Overview:
Company, 2% Lancashire Fusiliers was attacking to seize Sinagoga. Advancing toward the town, the British ran into heavy German machine gun and mortar fire. Each farm and building was so well defended that flame- throwers were needed t o clear out the Germans. The advancing infantry requested tank support. Following behind the infantry, the B Squadron, 17"/21" Lancers' Sherman tanks came under deadly German 88mm and self-propelled gun fire. This forced the supporting British armor t o detour around the flanks, preventing them from escorting the infantry into Sinagoga proper. C Company seized a portion of Sinagoga, but sustained nearly fifty per- cent casualties in the process.Attacker: British (C Company, 2nd Lancashire Fusiliers, 11th Infantry Brigade, 78th Infantry Division and B Squadron, 17th/21st Lancers, 26th Armoured Brigade, 6th Armoured Division)
