Overview:

Since the defeat at El Alamein, the Axis forces in North Africa had been in full retreat. If the British 8th Army could be held at Wadi Akarit, other Axis forces could focus on the 1st Army to the west, defeat it and then make a similar blow to the 8th Army. Montgomery was well aware of the danger and assaulted as soon as his forces were ready.
Attacker: German (Panzergrenadier Regiment 361, 90 Leichte Afrika-Division)
Defender: British (King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles, 4th Indian Division)

2024-03-09(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best British win
2024-03-09(D) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins British win
2023-07-03(D) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger German winThis seems tough for the British to defend - or at least if there's a good way to defend I haven't found it. I opted for what was essentially a reverse-slope defence, to keep out of the way of the German 88L gun, OBA and 81mm mortar. Whilst this avoided early casualties, the downside was that the Germans reached the first ridge around turn 3, and then when my point-blank shots failed I had nowhere to run. Not helped by a German HS from the at-start group which resisted all shots against it, then spawned a hero that took out my 8-1 leader and a full squad with snakeyes in CC!
OBA was fickle for both sides, with the German's expiring early and mine consistently straying off target. My turn 4 reinforcements were too little too late, as the Germans had already reached the ridge by then. Meanwhile the two squads I had withdrawn to cover the victory hex LFT8S3 were both broken by the German sniper (why is the German SAN so high in this scenario?), which meant that the Germans could rush down the road through the gap between the hills, then circle round the back to capture the VC location from the south. I conceded on turn 5 when there was clearly no way of stopping them.
I'd be interested to see other AARs of this scenario. Is there a better way for the Brits?
