Overview:

Operation CHARNOOD called for the 59th Division to join I Corps at the centre of the line between the 3rd Canadian Division and 3rd British Division. With all three divisions attacking simultaneously, assisted by massive artillery and naval support fire, the defenders, in theory, would be overwhelmed. It would be the first battle for the 59th Division. Phase II would start at 07:30 hours. This phase involved an attack by 197 Brigade on the right, with two battalions up: 1/7 Royal Warwickshire to capture St. Contest and 2/5 Lancashire Fusiliers to capture Malon; and an attack by 176 Brigade on the left with 7 Royal Norfolk to capture Epron. All of these settlements were being held by the 25.SS-Panzergrenadierregiment of the 12.SS-Panzerdivision "Hitlerjugend".
Attacker: British (Elements 1/7th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 59th (Staffordshire) Infantry Division)
Defender: German (SS) (Elements II./25.SS-Panzergrenadierregiment, 12.SS-Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend")

2022-01-01(D) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best German (SS) winFirst game of the year against my good friend Dan. Came down to the last CC which the Germans needed to win an ongoing Melee, which they did. The Brits got lots of SMOKE but their Turn 2 force fell apart coming into the village, but a late hero creation for the Brits turned the tables on the Germans.
