Overview:

In an attempt to assault Bastogne from the east, the 26th Volksgrenadier Division infiltrated along the Bourcy-Bastogne rail line through a forested area known as the Bois Jacques (Jack’s Woods). This area marked the boundary between the US 501st and 506th PIRs, and as such was only lightly defended. Given the close proximity to Bastogne, the infiltrators had to be pushed out of the area before they could be reinforced via the rail line.

2024-12-29(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM American winI got the US in this quick infantry battle. Pine woods and foxhole firelanes [SSR 4] create great Ardennes 'atmosphere.' The German mortar OBA is a huge factor, and with 6 turns, the paratroopers can't dawdle. My plan was pure infantry assault: close fast and blast away! I aimed for the middle of the exit hexrow around the 34O1 marsh. Both US heroes died quickly but once I tied up the occupants of foxholes 51R1 and 34P3 in CC, getting two squads and a leader off was easy. (Both sides generated another hero during play.) Jim: I placed two MGs in foxholes to enfilade the 8-hex US exit zone and the OBA 7-0 w/Phone to cover the 34K2 clearing. The other foxholes were placed to slow Vic down. Loses were light on both sides for three turns, but losing an early CC in 34M1 cost me the observer and a 467 and cleared a path to the last hexrow. This one boils down breaking US 747s and keeping them under DM. I didn't break enough before US fire broke all but one 467. The paratroopers took five foxholes in CC, and Vic got the win with a turn to spare. The forest 'fog of war' is fun, but this one definitely favors the US.
2024-07-01(D) M T vs V.K. German winGerman OBA worked really well on the center and their two MG nest defense was effective. Still, The Americans almost managed to slip through a 2 x MMC + Leader stack on the western flank, stopped only in the nick of time by MG fire. I would describe it as a close run thing.

I found the scenario quite enjoyable. SSR4 really transforms the battlefield in a novel way, allowing some interesting gameplay possibilities. Thumbs up from me!
2020-04-25(A) Eric Topp vs Steve Bond American winGerman leader could not get his OBA on target. US did an end-around to take the T4 hill. German MG FP broke most of the US units but the remaining Heroes and HS counter-attacked to K/break the defenders next to the board edge.
2019-12-14(A) Raoul Duke vs JB American winAmerican paratroopers fighting their way through the woods near Foy, Belgium. Germans have some interesting SSRs that presage the PFZ rules by four years. German observers were very out of place, and OBA utterly ineffective. This allowed the Americans to locally overwhelm the defense, turn a flank, then exit for the win.
2018-07-06(A) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque German winOBA decimated the Americans on two occasions. That was enough.
