Overview:

Hoping that one last great push might be enough to finally shatter all organized resistance in the city, German assault troops prepared for a final onslaught. In the meantime, fresh Pioniere battalions specially trained in urban warfare were flown in, to be supported by a dozen experimental assault guns boasting a 150mm gun. Each frontline German division formed a Sturmkompanie comprised of 150 select men heavily-laden with automatic weapons. The Russians, discerning the Germans’ intentions, busily braced for the expected encounter, turning every pile of rubble and blasted building they still held into a formidable fortress. On 11 November, daybreak came early at 0300 hours as a heavy fusillade of German artillery shells lit up the night, to open the final bid to capture Stalingrad.- - - - -It's big. Possibly the biggest single scenario in the system. Initially 80 or so Russian squads hold off around a similar number of German elite and first line squads. There's OBA, trenches, pillboxes over the entire RB Map. Oh and 21 turns for the Germans to control a whole host of buildings and a couple of factories.
Attacker: German (Gruppe Schwerin, Infanterie-Division 94 and 389 and Pionier-Bataillone 45 and 162/Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 244 and 245/Panzerpionier-Bataillon 50/Panzer-Regiment 36)
Defender: Russian (138th and 95th Rifle Divisions/1053rd Rifle Regiment, 300th Rifle Division/Reserves of the 62nd Army/179th Engineer Company)

2023-11-12(A) Todd Cox vs German winGermans win end of turn 20. Russians are done. No way to take back 2 buildings. The big factory lasted with a Russian presence until turn 19. The sight lines in this scenario are pretty incredible. Germans didn't place their anti-take guns anywhere useful except to take out the Russian flame tank. Really seemed to be going the Russians way fora quite a while. German flame throwers where being eliminated over and over. Hard to use the German tanks without getting close, the the Molitov Projectors destroyed several. In the end the German assault engineers and flamethrowers were tough to resist. Should have gone with phones! Have never had a scenario where so much of the OBA was down due to radio failures and contact failure.

I didn't use sewer movement. Im sure that would have benefited the Russians but there was already so much going on...fortified buildings, fortified cellars, trenches, pill boxes. And the debris fields are absolutely brutal to movement. The 150 self propelled guns. Were mostly ineffectual but turned in a handful of brutal critical hits. I don't think the StuGs hit a single target. With the close ranges needed here, they're also incredibly vulnerable to CC given they have no MG.

A really enjoyable scenario.
