Overview:
As the Romanian and Italian armies around Stalingrad were disintegrating from Operation Uranus, Operation Saturn had hot the Hungarian 2nd Army hard. Two full divisions had almost been annihilated and the whole army was no the verge of collapse. The one chance for salvation lay with the 1st Armoured Field Division which was held in reserve as part of "Group Kramer". Led by the much decorated cavalry officer Lajos Veress, the division had some punch with 130 tanks. Upon receiving the "GO!" order from OKW, the Hungarians flung themselves at the massive Russian tank-heavy attack pouring across the Don river.Attacker: Russian (Elements 33rd Tank Brigade, 40th Tank Corps)
