Overview:
Late in August the Germans had managed to grab two bridgeheads across the Lojnja River near Bolotina. The Soviet 19th Army counterattacked these positions, and the 38th Rifle Division retook 2 square kilometers of the bridgehead. The Russians then dug-in around a brush-covered wooded area.
