to squeeze the German in Le Port and had eliminated the Germans from Le Port by the end of Turn 5. A lucky shot from a captured MMG broke the squad in the Chateau and opened the flood gate for the pour through slunts
It's About TimeI was able to cause plenty of British casualties but not enough to stem the avalanche. Conceded after losing all 3 Pz IV's in a single turn. With no armour killers left (except PF's) and only 4 live squads, it was time to concede. aiabx
Claws of the SparrowA training game for my opponent, who is bringing his PTO play up to speed. Our previous session saw a glorious multi-hex Banzai followed by multiple HtH CC in which nearly everyone died, but the last session was a dicefest in which I shot his troops to pieces for the loss of a crew to a boxcars MC. Nevertheless, an enjoyable game. Gamer72

Fighting BackGermans set up the machine guns in upper floor locations across board 22. The Poles attacked on the German right. The Germans forgot about the Polish reinforcements entering behind their front line, so immediately fell back on the left flank and fought a controlled fighting withdrawal on the right and center, to great effect. In the end the Polish tanks were destroyed or in hiding, while almost all the Polish leaders were lost, so the attack petered out in the face of a solid German line, just in front of the victory buildings. De Zwarte DuivelsBoth of us had good and bad luck here. As the Dutch, my mortar broke down on its first shot, and one of my armoured cars was set ablaze by a lucky ATR shot. On the other hand, the Germans lost their heroic leader early to an unlucky wound, and I created a hero to help battle for the large building. I also used my HMG and 9-2 leader to prevent the Germans crossing the western bridge, and the German HMG on that side of the board never really got into the action.
In the end it was Dutch weight of numbers that swung it, as I managed to cause German casualties and take enough of the building to prevent them gaining enough VP to match my total (final score was Dutch 13, Germans 11)		 Andy_Bagley

The Encircled Productions guys have updated their pack to include errata to fix some issues with some scenarios (most of the errata is already on the site but I'm told there's a couple of small extra bits that are fixed, too).
