Overview:

After the city of Antwerp was finally liberated on the 4th of September 1944, Field Marshall Mongomery's next plans, were to push further north towards the Netherlands, gaining benefit out of the gap between the German 7th and 15th Armies. For a fast approach into the Reich, intact bridges over the Rhine were crucial. Montgomery's staff chose Arnhem as a crossing point, and plans for a combined operation consisting of airborne and land forces were made. While the airborne part needed some preparation time, the land force, XXX Corps, was still in full swing and so British units moved ahead through Belgium towards Eindhoven, to get the most out of the momentum. After a short break for 24 hours on 6th of September, XXX Corps resumed its advance. From that point on, the situation changed drastically.

2022-02-18(D) Dave Mareske vs Jim Bishop German winMy defense was aided by some good dice rolls at critical times to slow down the British advance. The Brits also malfed two main armaments, including the Challenger, which did not help them. The Brits did kill the JgPz in CC which may have been the highlight of the British attack. We played pretty fast. Thanks for the game Jim.
2022-01-02(D) Vilis Pavulans vs Matias Dahlbäck British winPretty drawn back defence from the germans which seems to work very well in the beginning despite massive british smoking. Knocked out the challenger AFV early and got into good position with the TD. Then all german guns broke. As usual when there is one Gun, the first shot was boxcars and the british tanks could go around the left flank. All PF attempts failed or missed. Then the brits hit hard rolling low for a whole turn and broke the last remnants of german defence. Horrible feeling. Felt I had a good defence and tactics but this time I got a bit diced.
2021-12-03(A) Jonathan Kapleau vs Willmer, Charlie German win
2021-11-17(D) Andy Bagley vs Matt Ellis German winGreat scenario, with some different British tanks (rather than the usual Shermans) up against - or rather, trying to avoid - a Jagdpanther that is deadly if it hits its target. The British have a choice of VCs but basically have to penetrate into the German-defended village. Their attack started promisingly. with lots of smoke covering the infantry's advance. The the Jagdpanther came on and the German AT Gun revealed itself, knocking out a Cromwell in the process. The British now tried to shift their attack to the other flank, away from these two AT weapons, but got bogged down by infantry fire, the threat of PFs, and unsuccessful smoke mortar attempts. To make matters worse, the advance had left two German HS behind the British lines (one having used a successful ambush to sneak into the German rear. The Brits had to divert a couple of squads to cover this threat, otherwise routing could have been problematic. This left them with just too few squads to finish the job, and the Germans just hung on. Exciting stuff though.
2021-05-11(D) Rob MacGinley vs John Garlic British winBrits push up the centre with all the trick and did well!!
