Overview:

In July 1941 Mussolini sent the 62,000-strong CSIR (Italian Expeditionary Corps) to the Eastern Front. Its three divisions and attached troops linked up with the Wehrmacht in Romania, where the corps vehicular transport was pooled in order to completely motorize the 9th “Pasubio” Division. This unit, reinforced with corps artillery and motorcycle troops, was ordered to advance quickly to the Bug River, then turn south to cut off the Red Army crossing points. In one typical small-unit action during this period, elements of the division’s advance guard had to force a crossing of a small river in order to continue their advance.

2024-11-24(D) Seumas Hoskins vs Dean Russian winAn early Turn 1 sniper took out the only fording Italian SL and broke the entire stack with it before they even moved. Italians very quickly overran the Russian Bridge Patrol, but got bottlenecked in the peninsula and couldn't make an advance inland. The tank sat back keeping its LOS on that 17Y10 to help with VC. High dice on both sides, but ended with most Italians broken and conscript. By turn 6 it was clear Italians did not have enough to push the Russians off LOS of that road.

2022-01-29(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Italian winI sent a weaker force against the bridge and my best troops went with both the 9-1 and 8-1 to use the fords. They would never be able to get across the river and spent the whole game trying to pry Russians out of the R1 house. But my weaker bridge force managed to cross and capture the Russian MMG, which they then used to destroy the Russian Tank. The Russian Mortar took down many of my boys, but the Russian Commissar killed 2 full squads in Rally, but kept other squads in the game. It went to the final turn and the Italians were able to reduce the Russian firepower aimed at the victory location to 14 and an Italian win.
