Overview:
The Axis bridgehead in Tunisia was on the verge of collapse. In order to support the final Allied offensive, the French XIX Corps was ordered to attack the Afrika Korps northwest of Ont-du-Fahs. Codenamed “Operation Strike”, the plan of attack called for a breakthrough to envelope Djebel Zaghouan, after which the French Armored Group supported by the Division d’Oran, was to turn east and thrust deep behind enemy lines, grabbing the town of St. Marie du Zit and cutting off the Axis retreat. . .Attacker: American/Free French (1re Compagnie du I/2 ͤ Régiment de Tirailleurs Algériens and VII Escadron du 12 ͤ Régiment and I Escadron du 5 ͤ Régiment de Chasseurs d'Afrique with attached US Armor, and 2re Compagnie du I/2 ͤ Régiment de Tirailleurs Algeria)
