Overview:

The Allied advance through the city of Mandalay continued with the sweep of the southern sections of the city. During the battles for Mandalay, the Allies took caution not to needlessly destroy or damage the many pagodas of the city. However, on one occasion, the Japanese decided to center their defense on a large pagoda. It was up to the Royal Berkshire Regiment to clear this obstacle. They had the assistance of armor for the assault.
