Overview:
Just after nightfall, the men of Rodimstev's 13th Guards Division began ferrying across the Volga to reinforce the 62nd Army in the downtown area. Led by Yelin's 42nd Regiment, the guardsmen splashed ashore, heavily armed with mortars, machine guns and anti-tank weapons, their artillery having been left on the east bank to provide fire support from their safer positions. Near the Army H.Q., General Chuikov spotted a young lieutenant and asked him where his men were; the officer was Lt. Anton Dragan, commander of the 1st Company, 1st Battalion. Chuikov ordered him to take his men and “clear out the main railway station. . .” Dragan gathered his company, and heavily laden with grenades and machine guns, they disappeared into the darkness.Attacker: German (Elements of Infanterie Regiment 194 and Pionier Batallion 171 and StuG Abteilung 244)
